Mahesh babu's classic mass movie

Mahesh babu's one of the classic and mass movie.Everybody like this movie with that classic scenes and mass scenes.

For the remake Ajay I have been desperate and I have finally watched the movie with a different kinda outstanding guy like Puneeth Rajkumar I praise him and Nassar for their performances as the next father and son double, Same for Prakash Raj as Vijay with the same comments as I have put down in the first review of Okkadu and mainly for Anuradha Mehta she was the correct woman for Puneeth's love interest as she looked extremely gorgeous and beautiful than Bhoomika Chawla in the first make.Absolutely awesome I priase Mahesh Babu Mukesh Rishi for their performances as father and son, my awesomest vote and reaction that Prakash Raj can fight as he can hit someone with punches and kicks as he has muscle and strength like all the Khans in the bollywood industry Prakash has done a hell of a performance as the main antagonist Obul Reddy the climax at the end was awesome and seeing those fighting moves were awesome as he can fight in a wrestling match or practise training.

One of the best of maheshbabu

At the time of Okkadu release I am attending my SSC exam. I was a big fan of mahesh babu. Due to exams I was unable to see this film on the first day. After once I done my exam I sawed the film. It was superb in those days.

The faction-ism in this picture is well picturized. The Hero, Heroine Charecters designed by the Gunashekahar is simply fantastic.Befor this film mahesh babu doesn't have a big hit. But in this picture he showed his stamina. The music and background score of this film is outstanding done by omanisharma. Prakashraj once again showed his intent as a negative role.Overall thoroughly enjoyed. Even now when it play in television I doesn't miss this movie.

Meaning ... Akela /

The long weekend started very late for us friends. By the time we all friends gathered for a get together, the music was being played with maximum volume and soon all of us were dancing to the tunes of

’’Desi Remix songs’’. We ended our tiring week with a foot tapping number ’’Appudi Podu’’. But soon realised that we are all ready for some more entertainment. Not for dancing this time but for watching. What best a choice than a youthful, rash movie. ’’Okkadu DVD with English subtitles’’ was the only closest one available. After the agreement with all non-telugu speakers, we watched the movie with complete entertainment.

For all non-telugu readers, ’’Okkadu’’ means Akela or Alone. The movie is based on how a single person Ajay (played by Mahesh Babu) tries to protect an innocent girl Swapna (played by Bhumika Chawla, the Tere Naam heroine) from the clutches of the factionist villian Obul (played by Prakash Raj, commissioner Naidu from Khakee) who has the support of one and all including the ruling government and Ajay’s Father. The film starts with the portrayal of Mahesh Babu, an aspiring Kabbadi player and his family’s happy life and his importance in the house. Ajay who is not good at studies plays Kabaddi without his Father, an ACP (played by Mukesh Rishi) being aware.

After a little comedy scenes, the story moves to Kurnool(a town notorius for factionists) where Ajay and his patti rap team come to play Kabbadi tournament. On the other side of the town, Obul’s lust for Swapna angers Swapna’s brothers both of whom get killed by Obul. Left with no other option than to send their daughter away to US (to her Uncle), Swapna’s helpless parents arrange for her runaway from town the same night without the knowledge of Obul. Unfortunately the truck she hides in takes her to Obul’s godowns instead of Hyderabad. Somehow, she manages to run away from the godown but gets caught in the downtown while Ajay unaware of anything about these incidents is jogging around the town preparing for his evening match. By the time he reaches the City Centre, he sees Obul dragging Swapna while the rest are just acting as onlookers. Ajay stops Obul from taking Swapna forcibly and this is the turning point of the movie. Unaware of the aftermath, Ajay runs away with Swapna from that town towards Hyd and makes sure she goes to USA by keeping her in his house in Hyd.

What happens later is not a very big puzzle for regular moviegoers? But why should one watch this movie after knowing the story. Some things you will love to watch than hear. But still...

The director, Gunashekhar, previously worked as an assistant to Ram Gopal Varma. So there is lot of RGV touch in the way the movie is made. Right from dialogues to Camera movements, fight, chase and dance sequences. He made sure that it does not become only a very serious movie on political issues or just a violent love story. He can be credited with humour and portrayal of middle class alongwith some breath taking twists. And more importantly using Kabbadi as the Hero’s game, where many a times you feel like you can come back even if you are the only one left in your team (I played the game all my childhood and can relate).

Music by Mani Sharma is highlight of the movie. Almost all the songs are well picturised and hummable. But my personal favourites are ’’Hare Rama Hare Krishna’’ by Shankar Mahadevan and ’’Saahasam Swasaga’’ by Mallikarjun. The experimentative use of Shreyal Ghoshal’s voice in ’’Attarintiki’’ seems pretty attractive.

Another highlight is the 2 crore rupees set of Charminar as the background for the basti of Hero. It is amazing and worth the money spent.

Mahesh, Bhumika and Prakash Raj, the three main characters have performed as expected.

Mahesh shows more calm yet exuberates confidence required for the role. As one of the few moustache-less heroes in Tollywood, he suits as the young blood. I guess he would be horrible if asked to deliver more dialogues than what he did considering some of his comedy scenes. But otherwise a Devgan type personality with a more cute face. My personal opinion is that his face was more cute for the role in the movie.

Bhumika as the troubled, helpless, innocent Swapna was perfect for the role. Mostly she seems to be afraid all the time with a longing for Ajay. No romantic scene for the two as such but she was good at conveying her desperation while getting to the airport.

Praskash Raj is a versatile actor. He can play any role with ease as if he comes from a drama background. His way of saying ’’I Love you’’ to Bhumika is simply adorable. Overall he gives a good villianous performance with his uncanny expressions.

Wish some producer from Bollywood (oh no, not Satish Kaushik) glances at this review and remakes this classy Telugu movie in Hindi. It is already remade in Tamil as GHILLI featuring Vijay and Trisha.

If you like youthful, energetic, family oreinted yet romantic entertainment, yes this one is for you even though it is a regional movie.

Overall a good family entertainment.

’’Hare Rama Hare Krishna ’’ song from this movie is lifted from Prem Joshua’s song ’’Bolo Hari’’, from the 2001 album Dance of Shakti!

Okkadu- The Number One

OKKADU... a youthful love story intercalated with factionalism, good music, visual effects, photography, action, and performance and is the fascination for all sections of audience. Okkadu has all the ingredients to become a blockbuster.

The film has a cute couple yet not make it look like a dumb Valentine?s card; have adrenaline action and yet not make it look like a potboiler, that makes it a dapper of a movie.

It's a movie that shears across the three basic storylines in Tollywood to come out as an offbeat idea with quaint romance, slick action and a simple storyline. And when Mahesh Babu is there to thrill and Bhumika to charm.. what more can one ask for? Director Gunasekhar lives up to his name of being a classy director. Mahesh Babu plays a daring sportsman who fears none. He suited best to the lead role. Seems to have worked hard for this film! Bhumika as a middle-class girl has done a quite commendable job. Her dubbed voice (Savitha Reddy) is also befitting. Prakash Raj, as we well know, is one of the most promising artists in the Telugu filmdom.

Once again he proves he is the only actor who can justify the role he has played in the movie. The way he tells ?I love you? to Bhumika is really hilarious. The scene in which the hero takes the heroine away from the villain is significantly plausible and comes out fantastic. The escape scene from the Charminar in the midst of Muslim men and women is excellent. The scene used to establish the love of the hero is also appreciable.

It?s Manisharma?s 50th movie and he?s done an outstanding job. The background score, and the songs are brought out with good care and creativity.

The basic storyline of a film is how a man acts as a guard to a lady and saves her from danger. It's a pretty interesting plot. Obul Reddy (Prakash Raj) is a factionist in Kurnool. He falls in love with Swapna (Bhumika). Obul Reddy kills Swapna's brother (Achyut) when he passed a remark about the age difference between Obul Reddy and Swapna. Obul Reddy also kills another brother of Swapna. Horrified by the impending danger, father of Swapna gives her certificates and money and asks Swapna to go to her uncle's place in USA. Obul Reddy catches her when she starts traveling.

Ajay (Mahesh Babu) is a Kabaddi player and is the son of an Assistant Commissioner of Police (Mukesh Rishi). At this juncture, Ajay - who is in Kurnool to play Kabaddi games - rescues Swapna from the hands of Obul Reddy and takes her to Hyderabad. Learning her agony he takes her to his house in Hyderabad and hides her in his room. Ajay, with the help of friends, arranges passport, visa and flight tickets for Swapna. Mean while, the Home Minister (Rajan P Dev) who happens to be the brother of Obul Reddy asks ACP to search for Swapna and the guy who has taken away.

When ACP realizes that it's his own son who did the crime, Ajay and Swapna runs away from his home and hides in Charminar. How Obul Reddy traps the couple again and how Ajay emerges victorious forms the rest of the film..

The last half hour, the post-Airport part, could have been easily dispensed with, but then that still leaves the story without a rousing climax. So there we have a completely redundant grand finale that robs the movie of a half star in the rating.

The performance by Telangana Sakuntala (acted as 'Ramulamma') - the cigar smoking lady don and mother of Prakash Raj is also commendable. She provided entertainment with her typical dialogue deliver and peculiar walking style.

Photography by Sekhar V Joseph is excellent. Cinematography is one of the outstanding aspects of Okkadu. Set work by Ashok Kumar is too good. The set of Charminar, worth 2 crore, is an exact replica of the original. And the devadas kind of set for the last song in this film is also exceptionally good. The sharp editing by Srikar Prasad kept the pace of film in good condition.

Stunts for this film are extraordinary. Sometimes u tend to associate some scenes with the Hollywood film ''Crounching Tiger, Hidden Dragons''. First fight and last fight of the film are extraordinary.

The songs and background music composed by Mani Sharma has a touch of excellence. The songs flow like a dream, and for the first time, you actually hum when the songs are on. Here is the sequence of songs in the film

  1. Hare rama: In this song, Mahesh Babu along with his dancers charms the screen with Charminar in backdrop. Glorifying with good steps, the song depicts ultra modern choreography.

  2. Nuvvemaya Chesavokaani: a typical heroine introduction song shot at some beautiful scenic locations probably at Araku.

  3. Sahasam Swasaga: It?s a situational song where Mahesh Babu escorts Bhumika to Hyderabad with interludes like Bhumika telling about her flashback to Mahesh Babu. The camera work and editing for this song is brilliant.

  4. Cheppave Chirugaali: The sings this song on occation of Swapna?s birthday. The director has taken good care to show all the artists dancing in this film. Excellent song with good class steps.

  5. Hai re hai: This songs is my personal favourite. It starts with a conversation between Mahesh and Bhumika in Charminar and then the location shifts to abroad where Mahesh Babu excites his fans with full-speed steps.

  6. Atharintiki: The song is shot with Mahesh and Bhumika wearing royal dresses in a beautiful Devdas-like sets designed by Ashok.

In South Indian filmfare awards, 2004 most awards from Telugu, went to ''Okkadu'' - best film, best director (Gunasekhar), best actor (Mahesh Babu) and best music director (Mani Sharma). As a whole, ?Okkadu? with all constituents of youthful love story, faction, action, music, sports, sentiments, screenplay, cinematography and much more is worth a watch.
