Cnet Reviews

Downloads.com a division of C/net
Jun 14, 2005 08:04 AM 40478 Views

Okay people have written reviews on this product, I DON'T CARE! I want to tell everyone about my personal experience with Download.com. I currently work at home and when I started out, I was in a financial bind. Download.com helped me out considerably. With one particular job, I have to be online the entire time that I am working because the phone calls are routed through my voice line and data line, the problem I had was that I did not have any anti-viral software. Thanks to a close friend on another newsgroup I was led to c|net and its affiliate site and I found anti-virus software AND I picked up some anti-spyware and adware software on the way. Just when I thought that Download.com was getting old (I kept looking for Voice Recognition software) I hit the jackpot. Now, I found some introductory software called TALK IT|TYPE IT, which by the way -- in my honest opinion works much better than my Dragon Naturally Speaking. The Dragon Naturally Speaking could not pick up my dialect and accent for anything.

For those of you out there trying to find software that fits YOUR specific needs, Download.com is a great resource. The only negative about the site is that MOST software items are Free to try, but you have to buy eventually.

But what am I pouting about? NOTHING IN LIFE IS FREE!

Go and download it..

This site was recently brought to my attention via a friend and I have been visiting it quite frequently, it’s a very good download site in my opinion. It’s got so many good sections that it’s actually quite difficult to where to start. Well, the download section isn’t bad and you will the best and most common download files available here, from firewalls, to virus detectors to software like Corel. You can download Games, databases, drives and system files, and a lot more. This section is really something, very compact and you can download most things, from ICQ, to web browser. This section is definitely worth checking out. Well, it doesn’t stop there you can read Hardware and software reviews on the latest products, so you never have to be stuck again.

The reviews are not that bad, and I have been quite impressed. The sections which you can read reviews are Hardware, Electronic, and Software. If you are interested in Tech News this is a great site to make sure your update, with latest news and articles, you won’t miss anything here. You can also build you web site here, by using the Web building section, there are good tips which can help you make a good site. There’s also a very good section on Help and How To, it will help you with any computer problem and help you update your PC. So if you need any hardware help look the section up.

There are so many other great things on this site, like Finance and Investing which is a very good section, keep your portfolio up to date, and have Real Time Stock Quotes waiting for you when you want them. The site is fast and downloading doesn’t take that long, although time does vary depending on the size of the file. The only tip from me is be careful, and be selective you will feel like downloading everything and that will slow your computer down. But, an excellent download site which won’t disappoint. What makes it so good is that it is so complete!

Cnet

I got introduced to the CNET Network via Download.com, which is the one stop site to find any utility there may be to download. It is the one site where I go to when I decide to download any utility. It is a very well designed and well-thought site.

Next comes Builder.com, which contains stuff that may be of good use to the software developers (the so called builders of the NET). The only problem with this site is with the part of article that they put on each page. To go through an article of 30 lines, they make you go through three pages that contain ten lines each. This can be very frustrating in a place like India, where the WWW is well known as the “ World Wide Wait ” !! Otherwise this is a good collection of articles.

Next on the list is Search.com, which is a search engine (not literally). Here you get the results of many well-known search engines all together, at one place. No points for guessing my favourite search engine for the whole Web. There are a variety of sections that you can go into and search. A well designed site again.

Well there is also News.com, which as you must have guessed (intelligent people there) is all about News. The News is divided into various sections, which helps you in getting what you want faster. I get it direct in my Inbox, which saves me the trouble of remembering to visit the site daily.

Well the latest (I hope I am right) addition to the CNET family is the India specific site “ India.cnet.com ”. Since the site has been launched recently, this site has a long way to go before it can get regular visitors.

One of my favourite networks here !! What do you say ?

TECHNOLOGY RULES

”Technology Rules “

Since ages man has been inventing things and the most talk about invention has been Computer. Technology has ruled since ages whether the Pyramids or the Ancient Monuments they all have been constructed using technology but the level was different but the output was same.

Since the era of Internet took over we have been hooked up to this web for ever person like me who spend nearly 16hrs of his day on the Internet is nothing but a sheer passion to have more information to keep up with the face of this information world.

Speaking of Internet and Technology, we all know the most popular thing apart from chatting, email, visiting porn sites, mp3 the most popular downloading.

There are some websites like tucows who are very good for downloading of software but there are 2 sites, which have made their mark and are as popular as Amazon is the Technology Kings Cnet.com and Zdnet.com. Cnet and zdnet now have merged and are under the single banner so starting with the Technology No 1.

Cnet.com

The Cnet Networks Inc manages Cnet.com with public listing on the Nasdaq. The entire group has some list of famous sites

  1. http://www.cnet.com

  2. http://www.zdnet.com

  3. http://www.tv.com

  4. http://www.mysimon.com

Getting back to Cnet.com. Cnet is a complete technology portal with its vast resources of knowledge base right from downloads to the computer reviews and magazines and articles.

Design

The content king Asiacontent managed it and the sites design is really pleasant and very easy for navigation with the font used are very easily readable. The website loads pretty faster than its other partner zdnet.com. Never encountered errors like breaking of page, http errors etc.

Content

Getting back to its basic, Content has been the important source at Cnet. It has got vast resources for all the people who want to know anything in technology.

1. Download

This has been the most used resource at Cnet. You can go directly with this url https://download.com or can go through Cnet.com. You will find all the free software’s listed on the net at Cnet.com. All this software’s are tested at the research centre Cnet and then are rated based on that. It also shows that how many people have downloaded the particular software and also the user rating on that particular software.

2. Auctions

They auctions on the hardware parts and the listed products are obviously in $. Have well pretty good listings on the net.

3. News

You have got the latest technology news. So next time you want to know about new technology news you know were to go.

4. Games

They have really some good games listing and their reviews. The best part at cnet.com is that most of these software and games are being tried and tested at the cnet.com labs are rated by the Technology wiz kids around the world.

Apart from these they have some really good services like testing bandwidths, test the speed of your website and many more. If I start writing all the features of this website, it would become too lengthy and you will really loose the essence of this website. So go ahead check this website.

As Bill Gates has said… “Make your website an “EVERY DAY WEB” “. How true, anything and everything in technology you have it on Cnet.com. I don’t think I need to write on zdnet.com because it’s a absolutely similar to Cnet.com and being a part of the same entity it has been good. Though after the merger both of them has become the biggest Technology Ecommerce Solution Portal on the web. Zdnet has even won many awards. Note: Zdnet is Ziff Davis managed portal and is as good as Cnet.com

Both the website has their local channels. Overall Best Technology portals on the Net.

SO TECHNOLOGY RULES!!!

Cnet has it all! They are just like Microsoft and AOL who are leaders in their field. They have everything from political news to stock quotes. Cnet also owns news.com, download.com and many many others. They have a clean and standard interface which can be very useful. They also have portals for diffrent countries including India where they have versions in Hindi and English! They provide a lot of things and a must in your bookmarks!
