(Bigmate Episode 5, Topic No. 5, Care to be taken while dressing up)
Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society. ~Mark Twain
Dressing – A word that is vital in lives of chefs, doctors and even humans. Something which wraps up something, so that it becomes better, presentable and at times, even worth drooling. It is an important part of civilized society. It reflects the precision, brings out the flavours and enhances the presence of a person or thing it is combined with. It helps you to heal both physically and emotionally. Just imagine a world without it!
While dressing of a dish and a surgeon’s dressing is a specialization from a particular sect of people, who undergo a rigorous training, and years of experience to create a masterpiece, the third kind is always talk of the town.
Getting down to business :
There are certain rules or guidelines, which we are supposed to follow, and if we don’t, we become “superman”.
Clothes are part of the character. They can't but help inform who you are.Jill Clayburgh
Clothes are an integral part of a civilized society. Some dress, for the sake of dressing and some dress up as it gives them identity. There are people who never cared for clothes, but ironically, those clothes became iconic. Gandhi’s Dhoti & cap to Steve Jobs black t-shirt, jeans and sneakers. Sometimes people who influence you, their dressing style becomes fashion.
This is one critical factor, where a little off balance can entitle you for a fashion disaster. There are a few people who insist, it doesn’t matter much, how they are dressed. But I feel they are the ones who are really conscious about it.
There are a few basics which should be taken care of :
The X factor
Even Superman is damned for not wearing it right! The bare essentials are extremely important. Comfort and fit, should be taken well care of. And it is essential, or else Victoria would have faded with its secret. You can be a superman or glow in the dark. This is one area where you can unleash the animal.
The Texture
The finest clothing made is a person's skin, but, of course, society demands something more than this. ~Mark Twain
In today’s world, there are infinite choices to choose from. All naturals to blends to completely synthetic. Name it and they have it. But is it really made for you – is the question to ponder upon. Well apart from external factors like heat, humidity, internal factors like sensitivity, shape and size matter as well.
Cotton/Silk/Jute : The naturals. Very graceful, comfortable and elegant. Available in packets which suits the budget, and every fibre worth it. They accentuate the nature’s creation they wrap. But everything comes with a cost. High maintenance, easy wear and tear can at times drive you nuts.
Spoiler alert : ladies, if you wish to wear cottons, the extra kilos need to be shed. The light, fluffy, stiffy cotton can end you up looking like a balloon.
Synthetic : It can be glossy or matty, shimmery or dull. It can be what you want it to be. Well, here’s the fabric everyone dreams of, cheap, easy to maintain, long lasting and flairs all along. No more wrinkles, tough stains or limited choices of colours. But, since it is artificial, and artificial things don’t breathe, so wear it in humid at your own risk.
Spoiler alert : The fabric takes the shape of the body, and hence, it can really schematically present every inch of your extended belly.
The Size
Ofcourse Size Matters!
Fashion is architecture: it is a matter of proportions. ~CoCo Chanel
Don’t be futuristic. Don’t buy or wear things which are undersize or oversize. You can’t get away telling people you will loose 10 kgs after 2 years and then this shirt button will close or make a hanger out of self, thinking your every generation gained 100 kgs, so will you.
