What is beauty?

Though the definition of beauty would vary from person to person, the basic idea remains the same. Wikipedia defines Beauty through wonderful words: The ‘characteristic’ of ‘appearance’ that brings pleasure or satisfaction. Hence, appearance is an important aspect of beauty.

Pehle Darshan dhari

Most of the times, we judge people by their looks, their appearance. In case of a person’s appearance, one’s skin complexion matters first. Body frame, height, features of face comes thereafter. We judge people in parameter of their skin colour, we consider the fairs beautiful on earth. I wonder, still in 21st century, we continue to hate/underestimate the people who have dark complexions most of the times. Don’t we?

The damage

The people with dark skin colour undergoes inferiority complex. Feeling the fact that fair skin is the only way being glamorous – all in the showbiz are so fair, stars look beautiful - they does not feel free to mix up with people, they suffers from secret depression. This kind of differentiation can cause permanent damage to their mind. Even my younger sister is much darker than me & she thinks I always look better than her and she stays alert & confused of selecting colour of her cloths & cosmetics.

Endorsing fairness

Indians are really obsessed with fair skin. Guys want fair skinned girls or saasu maas look for fair skinned bahus. Fair is beautiful – this thinking has deep rooted in our mentality. Every dark skinned want to get fairer to look better.

Stars also endorse fairness in advertisements that we can see every alternate 5mins. Take the instances of Fair & Lovely or Handsome or bathing soaps. They lure public by showing the fairer skin of the models and how successful they became after applying their crème! It will leave you linger on the message: you will become fairer in just 7days(How the hell is that possible? That is another topic.)!

Turn Inside out

Now tell me, can a crème/soap give fairness? Is it necessary to have fair skin to be a good human being? Or, what’s the relation of being fair and being successful?

Isn’t it showing our narrow mentality? Has the time not come yet to realize that being human is all: skin complexion does not matter? Fair skins can also do unfair and dark can do wonders too.

The actual beauty is in our mind. One must determine how beautiful one person is by realizing their mind; by realizing how the person is as a friend / a co-worker/ a life partner/ a neighbour. The help, the support, the care, the guidance we do for one another and the sweetness in our thought, our idealism, our behavior, our words – is our individuality, our character – decides whether I am a beautiful person.

One needs to be beautiful from within. Turn your inside out if you are beautiful in your heart because real beauty lies inside your heart. If your heart is beautiful it will set you different and remarkable among others.

Fair is fair but dark is not unfair either.

Stay fair in heart. Stay beautiful. Stay blessed.

Moumita
