Finally, I decided to buy an MP3 player as I was sick & tired of the noise on Chennnai roads...got this neat compact piece in Malaysia for almost the same INR :) Well, I knew my bet was always an iRiver (after consulting many friends), my search for this player began...tried over 3 shops and finally found in the 4th shop..wola!!
Here came the catch, I noticed the Sony network walkman, the creatives, samsung’s yepp, the Apple iPods and many more. Had to take a risk with the price & warranty part, finally settled for this as it came with Sennheiser earphones, whose output was good enough @ 50% (volume range 0-40).
It took a while to get accustomed with the player. Though its UI is not as cool as an ipod, I went for this since it had FM, voice rec, FM record and direct encoding in mp3 format...cool stuff in a small form factor that can be hung on your arm using the armband provided....wow!!
Sound quality: Oustanding, can blow your eardrums if heard @ peak volume, plenty of equaliser settings to choose from. Good bass and plays instrumental and rock music with ease, good clarity at peak volume.
Battery: Inserted their default AA battery, it ran for over 25 hours, with 75% battery power still remaining, atleast it didn't drain battery unlike the IPODs whose battery used to drain rather quickly within 8-10 hours.
Functionality: Joystick identical to the ones used in mobile phones, sometimes difficult to navigate to playlists.
Software (still backward): Its not direct plug & play, requires driver files to be installed, and then the player gets detected. Song transfer requires you to install the iRiver Mananger software. USB cable should have been disabled (u know what I mean).
I went for functionality and features, evethough premium is always paid for a good brand.
