OVERVIEW
Tamil Nadu is a prominent state in India with Chennai at its heart, and it also happens to be the largest city in the state. Earlier the capital city was known as Madras and later the name was changed to Chennai. In terms of area, it is the eleventh biggest state and by population, it is the sixth densely populated state in the country. Even though the official language of the state is Tamil, it consists of people, speaking many other Indian languages.
The state is rated as the sixth in the country in human growth Index and it is the second major economy in the country. The state has the maximum number of business ventures and it ranks second in the total employment in the country. The state is also considered one among the leading developed states in the country and it is ranked seventh among them in the country, derived from multidimensional growth Index.
Tamil Nadu is an abode to several natural resources, religious sites, and historic buildings. Additionally, the people of the state have developed and persisted classical music, classical arts, and classical literature. The innumerable temples of Tamilnadu are themselves are marvellous. The stone carvings of Mahaballipuram, mats of Pattamadai, the paintings of Tanjore, and carvings of Chettinad are famous all across the country.
The best known and one of the most respected classical dance form, Bharatnatyam, and is Tamilnadu’s gift to the great Indian culture. It was originally performed in temples by devdasis. This is a land of Carnatic music, and a birthplace of many music legends. The main musical instruments played here are violin, veena, wooden flute, mridangam, ghatam and nadaswaram.
