Beyond the boundary
When anybody asks me, what I am doing, I reply them I am doing M.Sc. Mathematics. In past eighteen months when I have replied such question, 8 out of every 10 people think me I am really genius. They then share me their horrible encounter with Mathematics during school days. Then every 5 out of those 8 people ask me, "what you want to do after MSc?" I reply them "Well, I want to be social reformer and work for people". They think me I am illogical, most of the time they have asked me why did I study Mathematics then? They believe "a mathematician can never serve his society". After all, it was not their personal view, it is view that has been bounded by the educational disciplines.
Since then I have asked myself on many occasion, "Is mathematics(or mostly Science Education) people can play no role in reformation of society? Is our education just beyond the boundary of Social cause?"
It doesn't mean that I neglect or ignore the term of specialization. They are important. A person studies medicine to be specialized in cure process of human fellow. When they feel MBBS is not sufficient, they go for MS to be specialist while few prefer to go till super specialist. The class 10 mathematics which is toughest part for many is the one we use today in simplest level. Likewise, the study of Society is also similar. Genius studies to extreme level, do research in different aspects of society and come with the conclusion for the welfare of society. So, we science student who has never studied such things can't contribute as much as they have been doing, but does it really mean that we can do nothing for society?
In my unsuccessful attempt to clarify about my vision of working for'transformative education in society', one of respectable literate said me, "you will have no any option to work in that field". I was astonished to see his such reaction making me to reply back in'straight forward' way, "That is my problem how do I work for society". It was quite'not of me' for me to reply such, but when he was not in mood to listen me, I didn't have other option.
We study for the knowledge. This knowledge gives us the willingness to work for society that we are living in. Yeah, I know that a graduate in social science can't teach anyone Mathematics as much as a Mathematician can do. Similarly, I understand that I am unaware of society as much as those people who have been studying it since last many years. But it is not that one can't work for reformation of society. The knowledge that I have earned, I surely can apply it in my society so that I can give an effective output to my people, if not in years, may be in decades; if not in fullest, at least in some or other part of Society. What it all needs is willing heart, rest are developed along with time. If we are learning in this society, can't our knowledge play any role in reforming the society? If yes, don't we have any right to know about the limitation and good works within society? After all, we all are social!
Yep. We all are social. We understand the pain of Human. But this doesn't mean that a mother will come to operation theater and ask super specialist doctor to give her the role to operate her children. It's not her role. Her role might not be within Operation theater, but she will surely be having other role so that her child gets to good health early. Similarly, Each and every of us may not be able to contribute to society in extreme form, but never apart, we may have each role to play. And if united and played in positive attitude, we surely can be in reformed society, not as a dream, but as a consequences of collective ideas and transformative steps. But if the education we have learned can't come in the rescue of human civilization, then our education is a total waste. If somebody feels, their education is the'necessity and sufficient' condition for smooth operation, then they are total waste. I might be bold in extreme form, but it is true, "One hand however powerful may be, it can never produce a clapping sound".
Let us be united to bring reformation in society, let us think beyond the boundary.
