Just like his character Malhar, an 8 year old chess prodigy, Deshik is also cracking the industry code and making his mark. The 30 year old actor landed at the Mumbai airport almost 2 years ago and described the feeling "surreal". "Mumbai gave me the feeling of New York. The city that opens its arms to everyone but I was surely nervous too" says the actor and when asked how he feels now about the widespread accolade for his performance and the success of "The boy who stopped smiling", the actor smiled and said "Who am I kidding? It's great to be in my shoe."

Deshik first came to limelight through his portrayal of Hamlet in the critically acclaimed devised piece "Shakespeare,Who" . Then again he made headlines last year for playing an ethically conflicted young lawyer in the controversial play " Dirty Conversations". But the real big break for Deshik came when he was offered to play the title character of the boy for the highly anticipated " The boy who stopped smiling". But Deshik sees it differently. " It was not about success. It was an opportunity and more than that a responsibility and that's a dream situation for an actor. A big role and all eyes on you", says the actor.

"The boy who stopped smiling" will start its national tour in July starting with its first run in Delhi. For the which Deshik is super excited and says " I can't wait to perform to different audiences of different cultural back ground and see how they respond. When asked about the recent offers in films and if he will ever shift his focus to movies, Deshik said "Sure if the project is exciting but theatre is where I belong. There is simply just nothing like the stage."

"The boy who stopped smiling" is currently playing at Prithvi Theatre of Mumbai throughout the summer.
