Update 17 Dec 2005With the vast improvements in the iPod over the past year (especially in its former Achilles heel, battery life), and the lack of any real leaps forward by iRiver, I have to say, the iHP-140 is looking more and more like a dinosaur.

Don't go by brand name alone. Iriver - makes nothing but devices that play back compressed music. And they know how to make them well. Their Ipod equivalents (Hard disk based players) also have very good reviews and I might get one myself one of thes
