Do Not Use TalkCity.com Ever!
Feb 08, 2017 05:22 PM 1772 Views

I have used TalkCity.com in the past and I would not recommend anybody to use it ever. It is a pathetic website. There is only a few limited things or features available on this website.

The support and service is very poor. I didn't like it.

The information depth is also not so much encouraging. It needs some work.

The content timeliness is also pathetic. There is nothing good available on this website.

The design is very outdated. It doesn't even look like a social networking website.

The website load time is also not good. It buffers a lot.

I will give it 1/5 stars.

My Favorite Chat Site is Talk City
Nov 25, 2007 08:14 AM 3250 Views

Talk City is one of my favorite web sites and they have many features

but the one that I use all the time and really enjoy is their web page

building.

You can do a web page in html or you can

do one not knowing any html at all.

They have many backgrounds to chose from with some wonderful pictures. The graphics are nice and clear.

You can upload music to your site from what you have stored on your

computer and it is very easy. Do remember that the longer the song the

longer it will take your page to load.

They have counters so you know how many times your site has been visited and you can make a direct link to chat on your site.

I change mine every so often just for a new look.

It is easy to put in links to other sites and you can add as many as you like which really makes an impressive web page.

Editing is very easy also.

I have several web pages on various sites but the one I like best is Talk City.

If you decide to put up a web page don’t forget to add links to

mouthshut or anywhere else you may write to bring more people to your

sites.

You can also have people’s sites you link to link back to you and you will get a lot more hits to your page this way.

Put your site address on all your profiles so people can go and look at what else you do.

I am in the process of updating mine and some people have written me

that they would like to read some of my poetry and as soon as it is

updated with new links I will be placing it on my profile page here.

I recommend to anyone but especially a beginner who has never done a

web page to check this site out. Just go to https://talkcity.com

Drama Central

I have been going to Talk City a little over a year. You can make up as many nic names as you want, so if you get locked out of a chat room for any particular reason, you can just make up a new nic and go back in the room and the owner will never know it.

Owners can ban you, or lock you out of their room if they don't like your nic name, don't like where you live, the color of your hair, the way you type, or they can kick you out for no particular reason at all. I have been kicked out of so many rooms over stupid stuff like this. It dosent seem fair but according to Talk City it's THEIR room so they can do anything they want.

There were some rooms where there was a lot of drama. Disgruntled, ex room operators or chatters that keep coming back to a room with new nics and posting on the forum. Or changing the room topic to something offensive, Chaos would break loose and the owners and ops would have to get Fireefly in there. If this happens watch out she gets really mad and arguments may erupt in the forum or in the chatroom.

I went into a room a few weeks ago and the room owner lady was like ''KANDY you need to fill out your profile NOW!'' I told her my asl in the room, and she was like ''NO! DO IT NOW! PROFILE'' I was right in the middle of filling in my profile and she was like ''what are you doing, KANDY GET YOUR A** IN THE ROOM NOW!'' I told her to chill out and I was filling out my profile. She went crazy and was like ''GET OUT!'' OUT OUT!'' NOW!'' I was like why? and she was like ''I AM NOT GONNA HAVE YOU BAD MOUTHING ME AND MY OPS, I SAID GET OUT!'' Then she kicked me and locked out my nic.

It was crazy I know.

I went back in the room with a new nic and made a post asking why she kicked me and that it wasnt fair. Then I went in the room and everyone went crazy and the owner was like THATS IT IM EMAILING FIREEFLY!'' Then she kicked me again. The next day my all my names were deleted and fireefly banned my IP address so I couldnt get in any rooms. I emaied her and she was so mad I think the owner told her a bunch of lies. Somehow I was able to get in the eooms again and I went to the same room with my new nic and Fireefly was in there and the posts were all arguments between the ops and a chatter. Yelling and screaming, bantering each other. I said the drama needs to stop in a post and I got yelled at to mind my own business. LOL!

I was given ops and she took them away the next day and gave them to someone else. She wouldnt talk to me and I was like ??? ok??? then the next day she gave me back my ops and de-oped the other person. They got mad and went to fireefly and as you can guess drama broke loose. I asked her why she took away my ops and she thoght I was involved in bringing the room down. The op kept coming in the room and making bad posts to the owner and she had to get fireefly in there again. They got banned from talk city.

Remember rooms like this arent too common, most rooms are very friendly and NORMAL. But watch out for the support/health rooms thats where one of the rooms was and the crazy room owner.LOL

I am using yahoo messenger for years. I am fully satisfiied with this messenger. Other messengers like msn and aol went for paid service while yahoo provides free service. Yahoo Messenger is easy and simple to use. We can also use our GSM mobile for chatting.

In the new version of yahoo messenger we can send flirts to whom we are talking for and very good privacy facilities available.

Different members can be given different status.ie one can be made visible an another can be made invisible at the same time.

When we are signing out from the yahoo messenger we can automatically turn online to our mobile. We will get messages through our mobile.

Disadvantage is that only 2 yahoo messages can be send continously on the mobile , further text can be sent only if the person replies and the message through the mobile will cost Rs 3 per message which is very high.....new version has lots of graphics , but takes lot of time to load.

It will give alert messages ..

No service for archives if we are working on different computers.

Better video quality( web cam) , but poor sound quality(voice chat)

Yahoooooooo!!!!!!

Hi people,

First of all I must apologise to you readers for having given a review of yahoo messenger in talkcity as there was no reviews on yahoo messenger till dat and you all should forgive me for that.

Ok people lets begin!

when I was going through various reviews being put up, I found a very strange thing. There were reviews about AOL messenger, Indya messenger etc... Frankly speaking I have been using the net for the past 7 years and have found only a single messenger which had captured my eye and iam dead sure that I am raising my eyebrows here with this comment but then this is my perception and that is the Yahoo Messengerwhich according to me is truly senstional and in this review I will discuss the good things as well as bad things about Y! messenger.

The emoticons that are being used in yahoo messenger is probably very unique from other messengers such as MSN, ICQ or for that matter AOL too. Agreed that there have been amazing changes that have been made. Yahoo messenger probably was the one of the first messengers where you could use the webcams that were installed alongwith the personal computers. This facility was then brought into the MSN messenger after sometime.

What is so special about Yahoo?

Yahoo Messenger is a free service that allows you to see when friends come online and send them instant messages. It also can alert you to new e-mail in your Yahoo Mail or Yahoo Personals account, or when you have upcoming events recorded in Yahoo Calendar. Yahoo Messenger offers firewall support, a standby mode that minimizes the program until an Internet connection is made, the ability to save and print your conversations, and a tabbed interface that provides quick access to your favorite stocks, news, and sports scores.

Other features include the ability to create a chat room automatically, stock price alerts, the ability to send messages to friends (even if they're not online when you are), a Quick Compact mode that hides the Messenger tools to maximize your viewing area, Messenger Themes, and voice chat, which allows you to talk for free to anybody else on the Internet. Using a Webcam, you can see who you're chatting with or view the Webcam of any Yahoo member who has granted you access.

The latest version adds Launchcast Radio, Yahoo Games, Yahoo Audibles, and stealth settings. Of all the chat clients tied to a portal, Yahoo delivers the most impressive messaging experience. Its network is intelligently integrated, its chat features are smart and intuitive, and its extras often are genuinely interesting. If you're a Yahoo user, you'll have access to all the information you store in your Yahoo profile, including your calendar, address book, and customized news. Messaging is about as straightforward as it gets, and message archives are handy, though not always easy to sift through.

Though the program's animated emoticons and IMVironments could come across as cheesy and irrelevant, they turn out to be surprisingly winning. One great example of the integrated network supporting interesting extras is the Yahoo Photos IMVironment, which lets you share photos you have stored online right in the messaging window.

Alas, ads appear in the multiuser chat window, but thankfully not in the one-to-one messaging window. Because of its many built-in features, Yahoo Messenger 6.0 is known as the Swiss Army Knife of free IM clients for Windows. To name a few, Yahoo Messenger serves up a radio, games, a stock tracker, weather, and a calendar/day planner along with regular IM, chat, e-mail, and user-management functions. If you want a lot of bells and whistles to go along with your IM and chat app, choose Yahoo Messenger. That said, it ultimately requires 11.66MB of your hard disk, more than any other IM client we reviewed.

You can download Yahoo Messenger 6.0 from Download.com Like AIM, whenever you log in to Yahoo Messenger, whether at home or from a cafe, it will display your contact list, so you always stay in touch with friends and colleagues.

Unfortunately, Yahoo Messenger accounts won't work within other IM clients, but you can use software such as Trillian to mix messengers. You can format Yahoo Messenger text messages with a wide range of font styles and emoticons, as well as audible cues to personalize your specific message; a selection of themed backgrounds, called IMVironments, lets you further customize your messages.

When you receive a message, Yahoo Messenger displays a system tray notification with the name of the sender, so a quick look will help you decide whether to respond immediately (by clicking the tray notification) or wait till later.

Free conference chat lets you converse with multiple users within the same message window. Yahoo Messenger also lets you select a photo or an avatar to represent you in messages. Plus, if text isn't your thing, Yahoo Messenger supports voice chat (through the PC's microphone and speaker) and one-on-one Web video (if your PC has a Webcam) as had been mentioned earlier in this review!!

Where lies the disappointment?

One will surely find that Yahoo Messenger's support to be weak, despite Yahoo's market preeminence. A help Web page does provide explanation and guidance for Yahoo Messenger's main features, but depending on your issue, you may have to dig a few levels down to find what you're really looking for. Luckily, the support site is searchable; however, one would not be able to find any links to live or e-mail support within Yahoo Messenger itself.

Now the Yahoo messenger at a glance!

The good: Free; supports voice chat and Webcam; includes configurable tools that make Messenger very versatile.

The bad: No convenient e-mail technical support; oversize interface.

What's it for: Sending instant messages (chat) between two or more Yahoo users.

Who's it for: Everyone.

Business use: This basic IM client works fine for any rapid-fire communication--say, while talking on the phone to someone else.

To conclude, one should understand that yahoo is improving its base in a very rapid way which is highly and its messenger is still used the whole world over and it does have a above mentioned errors or areas where it needs to improve which can surely catch the attention of millions of Y! users worldwide.

Talkcity worse now then before
Sep 11, 2004 06:05 AM 3585 Views

Talkcity reopened and promised people the world to get them back in. They charge $49.00 a year to own a room and $7.77 a year to use an irc instead of the crappy java they offer for free. Talkcity is run by a clique of people and Fireefly is the number one person. If your not a part of the clique your not wanted in talkcity and will get absolutley no help in any areas.

There are a little over 400 rooms purchased right now but any given time of the day or night you will see less then 200 of those rooms being used, and msot of them rooms have less then 15 chatters in them. Talkcity thinks its great if they reach 1000 chatters at one time.

Talkcity chatters and room owners are harrassed and ignored constantly. Talkcity is owned by delphi, who owns and runs another chat server too, where each person is treated with respect and each person is welcomed to any help available.

Talkcity will not make it much longer if they don;t get rid of the clique and the people in the clique. Its sad to see so amny people having spent so much money to be ignored or harrassed til they leave.

Talk City - Overcrowded
Dec 10, 2001 10:34 AM 4099 Views

I use to love TalkCity when you could use IRC to go to their chat rooms (they removed this but never really explained why - I did get an e-mail from them that they were adding this feature back but I have not had a chance to go back and see). The main problem is that they grew extremely fast and their servers could not handle all the new people and they became extremely slow. Imagine being in a great chat with someone and everything slows down so much that you might as well be sending e-mails back and forth and that was what it was like.

I like chat rooms because they are fast and TalkCity just was not realistically fast. If they add more servers and remove the horrible frames you are forced to use than they would have one of the best chat services available.

TalkCity Is Worse Than...
Nov 25, 2001 10:23 PM 9063 Views

There are a million things that I would rather do than chat at TalkCity.com.

  1. Stand in the shower and shave my head with a cheese grater while chewing on tinfoil and bathing in kerosene.

The rest are inconsequential, as that pretty much sums up the full extent of my feelings towards this lame-assed chat server.

Several years ago, TalkCity was a great place to chat. That’s mainly what they offered: A free chat server where you could log on and go to various rooms with all kinds of different themes in order to talk with other people from all over the world. Eventually it all went to hell, and they added new features such as your very own (free) HomePage builder, but it still stinks regardless. Here’s why.

  1. Software. You can login with their Java-based IRC client (EZTalk) for free. This takes several minutes to load, and very little space on your screen is devoted to actual chat space. The rest is filled with advertisement banners and other nonsense. If you’re patient enough to go through this nightmare, then you can follow several links to the channel you want to participate in - this is tedious and rather time-consuming.

A long, long time ago I could use MY chat software (mIRC available at mirc.com) to chat for free with TalkCity. With this software I could enter any chat room, remember my username and password, create popups and aliases (shortcuts), and program scripts to do anything I wanted from automatically displaying text to...well, the possibilites were endless. I had a lot of fun with mIRC, as it was very affordable, easy to use, and straightforward.

Then TalkCity got in a twitch because they claimed hackers were using mIRC to break into channels and do harm. So, they took away that ’’privilege’’ and said that chatters could either use EZTalk (yuck) or download a special version of another IRC software (pIRCh) designed just for TalkCity. pIRCh for TalkCity was a lot like mIRC, except that it was slower - and, as with EZTalk, more screen space went to advertising than to actual chat! This frustrated me to no end, so I removed the program from my computer and forgot about TalkCity - all the little chat friends I’d met on that server had my e-mail address and were on ICQ anyway, so it wasn’t any big loss on my part.

A few days ago, I logged into TalkCity just for kicks and discovered that they are now making you PAY for the ’’privilege’’ of using any software save for their EZTalk nonsense. You pay twelve dollars a year in order to use TalkCity pIRCh - while twelve dollars a year is VERY affordable, it is not reasonable. With all the crappy ad banners and sponsorships that TalkCity has gained over the past few years, I see NO good reason that they should CHARGE people to logon to their servers.

  1. Rent-a-cops. If anybody sees ShaneCSA or AndrewCSA on TalkCity, tell them I still think they’re egotistical jerks. ’’CSA’’ means City Standards Advisor. They’re ’special’ users that run around TalkCity, banning and kicking users out of various chat rooms. They even invade private chat rooms and punt users, then close the room. They created the CSAs in order to protect children from harassment and other dangers, but going into MY private room, which is filled with other adults? Give me a break! I don’t need a fake cop looking over my shoulder to make sure my friends and I are playing nicely.

Sometimes TalkCity has authors and movie directors into their chat rooms in order to talk with fans. This would be nice, if I could ever get into these already-full channels in order to ’’meet’’ these people. It’s a nice little lure, to get people to come into the rooms, really. Even so, it doesn’t change the fact that I think TalkCity sucks.

You can also build your own HomePage (if you’re a registered member, of course) with TalkCity’s homepage builder. Personally, I find it very restricting, as you can’t include a lot of things such as advanced HTML and CGI scripting. Besides which, your content is censored like no other: There’s no such thing as freedom of speech in TalkCity.

Have I ever mentioned that I was once banned from TalkCity servers for over twenty-four hours because I was involved in a perfectly innocent discussion about the merits of legalizing marijuana in the United States? (I was talking with a chatter from Holland, for God’s sake!)

So, the censorship aspects of TalkCity also annoy the hell out of me. If I want to be baby-sat, I’ll sit under my grandmother’s watchful eye. When I log on to the Internet, I am doing it so that I can meet new people, hear different points of view, and express my thoughts freely. TalkCity doesn’t want to hear any of that nonsense, so I left. Besides which, a lot of the users kept talking about the same boring stuff all the time: Y2K was the main topic right before the end of 1999, which is the time that I decided to say sayonara to this lame server.

If you have the mind to chat with other people - which I honestly think is a waste of time, preferring sites such as this instead - I suggest the following course of action:

Login to https://mirc.com and download the latest version of mIRC. Go ahead and scan it for viruses, though there won’t be any in the installation file.

Install the software, read the Help files until you get an idea of what’s going on, then go to the login screen.

There is a drop-down list containing HUNDREDS of excellent chat servers - all for free, with few rules and restrictions regarding free speech. Select one, enter a username, and go for it. Eventually you’ll find one that you like - when this happens, register your username with that server and enjoy chatting.

One disadvantage to this, of course, is that most servers are filled with cybersex chat rooms. However, these can easily be avoided simply by not entering them - you are bound to find a G-rated channel that other ’’regulars’’ will go out of their way to keep safe and clean.

I understand the fun of chatting once in a while but being on places like Talk City every minute is one of the biggest problems of IT while a boom for the company itself. TalkCity is extremely slow which I understand because they have traffic 24x7 from audience around the world. I dont like their website divided into small sections using frames. I have experienced some compatibility problems. I am not a big fan of chat but only ONCE IN A WHILE I enjoy meeting Indians. I really would'nt recommend this site because of its useless need in our busy society where every minute can be turned into cash... you gotta be a fool if you chat even for an hour. period!
