Yes I have that itch. To rant again. On a National issue! And thanks to Anna Uncle! And thanks to this circus that this going on at Ram Lila and the Junta's ambition fuelled by the Media that cashes in on these events on popular perception and on whipping Emotions which have made debates and important ones such as these bereft of any intelligence and rational. The entire issue is diluted to "Do you support the fight against corruption - SMS Yes or No to a number where the Media company and the telecom operator make a lot of money" I mean even basic logic has been thrown out of the window.
Full support to Anna to express his views. But no support to his Ludicrous demand of telling the govt. my way or the highway. I actually don’t have a problem with that as well. He is entitled to do so. I have a problem with the lady in the image and Uncle Hippie in the background.
This individual would have come post 26/11 to light candles and the flame is doused by the time elections arrive. Aunty wants Jan Lok Bill? Does she know what it is? Does she know that maybe existing regulations suffice in ensuring the corrupt are convicted? And the problem with corruption is more to do with evidence and not so much with the time frame by when the case needs to be closed? Does Aunty and the millions of "Jokers" (sorry to use such a strong word) know that the Lok Pal bill would be a Investigating agency of supposedly “Eminent” individuals who are expected to investigate cases of corruption mind you and not stopping them. What on earth makes her believe that this new institution would be better in any existing one? And that they wouldn’t be corrupt or the more important point - Effective? Aunty forgot to use RTI to stop corruption.. Aunty forgot Aruna Roy and her methods to bring about RTI. But Aunty and Mr. Morgan Stanley Banker knows more about Katrina Jhatka's than Aruna. So much for a Popular voice!
The problem with the Anna movement is not the ignorance on part of the individuals who support him. We all know that corruption needs to stop. The solution is in the method being applied. And may the Lord bless those that another law would stop corruption. I mean the Lord might forgive individuals who have different means. But the so called Democratic representatives of the Team Anna movement have turned Deaf leave along have an intelligent logical discussion on the matter. Sorry Anna – But you have in the process of your honest fight brought about several Geroge Bushes where there is no room for dissent in any discourse.
And we would have to relocate to the Moon if you believe that corruption needs to be stopped. No Govt machinery on this planet would claim to not be so.
And how many of us suffer from Corruption today? We hardly deal with the state? The Morgan Stanely Banker happily buys his flat in black, evades his tax by putting in various Tax Savings schemes. Mr. Morgan Stanely banker flies to Bangkok because his company launched a contest to incentivize the individual with the highest sales i.e. how much money he brought to the company v/s how much money his customers have made. That is not corruption – That is called incentive! SO you're expected to be a politicians just like an Army solider without aspirations of sending your kids to the U.S. which would cost a Bomb? No such pleasures and the right to experience to be reserved because just like you the politicians are expected to servce the nation in a manner closely related to the way you work. Right?
And instead of having people investigated, why don’t solve the basic problem of all of us having to deal with the state? This is where corruption starts. I am not sure how many have suffered when D Raja sold spectrum at low rates. Not many know what is spectrum and for years ignores something that was reported. All of us have enjoyed the lowest Tariff’s across the world and today I don’t wait hours for the phone – Because I don’t deal with govt always for it.
Today I file my taxes Online – One measure which has worked well without me having to bribe an individual to have a proper assessment of my taxes and ensuring that advance tax payments ae done. The Lok Pal Bill wont solves these problems – It is Technology and service delivery models that will increase efficiency. The problem with the Anna Movement and it’s outburst is not corruption. It is accountability. I don’t think many would have a problem had the commonwealth games being organized efficiently. You actually though that China pulled off the Olympic games without any corruption? To sum up – The biggest problem with this movement is that important voices of sanity and more importantly of reason, have been marginalized.
And we call ourselves a Democracy.
