I bought my Onida 29" Oxygen Thunder in 2005 Jan. My experience with this TV is not very good since it had given me lots of troubles in the past.
Before I saw this TV I was all set to buy a Sony simply for their picture quality. I had no other brands in my mind until the sales person advised me to check ONIDA before I decide. He advised me to check out Onida before finalizing on an expensive Sony. The first thing that strikes when u switches this TV on is the sound quality. It has an amazing 1200 Watts PMPO sound system with KY Bass Blaster which is nothing but a pair of extra large Super Woofers which delivers an incredibly deep bass..
When Compared to Sony the sound quality was superb. I didn’t find any other TV with that sound clarity. Picture clarity was just average. The Oxygen is simply superb in its design. An interesting feature about this TV is the Music Mode. This allows you to listen to just the audio without any display. Onida claims that it saves on electricity by a whopping 40%. So finally I decided to go for the Onida Oxygen Thunder. Let me just quickly explain the features of this TV.
- It has a 1200 Watts PMPO sound system with KY Bass Blaster (a pair of extra large Super Woofers which delivers an incredibly deep bass)
- Stereo Playback - Provides clear differentiation between left channel and right channel output to give you clear life like sound and a better acoustic field as opposed to the output from a mono channel.
- Using Multi Surround Modes you can simulate the ideal sound environment
- Bass, Treble, Balance
- Music Mode - This allows you to switch off the picture mode and simply listen to music. Onida claims that it saves on electricity by a whopping 40%.
- Volume lock (I Wonder why people need this option?)
- Tilt Correction
- Digital eye - Digital Eye adjusts the picture depending upon the ambient light condition
- 4 user logins – You can group your favorite channels to 4 different user logins
- DVMC (Still Wonder What that is? – I thought it’s supposed to improve corner to corner picture quality)
- DVD component input
- Digital Remote controller
- Stereo Headphones
- FM Tuner
There was no issue with the TV for the first three months. The trouble started after the 3rd month. The TV started to develop a pink color flood at the top corners. So I called the customer care which was in Ulsoor. It took 2 weeks for them to come and check the TV (considering the distance between customer care and my house is only 2 Kms). First day the person came with some magnetic device and did something and the color flood started expanding. He said he will call his senior and comeback the next day (Which took one more week :-) Finally they figured out the issue and took the TV to their service centre. When they returned the TV the picture tube was replaced and never kept me in the loop. So I sent a mail directly to onida and they provided a replacement TV and I ended up having a refurbished TV which was died in another 2-3 months. So I called the customer care again and they finally gave me a brand new TV which didn’t have FM(Which was fine since it had DVD component input ) and I had my third Onida TV in 3 yrs. The new one also stated to develop a similar problem last month but it is very intermittent.
The one good thing about the TV is the sound quality and apart from that there is nothing good about this TV. The customer care is very lousy and their response time is pathetic. That’s about Onida and I hope it was useful.
- Thank You! We appreciate your effort.
