EXPEDIA: Willful deception???

On April 26, 2023 I made a flight booking with OMAN Air(Paris - Perth - Paris) via EXPEDIA and took a screenshot of the cancellation policy(fees: 100 €) during the booking process. After completing the booking, I received the OMAN AIR fare conditions(cancellation fees: €300). A phone call to Expedia regarding the different cancellation fees was answered by customer service with the words "There's nothing we can do about it!". On May 30, 2023, I received an email from EXPEDIA saying “Oman Air has changed your flight details. There is a need for action. Call us so we can find a new flight for you. If you don't want to travel, click'Cancel'.” I then called EXPEDIA on May 31, 2023 to find a new flight. In addition, I was repeatedly promised free cancellation in the event of an inadequate flight rebooking. When EXPEDIA still hadn't sent me an adequate flight rebooking 24 hours later, I used the "free cancellation option" and clicked the "Cancel" button. After calling "EXPEDIA" again regarding the duration of the full refund, I was told that I had to pay a cancellation fee of €300 - this would have been decided by OMAN AIR. Despite EXPEDIA's clear and repeated "verbal or telephone" promise regarding a free refund, I have to pay the €300 cancellation fee myself!

Quite surprised to see many bad reviews. I use Expedia since more than 5 years to buy flights or packages and never had bad issues. I can only reccomend Expedia from my whole experience, but respect for the other people's opinion whatever it be.

I bought a ticket from Expedia with Air Asia. Air Asia cancelled the flight so I can get my money back. I called Expedia and Air Asia 3 times with no help. They both refused to refund me. I gave my money to Expedia so they should pay me back. They do not have a good system for giving back money. Only taking the money. Company is bad !!!

No hotel room despite paying in advance

I had booked a two-bedroom apartment in Dubai through Expedia and made the payment in full in advance - Rs.70K for 9 days. When I reached the hotel, to my astonishment, the hotel refused to check me in stating that they do not have any reservation. I showed them a printed copy of Expedia Confirmation Voucher but they stated that the booking was not there in their system. My hell started at that time and for next 4 hours, I had called Expedia office in Gurgaon several times and spoke to many telecallers. Each one keeps me on hold for 23 min to 32 min and then cut off. My holiday was ruined. Finally in the evening someone from Expedia US called me and arranged an alternate hotel accommodation for me which was no where near what I booked for. I had no choice and was exhausted and hence stayed in this new hotel. What is the responsibility of Expedia? None contacted me afterwards nor offered any explanation. It is disgusting. We'd booked a stay for 2 nights stays in Pune 2 months in advance via Expedia, they sent the confirmation on the mail. When we reached the hotel, turns out the hotel did not receive any booking from them, the customer care kept transferring to relocation team it was not hold for 1 hr. Even after registering the complaint via customer care there was no help from the. We had to arrange for alternate hotel ourselves and were left with expensive and not very nice options. After this nightmare I called the hotel of other upcoming booking and again they had not received booking from Expedia. Pathetic service. Don't ever use it.

Worst experience with expedia hotel booking. Booked hotel "sai atithi" 4 day prior to visit "shirdi" got conformation on mail "your booking is confirm no need to call". but when I reached their with my family I was told their was no hotel booking made by me even though I have made a payment online. I was told their was no confirmation they got from expedia.This shows that their is no coordination of expedia and their tie up hotels and the payment which I made is with expedia. I asked for arrangement in other hotels I was told to make it of my own. some how I made it. I am waiting for refund of the amount but their is no response from expedia team.

We all know all hotels registered with Expedia are well furnished, cooprative, well mannered staff etc. Hotel has same amenities & facility which are mentioned on there web-site. But, when we will talk about its customer suppoort they are very much less supportive.


Customer support of Expedia do not understand customers concerns. They do not think about "how much money customer has invested in hotel booking". In month of August we had bookinng for hotel Golden Park, which is placed in Colaba, due to heavy rian fall in Mumbai, GOI had advice to travel to city Mumbai. So, we had requested to its customer support to for the cancellation of the booking, however, their CSR denied for the cancellation of the booking with excuse of cancellation policy.


Information & content provided on the web site is very much clear and rooms as given in hotel are same.


Web site is userfriendy and sorting option is very much helpful to get requirable hotel under budget.


Web site server are very much responsive and it gives result ASAP.


But, customer support service is too bad and customer require well mature CSR who can understand customers concern, to get it resolve. As they do not have well supportive customer support I will not go Expedia.

This is really very SAD to see such a big organisations like Expedia is not able to manage their hotel reservations well. We booked 2 Cottages using Expedia in Jim Corbett - Jukaso, Manu Maharani for 24th & 25th Night at a very high price.


When we reached at Hotel, The Hotel Travel Desk alongwith their GM - Mr. Manoj Kumar Sharma was clueless when we have shown them the confirm Hotel vouchers. They said that they do not have any tie up with Expedia for the hotel reservation & given us in writing on the Expedia hotel vouchers itself that our booking booking is not confirm.


We were without the Hotel room in Jim Corbett with our family in such a high season, it took us 4 hrs to manage another Hotel property which was far far better than this shabby hotel & in almost half the price Manu Maharani was charging.


It's been 4 days we have not received any service recovery call from EXPEDIA.


So, my suggestion to all is, please avoid using Expedia online Hotel Booking so that you should not face such situation specially when travelling with family.

I booked 2 cottages for Jukaso, Manu Maharani for 24 & 25june 2 nights 8k per night. We reached at 3 and fot to know we were bounced. Understand how will you feel whwn you know corbett is soldout, hotel did not helped out and when I called for help from Expedia callcenter, they just guided ua to their toll free to book another hotel, no help from expedia on struck case.


We were all by our own and it took 5 hrs to search for hotel room and we were stranded with 1 infant and 2 kids below 8 yrs for such a bad time.


I have lost confidance in expedia.


Surperisingly I booked 1 nearby hotel on the same day from MakeMytrip and it all went through smoothly.


So no to Expadia.

I was searching for a hotel at Langkawi on my planned trip along with my wife, I browsed through expedia and it does offer some good quality hotels at cheap prices. I browsed through the website to find some great deals and got an hotel booked at just 4500 INR for 3 nights and 4 days. This site gives you the best price. The site layout is simple and easy to understand, u just need to enter your destination and select dates of your stay and it will list down all the hotels at best price.


It has selected some quality hotels and you will not be disappointed on arrival to the hotel. The hotel which I selected was a wooden house. It provides users with many filters so that you can more easily find the hotels of your choice. So if you are looking to book a hotel look no further and book it on expedia.

I booked ticket from this website for a foreign trip.I must say this website is wonderful in terms of its depth of information.When I was about to book a ticket for Delhi-Moscow and Moscow-delhi,I searched and all information appeared one by one.very clearly it shows all information.I did not face a single problem.I clicked and all data(whether its direct or one stop or how long it will stop between two journeys) appeared.I understand that wherever you want to go,this will give you benefits.Various codes are given to give you iscount.But I must say you should register before purchasing a ticket.Very promply it sends mail and SMS. It also veriifies your passport number.Very swiftly it checks your bank details and takes action accordingly.This site also add packages like hotel booking along with flight booking.I saw that it would give you discount and a huge amount will be decreased if you book the both.It does nott ake long time but on mobile it may take several minutes to open.I recommend.

I have had made this stupid mistake of booking tickets with Expedia .to save mere £10 and faced the consequences like .


The webpage didn't flag that I need to change airports with in the same city when I booked my connecting flights and I had no visa to get out airport . .to connect my other flight from different airport in the same city .


When I called the support for not flag this up during the booking .customer service offered no help, change in the booking or refund .


My entire plan was ruined by this stupid mistake .

I am using hotels.com which is part 9f expedia group since last 3 years but I have very bad experience of customer care while I was in problem and have spent almost sleepless night in ovearseas country thanks to them.


So please beware of hotels.com and expedia as it is managed by bunch of useless and nonsense people witb pathetic service support.


They treat customer as a beggers when you are in trouble. So dont go with Hotels.com and Expedia as when you get struck up, no one will help you and be ready to be on phone on isd line for 3 - 4 hours and then they will ask you to provide proof which some time is not possible as it is made from local no which gives you bill not itemised one. So beware of this bunch of crooks.

I was trying to book two tickets from Shanghai to Taipei, for 4 hours, the website keeping has error message as "we can't process your booking, please try again", I tried for a few hours, still doesn't work.  so, I decided to call expedia.com at 1-800 319-4834(10/25/15 @ 3:23pm), first a guy pick up my phone, tried to book the ticket for me, it still doesn't work, he then cut off the phone.


I call again at 1 - 800 - 397 3342(10/25/15 @4:46), a lady, her name is Princess, she tried to book the ticket for me, it doesn't work, she then told me that my Cred824it card been declined, asked me for another card, I gave her my american express, still she can't book the ticket, she asked me for a third card.  at the same time, I checked my base card, and talk to the Chase card customer service, my card has been charged$14 for seven times,  and my American express has been charge$1 twice, $14 once.


She still could not book the ticket for me, she then transfer my call to a Customer servicer lady, that lady, hang up my phone, because she could not resolve the problem.  I called third time to expedia.com at 1 800 397 3342(10/25/15, 5:09pm), a gentleman told me that their booking system has problem.  this is the only time, Expedia.com admit that their system has problem, instead of told me my Cred824it cards have problems.


I have been wasted more than 5 hours of my Sunday afternoon, trying to book a ticket thru Expedia.com, and it is absloute a nightmare!

Made booking at The Namaskara Residency, Amritsar through Expedia for 22/09/15.  Received comfirmation Stating no confirmation from hotel is required ones booked through Expedia. Reached Amritsar at 1100PM, hotel refused to accept booking and said they have no information about my booking.


When called Expedia they have put me on hold and kept transferring between their staff for 1 and 1/2 hour and failed to provide alternate accommodation. I managed stay on my own spoiling my holiday and endangering my familys safety at late night. Next day when I called the Customer care same drama repeats to put call on hold for 1 hour and escapes by promising call back which never came. This repeated thrice. Now I lost hope of my refund/compensation. Broad day light cheating.

I booked a hotel through Expedia, While booking I selected the Complementary Breakfast & Free Internet, But got booking confirmation with only Free Internet. no Complementary breakfast included!


On highlighting, Expedia customer support Team confirmed the mistake and apologized for this suggested to take the breakfast from the hotel and take the bill which will be reimbursed after producing the bill copy.


When I ask for the confirmation on mail about it. They refused.


I have also send mail to Expedia for record and confirmation. but they have responded once my trip is over, mentioning Complementary Breakfast bill may be reimbursed after due verification on producing the actual bills!


Now comes to the Hotel. Ginger Tree Beach Reasort.


Hotel is not good compared to price I paid for, infact same room was available with less than 50% of the price I paid through Expedia and the Hotel Front desk also offered to 10% more discount on top of this.


Hotel was complete crowded with most pathetic service any hotel can provide,


I ordered for lunch, but after waiting for 45 minutes, they informed us the order can not provided!


Once I ordered for just a cup of Tea in the cafeteria, After waiting for 30 minutes,  I was told that Tea was sent to the room and since nobody was there in the room so it was not delivered!


Now about the Room.


Room is complete filled with spider net on the fan, behind the curtains, near the AC, Balcony. I have taken the snaps. incase some one wants to check.


Towel is with filled with all kinds of marks possible. I have the snaps also for this!


This is the way Expedia is cheating the customer . Pls stay away from Expedia

Off course once you have finalized your destination with the help of tripadvisor.in This site can be called as king among all the travel related portals.


This site will let you book flights, trains, bus, hotels and even cars! Is not it amazing? The simple and smooth graphic user interface engages the user.and it is most likely that you will end up finalizing everything on this site only.as they have great deals too. They have custom made holiday packages which are actually affordable. I will definitely recommend you this.but make sure you surf enough before doing any transaction.:)

I used expedia for booking my hotel reservations when I was going to thailand(bangkok and phuket). When I started booking a hotel rooml in phuket, the prices shown on expedia was INR 7800/- per day with breakfast, and INR 5800/- with out breakfast.


I opted the room option with breakfast which was INR 7800/- per day, for four days. After the booking is  completed, I was surprised to see the confirmation mail, in which the booking is only for the room and breakfast is not included in that( but the amount they have charged me is inclusive of breakfast).


Then immediately I called the expedia customer care and informed them regarding the same, I was surprised with the answer I got from the customer care representative of expedia, here is what he said. " Sir you can go to the trip and pay for your breakfast on your own, we will repay the difference of INR 8000/- once you complete the stay in that hotel and also you should submit the break fast bills".


What I didnt understand is- why should I submit the bills to expedia, If I am paying the breakfast bills on my own. I have asked them to return the money which they have charged me extra, after hours of argument they agreed to return INR 8000/- and they said with in 15 days it will be credited to my account which did not happened. It is about 8 months now they have not credited the amount back, if I call the customer care they just say, that they have transferred the amount( which they didnt do) and when I ask them for the transfer details. they just put me on hold for long hours. I feel these people are highly unprofessional and unethical. These people are doing a daylight robbery.

Expedia.co.in - the place where travel dreams are sold and more often than not, we are fooled by them.


I am writing a detailed review of my experience with Expedia.co.in


I booked flight tickets from Chennai(MAA) to Trichy(TRZ) to depart on 26/07/2015. It was an Air India Express flight. The ticket price was Rs. 1442+ 200 which is Expedia fee. This was a refundable ticket


After 2 hours, I realised that the dates I had booked were wrong and called up Expedia and what happened thereafter is shocking.


Conversation 1: I called up Expedia and explained my problem to them. They told me that they would charge Rs. 300 Expedia charges+ Convenience/Payment Gateway charge of Rs. 200. I told them that I am not willing to pay Expedia so much and asked the representative if I can go to the airline directly and I was advised to do the same.


I went and got my ticket cancelled from the airline and they charged my 25% of the(Basic Fare+ YQ fuel charge)+ Transaction fee. All of these came up to around Rs. 268. I was told by the airline that the money would be sent to Expedia and they would be processing the refund.


Conversation 2: I spoke to Miss Jyothi. She told me she should check with her check with her seniors and get back to me.


Conversation 3: She called me back and told me that the cancellation charges would be Rs.1663 for a Rs. 1642 ticket. It didn't make sense and I asked to speak to her senior. SHe told me that I have to call Expedia and again ask for escalation.


Conversation 4: I called Expedia and spoke to representative called Miss. Nisha and told her that I need my call to be escalated. After putting me on hold for more than 10 minutes, I was told everyone is busy. Miss Nisha volunteered to help me and I explained the problem to her. She told me that the I would be entitled to Rs.1087 after all the deductions. I told her that she can go ahead and cancel my ticket and process the refund. I thanked her and hung up.


Conversation 4: I got a call from Mr Kashif, who suddenly became available and told me that Miss. Nisha was wrong and they cannot issue a refund. I got very agitated at this moment and I asked for an escalation again. I was also repeatedly saying that I have an email from the airline detailing my refund amount. Mr Kashif asked me to forward the email and I would get a reply in 3 days.


I sent them an email with the airline's response.


Email 1: I got a reply from a person named Sunil Rawat. He told me that the refund is not possible because the cancellation charges are more than ticket price.


The break-up that he gave is as follows:




  • Airline Fee - Rs. 13.00




  • Airline taxes and service fees - Rs. 1000.0




  • Expedia cancellation charges - Rs. 300.00 per sector per passenger




  • Convenience Fee - Rs. 200.0






According to the airline website and their cancellation charges are as follows.


25% Of The{Basic Fare+ YQ(Fuel Surcharge)}+ Transaction Fees - More Than 10 Days Prior To Scheduled Departure Of The Flight.


Conversation 5: I called up Expedia after I got an email. My call was escalated to Miss. Jyothi. I tried to make her understand that her representative was wrong in saying that Rs. 1000 will be deducted as Airline taxes and service fees. I told her that I had spoken to the Airline and they also told me that the airline doesn't charge more than 25% of the basic fare+ 25% of the YQ(Fuel Charge). Miss. Jyothi kept on telling me that these are Expedia rules and she cannot do anything. I then asked her to read the email that the airline has sent and she still could agree that 25% of(Basic Fare+ YQ(fuel charge) is not equal to 25% of Basic fare+ Fuel charge. It should be 25% Basic Fare+ 25% YQ.


Then she came up with a bizarre reply saying that its 50% because your departure date is less than 10 days away whereas my departure date is more than a month away.


I was then told that I should wait for 5-7 days for the refund to be processed and if there are any discrepancies they will try to sort out but not promise.


I also had another issue with a different PNR number. They had displayed on the website that in case of a low cost carrier, please go directly to the airline. In another tab, they say that low-cost carrier are not eligible for refunds.


My advise would be to stay away from Expedia at any cost.
