Well most people when they are young don't like their name.I didn't liked mine when I was learning to spell ,the problem was that it was too long.Seven letters ,i would spell it sarava, sauraba saurabha and many like that .At that time I thought my parents should have kept my name to some thing like nitu, rocky ,vishal anything that is less then five letters.and in fact I hated all the big names like Giani jail singh.Learning them was always pain. And in fact I used abbreviations for my dad's name.Slowly when I was able to learn my name's spelling,it became clear that it wasn't that big a name and it has to be only once that you have to learn it .The second problem regarding name was faced when I reached fifth standard was that Saurabh was a very common name and there was always someone else with the same first name. The only good thing was that I didn't had a common surname and the combination of the two would usually be unique. If people had surnames like kumar they would be called saurabh kumar 1 and 2.Now that is really irritating most of the time.
But there was something about my name which I liked starting with 'S' my roll no was usually sixty three or sixty four and in any viva or any thing of that sort I would be knowing all the questions ,though it didn't guaranteed that I knew the answers. In exams you got that extra minute to write,it was another thing that I never was short of time in most of my exams ;-) .When I reached eighth our school gave us a chance to change our names ,So for a week new fancy names were pondered on and rejected ,I decided that my name is good enough(Anyways my parents would not have agreed) .
One of the good things about having same name was that you became good friends with such persons and you are always saurabh when other Saurabh addressed you ,there were many other factors like you sat one behind other in exam so you require to share and help each other a lot.
It was during engineering that a unique group of persons by name of Saurabh got together in my branch, we were six in number Bansal , Chaudhary ,Gupta , Mishra,Sharma , Sharma .Usually we gave viva all together and the pattern was usually like this Bansal -No Response .Chaudhary-would most probably repeat the question and say nothing after that .Gupta-Would say a lot and would mean nothing.Me -Pass.Sharma- Pass,Sharma -mumbled something not audible. We always hoped that the girl before us also came in our group. She would start saying at jet speed ,we would try to catch a few heavy words and then try to construct around it.Usually this formula succeeded but once in electronics practical she went at a super jet speed and two of the in between were absent. Now I am quite sure even the teacher was not able to grasp a word so he looked at me and of course I was also not able to remember anything so I said,She is right.Well after that many thing happened ,that teacher asked repeat what she said.Well ...... .So after that we took her to canteen made her buy a tea for herself and made it clear to her that she requires to go slow for sake of team spirit.Well She said that she goes fast only when she was also not very sure of answers,Alas we couldnt have stopped her from doing that :-( .
