What about my Rs.700 invested in CWG 2010?

By: Dinzaach82 | Posted Oct 19, 2010 | General | 628 Views

A lot has been said and read about the controversial Delhi CWG 2010 and it may just not end in the near future.

A whooping 70k crores have been spent and if we see its Rs.700 per person in India on an average basis. (Rs.70,000, 0000000/100,0000,000 (Our population) Indeed our population is beyond that but we can spare people below poverty line and then we would be somewhere closer to be losing Rs.700 per head.

Since the games are over and within 24 hours the committees have been formed to investigate the corruption in the CWG and bring out the perpetrators to book. Everyone around, the politicians, the oppositions, OC, Delhi govt, Central Govt, Income Tax dept, PWD etc and almost everyone is involved to bring out some sort of a "scapegoat" .

I feel the following would be the possible chronology for the overall massacre that is surrounding the CWG:

  1. Committee formed to probe into the corruption of the games and to bring about the people involved to the book.

  2. Committee finds that there have been some irregularities in the expenditure and to get to the depth of the issue an extension would be required.

  3. Committee gets an extension.

  4. Blame game starts. (It has already started between Kalmadi and Dixit - It seems to be an artificial spat between the duos just to keep the ball dribbling)

  5. OC defends the increased cost of infrastructure and points it to MCD and others.

  6. MCD/Govts. Point out to others for the defalcation of cash.

  7. Committee insists on extension.

  8. One year passes and people and media forgets about the issue.

  9. Report says some irregularities in the CWG and recommends "Caution" to be exercised henceforth.

  10. Meanwhile, India bids for Olympics 2020.

  11. This time the budget would be around 140k crores.

The history is so much against the committees and their reports that we as citizens are far away from believing that there would be some outcome out of it. None of the politician has been awarded any punishment or even awarded any fine under such circumstance. But because the general public is now more than aware that such a huge amount of corruption has been done, it becomes the moral responsibility of the Central Govt to at least try to find the culprits. Indeed, it’s important to deviate the attention of the general public to somewhere else like Inflation, what Australians did at CWG, what Kasab did in the jail, petrol hike, food prices, taxes, strikes etc.

The different roles of different sects of our country:

Central Govt:We all know that such a corruption just cannot happen without the help and indirect support of the Central Govt. In that sense BJP is right if they are saying that PMO signs the bills and they must have the records of the inflating costs. But here, the person involved is a huge pawn in the Congress party and they cannot afford to loose him at the cost of games. But since they want to be in power and do not want to make this issue linger in the heart of its citizens for a longer time, will keep the investigation on and on. I don’t know why, but feel that there would be no action against anyone involved - AT ALL. Forming a committee by my mind is just an artificial step to deviate people from thinking about CWG. On the other hand there would be some settlement between the two political parties, as we heard in the case of Gujarat ( That came up in news as regards Amit Shah and Nuclear deal. I am not reckoning that, it was said in accusation by the Left parties. We don’t know the truth therein… )

Opposition: Don’t even think that they are too much concerned about the corruption! They might not be happy because they lost that opportunity of handling the games and don’t want Congress to gallop everything without a burp! Last time they used "Lord Ram" to get the throne of Delhi and now CWG provides a good option to create a massive heat for the next election. Again, they have got a very strong reason to walk out of the parliament on the same issue. Else who wants to be there in Lok Sabha? Opposition will put tremendous pressure on the Govt so that they can get rid of at least 2-3 strong Congress leaders in the process (Which Congress can’t afford)
