I always wonder, are addictions good or bad? We all know that too much of anything is bad. May be or may be not! It all depends on what we are addicted to. We can define several addictions for each phase of life. The main addictions that pertain to each phase of life are as follows:
The addictions of childhood:
Addiction To Innocence:
An addiction which we adults always miss. The carefree phase of life when tension, sadness and stress take a back seat, almost non-existent. Life is devoid of complexities. The time when ignorance is bliss!
Addiction To happiness:
The time of life when it seems like being in a fairy tale. The angelic environment, the world of wonders and the world devoid of sorrow and complexities.
BUT...
Don’t forget about the children who never get to enjoy innocence! The homeless children who resort to begging and strive to satisfy their hunger with only one meal per day, sometime no meal at all! The children who attain maturity well before adults do. The children who work hard in the fields and cry all night in pain and agony!
The addictions of teenage:
Addiction To Fun:
The time of life when having fun is everything. Enjoying the goodness of life to the fullest. The numerous outings with friends and family. The never ending movie nights and the parties. The fun filled college life. The time when learning to drive is the greatest achievement. The time of life when there is no sense of time!
Addiction To Learning:
The thirst for knowledge and the eagerness to learn. The time of life when sense of competition takes the driving seat. The golden days of life when students work hard to build up a strong educational base for a bright future. The ever curious minds striving to grasp all the knowledge in the world.
BUT...
Dont forget the poor teens who are burdened with responsibilities and work hard day and night to support their families and struggle to make ends meet. The poor teens for whom fun is defined as "the very little time left for resting after a days’ hard work"! Those teens who cant afford to buy books because they can only manage to earn enough money to buy food for themselves. The teens who lose interest in life and resort to drug addiction!
Addictions of adults:
Addiction to responsibility and work:
The phase of life when responsibility and hard work go hand in hand. The responsibility as an ideal son/daughter, the responsibility as a parent, the responsibility as a professional, the
responsibility as a husband/wife, the responsibility as a citizen etc. The hunger for success and the desire to reach the top. The time when maturity leads the way!
Addiction to love:
The time of life when love is in the air. The phase defined by the moments of attraction and the constant struggle between hearts. The time when romance and obsession rule the mind, body and soul. Love towards life partner, love towards children/parents, love towards work and love towards success!
BUT...
Don’t forget the adults who go into depression or rejection because of a broken heart or failure in life. The adults who struggle to find work and have no one to call their own. The adults who get addicted to alcohols because of the vacuum created in their lives due to lack of love and respect.
There is one addiction that is common to all the phases of life. It is the universal addiction that all must adopt. The addiction that will bring happiness and contentment:
THE ADDICTION TO "LOVE TOWARDS LIFE"
