Well, the way Narendra Modi was projected and the fashion in which BJP went on to campaign their pre-election activities, it was clearly evident that they were leaving no stone unturned to knockout the hapless Congress party. It was crystal clear that BJP wanted to create an impression throughout the country that Narendra Modi is the right candidate for the position of Prime Minister & they have projected him as such.
Let us go back to the elections that took place in Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka, where Narendra Modi was the lead campaigner for BJP & we all know Congress made a clean sweep in these states. But the defeat in Karnataka & Himachal Pradesh was not being taken into consideration as BJP was dead sure that this time their victory was imminent and it was just a matter of time.
The elections took place in Mizoram, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Chhatisgarh & Rajasthan. Like all other states in the Eastern part of India was, Mizoram was again not discussed this time and the win was predicted as 4-0 in favour of BJP. But did it happen as it was predicted? Let us have a look.
Rajasthan – post agitations by the Gujjars, the fall of Congress was visible & BJP would have won with or without Narendra Modi. As expected BJP won with huge margin in Rajasthan.
Madhya Pradesh – the victory of BJP was expected and the result was no different as they won with another huge margin, making 2-0 in favour of BJP.
Chhatisgarh – this is where the fight was tough in the initial stages of the counting as out of 90 seats, both BJP & Congress were leading in 45 seats each. Though the final result again went in the favour of BJP, who won 49(54.45 percent) seats out of 90 and Congress ended the campaign with 39(43.34 percent) seats. If carefully calculated, BJP was fortunate to win by a narrow margin as the margin required to form the government is 51.11 percent of the total seats. So did the Modi wave failed to create an impact here?
In Mizoram, Congress made a clean sweep by winning 32 out of the 40 seats and BJP won ZERO seats. What kind of signal does this number gives?
Delhi – this can be called a rehearsal before the grand final for the post of Prime Minister. Congress would fail was imminent but they will fare so bad, no one would have expected. Not even their opponents because Congress managed to win only 8 seats out of 70 seats. Does that mean BJP made a clean sweep in the capital? No, in fact they received the biggest shock that might have shattered their confidence to some extent, because the debutant party AAP has won 28 seats. This is a clear sign that if the people of India have lost hopes on Congress, they do not have any faith on BJP either and the latter has won in other places because the people on India did not have any alternative like they had in Delhi. Can we say that was never a Modi wave, it was an anti-Congress wave for sure.
Have the people of the nation conveyed a message to all the political parties that they are ready for a change? Let the parties be under any kind of impression the final outcome can be shocking should there be an alternative besides Congress and BJP. It is also evident that there was no Modi wave, what we have seen was an anti-Congress wave and BJP just happened to be lucky to be there to take advantage in few states. And if the total outcome of the seven states mentioned above is to be taken into consideration, it would require a magic for BJP to become the ruling party in the election in 2014. As of now for BJP, ‘abhi Delhi door hai’.
