The Wake Up Call

Around half past nine in the evening on last Saturday, my daughter reminded me of something that I did some two decades ago, when she said, "papa, please wake me up at 7 AM tomorrow, as I have to watch Barbie's program on TV".

My daughter's school is at 8 AM and she is always reluctant to leave her bed when I wake her up everyday and this request from her was a surprise for me. I promised her that I'll do the needful, even though next day being Sunday I had decided to sleep till 8 AM..

After she slept, I thought of those days, when Indian cricket team visited Australia to play and the one day games use to start at 4 AM India time. I always use to ask my father to wake me up next morning by 03.45 AM so that I can watch the game from the beginning.

He was never late to pull me out of the bed, as I remember having watched all the games from the beginning.

Did I ever think before asking him to do so that he too need rest? And being a father he never bothered about his own needs as he tried his best to keep us happy.

The thought brought smile on my face as I looked at my daughter who was fast asleep in her own world. I set the alarm for 06.45 AM, before putting the lights off, after all I had an assignment given by my daughter.

My father never failed and it was my turn now.
