Everyday Is A Birthday
Birthdays are celebrated because they are considered to be a special time and period in the life of a person. Personally I like to wish my friends & relatives on their birthdays but generally I don’t like to attend birthday parties.
I remember as a young boy on one of my birthdays, my father questioned and denigrated the custom of celebrating birthdays. His argument was why celebrate when we are one year closer to our death. I have not seen my father celebrating his birthday. He used to say these beautiful lines on life, Zindgi Tu Hi Bata Kaise Tuje Piyar Karu, Teri Har Ek Subha Meri Umar Kam Kar Deti Hai.
Now years later, with the advent of social media my family members & friends know my birthday even if I want to keep my birthday quiet and not to celebrate, there’s no chance of me keeping myself away for the day, bemoaning the fact that I am one year nearer to death.
I love celebrating the little things but I don’t like celebrating my birthday. Since my birthday is simply the day I was born, I like to remind myself to look at each new day as the first day of the rest of my life.
We all expect our birthday to be a grand, joyous occasion, a day of celebration. I have seen some people really make a song and dance about their birthdays but they usually don’t know for what exactly they are celebrating their birthday. Some people celebrate their birthdays to mark another year of getting through life and surviving, instead, they should prefer to focus on the positive aspects of a birthday.
Birthday should be the perfect time for being grateful for what we have already experienced and achieved in the years to date. We should also remember that birthday is not just about one day celebration it’s also a time for reflecting on our life and reviewing our life. Our birthday is also a great time to review the legacy we are creating for the world through our life. Legacy does not have to big; it can even be our small acts of goodness which makes a positive difference to family, friends & society.
Finally if at all we want to celebrate our birthday then there is no better way to celebrate a birthday than to commit a special act of goodness. Let’s express the thanks for being born and alive. I always like to see the joy of birthdays does not have to be limited to annual celebrations. If we can celebrate each day like a birthday, happiness, success & peace can be something that we can experience every day, not just once a year.
