I'm not sure what all this negative hoopla of Aiwa is about. I mean, I've never had any issues with Aiwa, in fact, it's one of my favorite brands. And well, most of my family and friends agree that it's good. I've had an Aiwa stereo system, Aiwa radio, Aiwa tapeplayer... among countless things, without issue.
My favorite gadget of all of them would have to be the Aiwa vx-s137 vcr/tv combo with stereo..... Back in 2000, when I was just starting college, and my parents and I were buying all the things that I would need while away, we realised that I had no tv. My father offered to by me what I wanted. I didn't have a lot of space, so I wanted something small. But I also didn't want to have to lug a vcr with me, so we opted for a 13'' combo vcr/tv. The big issue was that I had to be able to plug in my ps2 and any other equipment and I wanted stereo. Because as we all know, back then and mostly now, little tvs really only had mono... It might look like 2 speakers, but sound only came from one-side. Picky-picky, yeah.
Anyways, there was only 1 company making a stereo 13'' and that was Aiwa. I've had it ever since and it's still my primary television, cause it works great, sounds great, and is super easy to use. It had front cable connectors (red, yello, white) so I can plug in other video hardware really easily and it even has a front headphone jack! It has one-touch playback and timed-recording. And it's been 5 years and the picture is still as crisp as when I first bought it. Granted now that I have more space and don't use vcr much anymore, I'm opting to get one of those large LCDs with dvi support, but I think I'll keep the Aiwai around for a long time to come.
