I stayed in the University Guest House for a week, having a green garden and grass lawns as bellowed was writing the competitive exams. The atmosphere and environment was just so pleasant for a cool stay. Although I missed site visits, but I made it a point as I spend one of the best & memorable time my one year old, walking, running across and trying to catch the pet animals the whole day. As I used to play with him in around, the Watchmen of the guest house used to keep a close watch so that he doesn’t pick the leaves & flowers in the gardern or walk on the green lawn. However the kids doesn’t understand and they wish to play ..... I admired his happiness and laugh and running behind on hearing the voice of the watchman.
Many a times, we show disrespect to the role of watchman, be it in our own apartments or at guest house. We always feel that the job is menial, many a times we feel bad to speak and use singular words to them. We treat them as they are the only authorised persons to open and close the gates for our vehicles when we enter & leave. Very often we disrespect and human dignity as individual. We even fail to respect the age factor. I just started conversing with the watchmen by asking his name and where he stayed. But he was very polite in his behaviour. As I interrogated with him asking how long was he working in this role, I could feel the pain in his eyes. He said I was a Govt employee in State Corporation and I have been suspended last 12 years. He narrated that court case is still pending in the court and hence he is doing this job. I was shocked to know the reason for his suspension, He was suspended since he has not issued & collected 12rs from the passenger during an surprise inspection by the Inspector.
I remembered the Hamlet's often quoted “ To be or Not to Be?” is one of life’s ultimate existential questions. There are a lot of people struggling inorder to make a living or just to exist in the world. The pain the agony of these creatures get unnoticed. However for a celebrate the whole community get together to show their support.
Bottom-line
A huge cry in media on the lea-Mahesh on participation in Olympics, The battle of ego and upmenship is washed in public. What about these small timers, who are the only bread winners for their families ? Does someone remember their pain ?
