Smooth.....I guess that is the only only word which does justice while describing the Fusion+. The cabinet itself is a work of
art. Thomson does not believe in cheap exhibitionism by cluttering up the facia with a plethora of buttons and ugly A/V
ports. All there is, is a non descript power button which is hardly noticeable. Push on a transcluscent door and it's opens
slowly & smoothly to reveal all the essential color coded chiclet buttons, AV ports, Headphone socket and operation LED's.
This 29'' has the foot print of a 21'', so that when you upgrade to this marvel, you need not discard your old TV stand. The
Speakers compliment the set perfection and symmetry seems to be the key here. The Fusion seems to exhibit a certain sense
of maturity and restrained elegance not too common amongst it's peers.
Don't let it's civilized looks deceive you, for underneath that elegant exterior lurks a monster which is capable of delivering
whatever it promises...perhaps more. The remote control take a cue from the main set by being simplistic and does not
confound the viewer with a maze of buttons. The on screen menu system is fairy easy to get used to and one does not even
need to consult the manual for this. The program organizer feature can be a boon. It's lets you store and name channels in the
sequence you want without having to reprogram manually. So you can end up stacking similar genres of channels together for
easy navigation.
The picture quality is rather crisp and there is no visible traces of any snowing or double images. The colours seems natural
enough and it does not exhibit any dominant hue (RGB). The images however, are not quite as soft when compared with a
similar Sony or a Panasonic. I guess the Japs score one over the Yanks on that respect. Don't even attempt to view the
Fusion+ in a pitch dark room as you'll be ending up using the set as a strobe light and straining your eyes. This is because the
set uses a significant amount of brightness and contrast to make the images legible.
The sound quiality on the other hand is marvelous and it can rival a mini hi-fi sustem. Apart from non usable features like
NICAM and GermanA2 stereo it has a nifty feature of converting monoural signals into pseudo stereo and conventional
stereo channels can be converted into super wide stereo and it does sound awesome. Pump up the bass and treble using the
sound menu and you'll be able to hear the faintest cymbal and feel the reverberations of the bass guitar pulsating through your
body. If the TV speakers aren't enough for you, you are at liberty to attach TWO sets of surround speakers for a cinematic
effect.
This set has amazing connectivity and you have to glance at the rear to see for yourself. 2A/V in’s (incl. SVHS ports, 1A/V
out and 4 satellite speaker connectors). It has almost every conceivable feature present in today's television sets so I would
not like to waste web space on the same. Thomson probably started the Nationwide craze for big screen TV sets by making
them affordable to the general mass and the Fusion+ 29 goes a long way in establishing their regime. A 5 year warranty is an
indication on the amount of faith the Company has on it's products. All said and done, something as trivial & routine such as
watching TV (which seems to be our national pastime) can be quite an enthralling experience on the Fusion+ 29
