Much awaited movie of kamal hassan after the success of Papanasam. Thoongavanam is a thriller family movie which has been released simultaneously in tamil and telugu. The kamal is a  Narcotics Control Bureau officer with Mani(Yugi Sethu) .Kamal finds a narcotics scam done by Vittal Rao(Prakash Raj), drug smuggler. In order to get the narcotics back, vital rao kidnap's kamal son and ask kamal to return the cocaine which he seized with no option available he simply tries to give the back the cocaine and how kamal and his son joined together is the remaining part of the story. Trisha comes as collegue to kamal. The action sequences are good with thrilling suspense in it.

Its an must watchable movie.Suspence thriller mivie.Story rotates around a cop in the field of mafia how he sustains and etc.Thrisha, prakash raj. played an important role.The entire story is just a day story.Asusual kamals action is ultimate.and the finishing song is superb and its the only song in this movie.overall its a nice movie to watch.goo and have a glance of it.

Last week I watched thoongavanam movie it is different all kalam hassan movies.

Kamal hassan has good actor he is doing differnt movies.

Action thiller movie action sences are nice in this film.

There are so many co acters such as trisha, prakeshraj, samanth has done this job.

First half movie is excelnty but second half is bore little bit better than second half.

There are no songs in this movie.Background music is superb .

Over all kamal hassan acting is  so nice he done this great job.

Over all it is good movie you can see with your friends.

Thoongavanam is one more power packed performence by Kamal Sir, we all know about kamal sir, how impressive he is in film direction.

I am big fan of kamal sir, but evrytime when I go to kamal sir's movie I will go without any expectation, then I will get complete feel of thriller. In this movie kamal sir is played a role of officer in narcotics department. he busts 10 criminals who is carrying cocaine. then prakash raj kidnapped his son for the cocaine bag. the story is all about how kamal sir saves his kid from the villains.

I think it is first kamal hasan movie with low budget the movie fully shotted in club but it has a nice screenplay we cant guess what will happen next asussual kamal hasan performence is awsome comedy is good action in second half is too good even kamal hasen has only 3 costumes in movie he is looking nice lip locks in second half is very funny the boy played as son acted very well

Thoongavanam is a crime thriller movie.Another power packed performance from kamal, I am a big fan of him.you can't xpect anything more from the movie it is totally paisa vasool.kamal n Trisha are lead actors.prakash Raj n sampath are villians.

From intro scene to climax it is a thrilling experience.power packed performance from all actors after so many days I watched a diffrent movie.

We always seen the kamal in different roles and he always do the experimental films in anyone part of the movie.Strictly saying this movie is not south movie but it is like hollywood type narration.

The story is kamal is an officer who robs cocaine from praksh raj and prakash has to deliver to someone so he kidnaps kamal son how he resues his son forms the rest of the story.

Action parts are excellent and they are well designed.Acting of kamal is not to mention because he is always a gem.Other co stars did good job according to their roles.

Cinematography and background music is good and opts the scenes well.

Direction is also good with no side tracks and deviation in the film without any unnecessary elements.

If you are a regular masala movie lover it will not satisfy you fully but it has elements of suspense, thrill and action elements to it best.

Thoonga Vanam: My Review

Kamal Hassan is one of my favorite personalities in Indian screen, for the brilliancy his movies have; the ones he make and the ones he act!

And, Thoonga Vanam is something that has his hands on both, writing and acting; even that perfection can be seen throughout the film.

Primarily, the movie has got  a gripping storyline and Kamal Hassan has a made the wafer thin plot into an engaging cinematic experience with his racy screenplay and such a screenplay is executed in a much racier way be Rajesh M Selva.

The making was so perfect and realistic that, the viewer can feel himself inside the plot, experiencing the thrill of characters. Kudos to the stunt directors for offering two of the most realistic hand on hand fight scenes in the recent times.

But, a sparkling script on paper requires performances of sheer brilliance to make it an engaging watch; this is where the ensemble set of actors including Kamal Hassan, Praksh Raj, Trisha Krishnan, Kishore, Sampath Raj and many more make their mark! The acting side has got one of the best performances this year with Kamal taking the lead. The baddies Prakash Raj& Sampath Raj, though had their usual roles, made them feel much different with non linear way of presentation; Trisha Krishnan had a much different role from the type she usually does, and it was much more interesting than her previous ones, she did even well at the fight scenes. Apart from them, Kishore’d intense performance and Madhu Shalini’s role were good! Those kissing scenes were surprisingly awesome! While all these factors prevail, it is the sense of reality that makes Thoonga Vanam one of the best thrillers in the recent years, there is one particular scene where a wounded part of Kamal hits the handle of door and in the following scene, the pain of that easily unnoticeable touch was seen on his face; such was the perfection and reality! Even dialogues were of superior quality and, the blend of humor that comes momentarily requires applause!

Go for it, and you are gonna get a 2 hour long edge of the seat thrill!

The hero kamal hasan win again to entertain his veiwers. Its a one night story bt all tbe scens are taked superb.its not a boring film and a action thriller suspence movie. So your time and money will not lose for watching this film .  Its surely everyone can enjoy .suprb film

It is the best action movie these days to watch and its an awesome suspense thriller!As his experience got more he perfomance well in any character.really hatsoff to him and his dedication.i can  say I am very much entertained by watching this movie.will get more exited after break and it has some great gripping to attract the audience.this the feast to kamal fans and every one will love it.screenplay and direction is awesome and no draw backs.the locations were so wonderful and by watching them on screen will get an amazing experience of watching a hollywood movie and thrill.plot is awesome and every movement will be a climax scene.enjoy by watching it with your family.

Thoongavanam with kamalhasan in the lead role is one of the best movie of him.it is a thriller film particularly kamal sir did well in his role.it is also made in telugu as cheekati rajyam where it is going to be raleased 20 of this month.its has madhushalini in a role and trisha as the lead role

Well usually I select to go for movie form lot of options to choose from.  But this Diwali, since there were only two releases - kamal's "Thoongavanam" and Ajith's "Vedhalam".

Since I already knew from my brother's sources that Thala's Vedhalam is not so impressive, so with no other option, we decided to go for Thoongavanam.

We booked the ticket with Luxe Theater at Pheonix mall. Velachery on 15th morning 9 am show, as all other shows were full(booked on Diwali).  It was Raining on Diwali day too an hence we could not go on that Day. But 15th morning, the rain was even more!  First we thought of cancelling, but later jumped into our car and reached Luxe by 9am exactly.!  The Road were all water logged and it was amazing experience reaching the theater from home!

Why Thoogavanam -

The first Reason I what I have mentioned in the first para.  The other reason is, i basically love movies involving Crimes, Kidnapping, extortion and stuff like that.  And since it was Kamal's movie, I had lot of hope that the movie would be like "Unnai pol Oruvan".

Film Genre -

Its basically a Drug Crime Thriller which includes some real life Humor.  The movie involves stuff like - Gangster, Drugs, Gun firing, Pub Cultures and Kidnapping.

Plot/Story -

The story can usually be spotted with many Hollywood movies.  But is new with Indian Audience.  I watch a lots of Hollywood movies and hence this movie was no new to me.

The Story about How Good cop like Diwakar and Mallika plan to nab drug dealers like Vittal Rao & Pedha Babu but how the good cops are interfered with bad cops like Draviyam & mani and how Diwali solves the case by rescuing his Kidnapped son, Vasu from Rao form the rest of the Story.

The Story does not have lots of Twists and turns but has some simple ones.

The Story and the movie is inspired from "2011 French film Sleepless Night(Nuit Blanche)".  I am yet to watch the French Version soon.

Casting -

Well there is not much Casting in the movie, only 4 to 5 of them have big roles and all others are just short come and goes.

1) Kamal hassan as CK Diwakar, an Officer with NCB(Often Credited as CKD) -  The only best in the movie is Kamal I would say.  Well I am not a fan of Kamal or any other actor, but kamal really has the Realistic acting.  Awesome Performance by this Legend Again.  He shows the pain, love and Anger in a real professional way.   I love that in him!

2) Trisha as Mallika, an deputy with NCB - Wow, Trisha looks awesome in coat and pants.  She just looks like a Detective in the movie.  I loved her Body Language to the fullest.  A good mature performance by Trisha after a long time.  She really looks like a Narcotics Cop.

3) Prakash Raj as Vittal Rao, Drug Dealer and Bar Owner - He is an another legend for sure.  What even role is stuffed to him, he gives the fullest just like Nassar and Sathyaraj.   In that Coat Suit, he really looks like an Drug Dealer in the movie.  Just missed him saying "Challam" in the movie.!:(

4) Kishore as Dhiraviyam, Senior officer with NCB - Kishore is best suited for doing Cop Roles though he used to to Villainous role before.  But in this movie he does a job of Bad cop which is a mixture of both!  I loved his performance again after Aarambam.

All Other Characters though had short roles, had given their good, like Sampath doing the role of Gangster & Jagan as rude care taker.

And Ofcourse kamal needed someone for Kissing and for this Telugu Sizzling actress "Madhu Shalini" is utilized!

Other than this, the one which gives the color to the movie is the Pub girls.

Direction, Production and presentation -

Well Production of the movie is said to be as whooping as 30 Crores! but after watching the movie, i think the budget is not more than 5 crores max!   The Whole movies is shot Indoors, just inside 4 walls of rooms.  Only two shots were shot on highway.  It is said that the movie set was erected at Ramoji Film City resembling a "Pub".  And The pub girls and guys shown the movie are mostly belonging to Hyderabad and picked up from pubs like Bottle & chimney, Liquids, spoil and Kismat.

The Direction I guess did not involve much stress at all.  No Rain Shots, No moving shots and so on.  So I think Mr.Rajesh had very simple job here.  Not that Impressive because of very little hard work I suppose.

But the Presentation was Good enough to please Audience for a one time watch and that is what is need for movies to survive in Theater and I guess Rajesh and Kamal team has did that precisely.

Soundtrack -

Well basically the movie has only one song "Neeye Unakku Raja", which is sung Kamal as well. The song come as the End Credits with showcases the making and goofs in the movie as well.  But the BMG/OST in the movie was very irritating.  Full of Pub songs and Music which was very irritating though.

The Song was good but the BMG was not impressive for Ghibran.

What I liked in the movie -

• The realistic Acting in the movie resembling Hollywood flick like "Bullet Shells", "expressing the pain for a Scratch", "ID cards for Officers" and Stuff like that.  I really like such movies which doesn't have fake graphics with bullets flying, Cars skidding round, fight masters jumping at 30 meters height and so on.

  
  




• Not much Songs in the movie just in the movies like Papanasam and Unnaipol oruvan.   Songs are really boring with most of the movies these days.  Movies like Baahubali, Jeans are Exceptional.

  
  




• Movie with Simple Twists and not much Confusions.  So all Audience can understand the movie well.

  
  

Mistakes in the movie -

No. I did not find much Mistakes in the movie except a very few which is negligible.  Some of them are -

• Kamal passed through AC vent from Ladies toilet to Gents Toilet.  Well Who said Toilet based AC vents are that big when a person can Crawl easily.  At least Bruce Willis crawling inside a AC Vent in Die hard was little Acceptable but we can see how low crawling he was in the Vent.!

  
  




• Well when Kamal, kishore, Prakash Raj get into Ladies toilet, the Ladies shout like anything and ask them to get out every-time!   But Trisha gets into Gents Toilet without any Criticism!  Woa!

  
  




• Well Rao(Prakash Raj) asks CKD(Kamal) to return bad the BROWN bad full of drug to get his son bag.  But CKD, some how looses the bag.  And hence he goes to Kitchen and prepared some fake bundles of drug Packets filled with Wheat Flour and fills them in a BLACK BAG and gets back to return the bag to Rao!  Well during the very first shot of the movie CKD and mani block two of rao's men on road and steal the Drugs from them.  One is killed and another escapes.   Why not the Escaped one could have told Rao that the bag was a brown bag!  And if that would have happened. then how Rao could accept a black back from CKD later on!

  
  

Viewers discretion -

I don't think the movie is suitable for all ages.  The movie is definitely not suitable for kids below the age of 15.  Even the Teens/guys/girls from age of 12 to 22 would get spoiled by watching this movie with full of pub culture.  Hence, Viewer discretion Advised.

VERDICT -

Overall, the movie is a usual one for audience who love watching Hollywood Crime movies and Serials like NCIS and Five-O. But for other Tamil Audience, this movie would be a good to go.  A Good Different treat for All the die hard Kamal Fans. The movie is Watchable only once.

I am Giving four Stars just for Kamal's performance and Realistic Movie Sequences.

Thoongavanam and vedalam were the two movies released for Diwali 2015, I got the opportunity to watch these two movies back to back at sk marlin cinemas guindy and the funny thing is the seats were same for both the movies, I have already given my review on  vedalam movie .

THOONGAVANAM STORY:

Two corrupted police officers ck diwakar( kamal hassan) and mani( yugi sethu) robs 10klo cocaine from the associates of a drug lord vital( prakash raj), soon vital kidnaps ck diwakar only son and asks him to handover the cocaine to him in exchange for his son in the mean time vital is under pressure to deliver that cocaine to someone at higher level to his business

So when diwakar goes to return that cocaine to vital everything gets messy and things go in an unexpected way when two other officers from bureau trisha and her colleague kishore investigates diwakar and the rest of the story is how diwakar rescues his son and escapes the consequences .

The good stuff:

Screenplay has been really good the rntire firsy half is highly engaging and keeps you entertained throughout with humour and serious tone, action scenes are thrilling and realistic, there is a particular action scene shot in the kitchen that deserves an applause.

Every actor in thr film gave a great performance throughout the movie .Music scored by gibran deserves a special mention  , there are no songs in the movie, bgm( back ground music) is excellent and lifts the mood of the film .The entire movie has been shot in a night club and the story takes place in one night which added a thrilling note to the movie .

The bad stuff:

Second half should have been a bit better, it was not thrilling as first half other than that there is nothing bad about the movie

Verdict:

After the much hyped and failed movie like uthama villain kamal hassan chose the a thriller subject which is racy and keeps you entertained with its humour, almost everything is good about the movie, I have enjoyed watching thoongavanam and I am sure you will too.

Kamal Haasan's Thoonga Vanam is an adaptation of Frederic Jardin's French thrillerSleepless Night.

Directed by Kamal's long-time associate, Rajesh M Selva, the film revolves around the cocaine mafia and Narcotic Bureau.

The film opens with an exciting drug heist staged by two senior officers CK Dhiwakar( Kamal) and Mani( Yugi Sethu) .  They flee with over 10 kilos of cocaine but their joy is shortlived.

Dhiwakar's young son is kidnapped by Vital Rao( Prakash Raj), a dangerous drug dealer, who is under pressure to deliver the drugs to someone higher in the chain.

Dhiwakar is now desperate to return the drugs and free his son. But redemption is not easy and he gets sucked deeper and deeper into the mess. He gets investigated by two other officers of the bureau, Mallika( Trisha) and her colleague( Kishore) .

With both the good and bad guys after him, Dhiwakar is slowly running out of time.

Almost the entire film has been shot inside a nightclub, where everyone appears to be chasing the other, without any success. Most of the fight sequences are shot in the kitchen.

Thoonga Vanam is definitely not your regular thriller.

Lets be honest Kamal sir has nothing to prove to anyone but still he keeps pushing the boundaries. After the success of Papanasam he couldn't have chosen a better movie then Thoogavanam to come back on screen. The movie grips you from the word go and takes you by surprise every now and then.

The plot is set in such a way that many characters are forced to meet under on roof in one night which leads to various surprise elements. But at the end of the movie all you want to know is if Kamal(Diwakar) was successful in rescuing his son from Prakash Raj(Vitall).

A movie having a start cast of Kamal Hassan, Prakash Raj, Kishore, Sampath, Yugi, Asha Sharath and many more is expected to special and that is what Thoongavanam is.

The best part about Thoongavanam is the screenplay which is written by Kamal Sir himself. It was a tricky one because you are supporting Diwakar without knowing if he is the good guy and this is the gamble that pays of very well.

Thoogavanam was a challenge not only for the actors but also for the cameraman, art director and the Music Director.

Ghibran deserves a special mention for his BGM which just adds to the suspense of the movie. He is truly one of the stars of the movie.

There is no point saying how good Kamal and Prakash Raj were in the movie, when ever they were on the screen together it was a pure joy to watch. The chemistry between the two actors showed on what a different league they are altogether.

By now I guess Kishore and Sampath can play the roles of cops and gangsters in there sleep. Both of them looked very comfortable in the roles which weren't new to them. Asha Sharath is in just three scenes but she sure leaves an impact. Coming to Trisha it has to be her best performance till date, she plays the rookie cop to perfection(lookout for her fight scene with Kamal).

The first half of the movie is excellent Director Rajesh makes sure he sets up for the things to come without much fuzz and makes sure the movie never drifts from its main plot. The way in which Rajesh introduces every character in the movie is fascinating. Unlike the first half the second half of the movie does have flaws but one is willing to overlook them for the effort put in. Also there could be a debate if it was necessary to prolong the movie(even though only by 5 mins) after the main plot was over.

Overall Thoongavanam is a movie that one must not miss.

A thriller with multiple villains, but with one goal - to save his son . The film was well taken with perfect screenplay and story, but few characters can be avoided their absence wouldn't have affected movie.

Even though its a thriller there are few sentiment scenes fitted perfectly in the play. notable point is that there are no songs in the movie. We can predict the next scene/move that's y I called it once watchable. If other movie which got released didnot do well then it will be a blockbluster one. kamal fans dont miss it , must watch for u guys!

ThoongaVanam is a forthcoming 2015 Tamil neo-noir wrongdoing thriller film coordinated by Rajesh M. Selva featuring Kamal Hassan, Trisha, Prakash Raj, Kishore and Asha Sarath. The film, which was all the while shot in Telugu as Cheekati Rajyam with the same cast, was together delivered by Raaj Kamal Films International and Sri Gokulam Movies. The film is an adjustment of the 2011 French film Sleepless Night(French: Nuit Blanche).

The trailer in itself is a smooth adaptation of a class thriller combined with components of activity and high strain. We get the chance to see Kamal flex his muscles in some harsh activity scenes; something we haven't seen our "Ulaganayagan" do in a while. What's more, it is a flat out treat to watch.

Furthermore, Apart from Kamal, the action-thriller also has Trisha and Prakash Raj in prominent roles. Trisha as his accomplice just crests the enthusiasm in the matter of how long her part will be in the film. There's firearms, there's auto pursues, there's running with Ghibran's throbbing foundation score - all components characteristic of an immaculate activity flick. The trailer certainly gives us enough footage to reach the conclusion that the film will be a feline and-mouse pursue to the end.

Thoonga Vanam is an upcoming Tamil Indian action thriller film directed by Rajesh M Selva. The film starring by Kamal Hassan, Trisha, Prakash Raj, Kishore and Asha Sarath. The official trailer of the movie has been launched.

The film is an official remake of French movie Sleepless night released in 2011.  I had watch the trailer and it is a great work by superstar Kamal Hasan.

The film is released in both tamil and telgu languages. The film is expected to releas in november 2015. After watching the trailer I am sure that it will be a great movie for the year 2015. I am waitng for release of movie. It will be a fully paisa vasool movie. I recommended you all to watch it atleast once. So get ready for november.
