Arranged Marriages!

By: cutelavanya85 | Posted Jan 13, 2014 | General | 1701 Views

Today I wanna write about another experience of my own personal life that keeps on happening as and when I am on display to families or parents who have the so called well settled eligible guys to get married. It’s history when people used to just fix the ‘rishtas’ on the basis of being from a good khandaan and much respected one. That used to be the only criteria of making 2 people marry each other without even seeing or talking. The first encounter of the match used to be after they take the vows and are legally and culturally Husband n wife. My parents too got married with the same concept. They both from very respected families, parents met and decided that it would be a good match and bas, the shaadi was done.

In contrary to what used to be the one and only way of marriages. Today if you’re single(do not have a boyfriend who you can talk to your parents about) and it is your time to get settled in life with a partner who your family chooses for then you’re probably going to face some really stupid to do things. The guys family comes to your house with lot of grace and attitude that clearly defines how proud they are because they have a SON. Reality check for them: Even my dad n mom are equally proud to have daughter who has agreed to say yes to anyone who they think is correct for her, the difference is in the attitude. We don’t need to show it and you find it pretty high class in showing it off.

They come, they see, they ask you questions and then they become so friendly that dad thinks they are the best family in the world. They leave us guessing whether it would be a yes or a No. We wait n wait n wait and they just disappear like nothing happened.

That’s part of a routine to now in my life and I have learnt a lot through these meetings. Never expect people to be understanding that they have some responsibility that they need to inform about the decisions taken. It is perfectly fine if you say no. But please, say something. Don’t just disappear . Maybe some day we would find that family, who will say a yes and who I would get settled in. Till then, thank you papa for being supportive and letting me decide now which would be the lucky one’s to meet me bcoz I am not on display to dumb anymore.
