Five rare gems

Umm?..Errr.....Ok

By penning this review, I guess I am inviting a lot of trouble over who is good and who is not and whose review deserved to be rated as the finest ever. For one, I want to nip the argument in the bud for I do believe that while this is a review site and reviews are useful/non useful, I personally find no reason why I should pass a value judgment on any particular reviewer.

For me reviews are to be rated; as far as reviewers are concerned, I don?t know any of them personally and my limited knowledge about them makes me the draw a line and not rate them based on either their knowledge about a product or their writing skills per se.

Secondly this is going to be my opinion and all the dissensions( if any) should be voiced in the comments section. I am absolutely fine with that. Having said this, before people jump to rate this review as not useful, let me talk about my favourite reviews on MS till date.

NOTE : I have purposely included the best reviews written by MSians a long time back as a result of which many of us have not had the opportunity to read and rate them. And if some of us might have a problem with that, frankly, I couldn?t care less.

The following are in no particular order and I found all of them equally useful.

1) Kalil Rahman?s review on ?To kill a Mocking Bird?

https://mouthshut.com/readreview/56472-1.html

I had barely finished this book when I saw Kalil?s review and though it was pretty difficult for me to wait; I resisted the temptation and waited till I read the last page of the book. Thereafter while reading this review, what followed was a thorough analysis of ?prejudice?- one very striking aspect of the book, its implications, human tendencies and analysis of the various characters and the storyline as well. And yet it did not deter Kalil from writing straight from the heart. That?s the beauty of his review. It manages to sound very natural and conversational despite such intricate analysis on the book.

2) Kerala in general by Copygurrl

https://mouthshut.com/readreview/49358-1-rating-5.html

This is one writer who is gifted with an amazingly clear and interesting way of describing things in general. And when it comes to God?s own country, do I need to say much? She talks about Vythiri resort in Kerala?s Wayanad district and has given some very useful tips but the best thing about this review is its simplicity. No maps, cuisines discussed; no ayurveda/ backwaters described.

Its not as if I have a problem with any of those mentioned above but I find these same things about Kerela oft repeated in every single travelogue. In very simple yet beautiful (or probably beautiful because its so simple) terms, she has described everything about the resort. Many of you might disagree with my choices but I have found something very attractive about all of these reviews. Now them some of us who know me well might think its because of my fiancé who happens to be a Keralite and the fact that we have been to this place, yes you are right, that?s one major reason for selecting this review over others.:-)

3) Premjit?s The Power of Now

https://mouthshut.com/readreview/56130-1.html

Now then, Premjit happens to be one of the best reviewers ever on MS and unanimously so. He can make Ekta Kapoor, Mithun and Alok Nath sound as if they have single handedly brought the Indian entertainment industry to its present moment of glory, wit being his middle name. When I joined MS a few months back, I felt his forte lay in getting humour into the picture. Well till I read this review which is so unique and full of depth that you would want to grab the book and start reading the moment you can find it.(which is exactly what I did). I do not want to describe his writing style or his lucid description of the book because most of us familiar with that and you could safely assume that in all of his reviews. Just read the following lines :

?The Power of Now is a meticulous deconstruction of everything that inhibits our ability to see beyond the confines of our own negative thoughts of the past or future, and provokes a shift towards appreciating the beauty of life in its present moment.?

You would enjoy reading this review is all I can tell you.

4) Deepshikha?s Technology- boon or bane

https://mouthshut.com/readreview/57926-1.html

One of the commonest debate topics/ essay topic in school exams you could find and the most clichéd of arguments presented whenever this motion is presented in debate contests. Why pray did I choose this review by Deepshikha when there are so many others which she has written so wonderfully well?

Two reasons : One the lucid style in which the review has transformed itself from being a thoroughly researched one talking about absolutely obscure scientific theories to a very rational amalgamation of experiences from day to day life.

Two the fact that she has managed to walk the tightrope of Bane and Boon without leaving the readers nonplussed. She has discussed the pros and cons without any point of time getting either the reader confused or giving this impression of her thoughts not being organized. Great review and a very enjoyable one at that.

5) Five gifts you would like to receive by Diver

https://mouthshut.com/readreview/64055-1.html

As most of us know, Diver has written wonderful reviews in the past on movies (esp. the sci - fi ones which I found very interesting) and computer games etc but when I saw this category written against Diver?s name I wondered if this is the Diver we all know. What followed was a set of the loveliest of gifts one could hope for and such sincere emotions conveyed through such simple but very touching words. All the gifts were very abstract but worth cherishing forever. Just read this review and feel good about so much of goodness and warmth reflected from this review. A gem of a review, cannot be missed.

This was in a way very impulsive of me because normally I write a review and post it after a few hours when I am done with my laziness but this one was instant and all the reviews were the ones that I distinctly remember for their excellent themes and descriptions. I don?t know if this is how a review under this category should be and frankly ??

Yeah, You guessed it right.
