On my recent trip to Native place, we were suprised to find a female doggie being offered to us on a platter. This doggie yet unamed is a rare cross breed of Dobberman and Pomerian. The colour of the doggie with tinge of brown and white was inviting. The other two male litters were booked. Our option was the female pup.
NOW begins the ardous journey of bring up a pup. I just had an inkling that it is bound to be a difficult choice to breed a pet. It requires constant attention. We started with the purchase of feeding bottle, to feed milk, once we take possession, it will not have the benefit of breast feeding from its mom Julie.Next we had to purchase a carry basket which our neighbour helped us in the endeavour. To tame the shrew we had to constantly practise bottle feeding. The neighbourhood children gleefully came to our aid.
Next we had to practise to seat the puppy in the plastic basket. It used to create a racket. Then we switched to rocking the pup while walking, with the pleasant breeze and rocking movement, the puppy started getting sleepy. This was our experiment to carry off the same by train to Bangalore from Mlore.
Now came the d day, yesterday, and we had to make the ardous journey of managing the puppy all the way to Bangalore by train. I did a quick research and found that the puppy had to be carried compulsorily in brake van, which needed booking in parcel office. We travelled by bus without much disturbance to the railway station from Mulki. Next when we went to the parcel office we got a shock of our life when he mentioned that he will check whether there is provision for puppy kennel in the train. Otherwise we have to abandon the puppy in the station. Our desire to breed a dog would have come to a premature end. Luckily the booking clerk confirmed that the train has provision of dog kennel. I came to know only day time trains have this provision. One has to pay Rs 50 as ticketing charge for the puppy booking. Next one has to approach the guard in the brake van. He arrives almost at the neck of the moment when the train departs. We went to deposit the puppy after checking in our luggage. The guard saw the puppy and knew it can be handled in our compartment. He allowed us to carry the same along with us, which we gleefully accepted.
Initially the doggie was quiet, but he showed his colour by moaning once he felt that he had enough sleep. I had to carry it across to the door for the breeze and rocking motion to once again make the doggie asleep. This exercise continued almost 5 times, with intermittent breaks for feeding the doggie.Luckily the entire crowd was with the doggie and curious, they used to come and pamper the puppy now and than. The children were thrilled. It made our 12 hours journey fly like a wind in a tunnel.
The scenary and stormy climate added to the beauty of our experience. Now comes the crucial decision of naming the female doggie. Any suggestions friends to name the DOP ( Doberman and Pom cross breed )
