This tablet is insane, Volume, screen lock and power controls on the Apple new iPad are still in the same locations as with its previous tablet, and they all feel just as secure or clicky as before. The new iPad(a.k.a iPad 3 or iPad 3rd gen) brings huge improvements to the best-seller iPad 2. Apple managed to pull off an amazing feat by quadrupling the resolution of the screen to a whopping 2048 x 1536 pixels, while keeping the screen size the same at 9.7 inches. With so many pixels packed into a relatively small screen, its very hard to distinguish between individual pixels, thereby giving you a fantastic viewing experience on a tablet, be it for reading, playing games or watching a video. To power such a hiDPI display, the iPad 3 is packed with the A5X chipset, which includes quad-core graphics. Processor remains the same 1GHz dual-core ARM Cortex A9. The camera at the back is now upgraded from the pitiful sensor on the iPad 2 to a 5 megapixel autofocus unit, which takes 1080p HD videos too. But there's little scope for photography in the dark as there's no LED flash. Connectivity-wise, the iPad 3 supports 4G(LTE) bands(which unfortunately works only in certain countries, India currently not being one of them). But still, it supports 3G speeds of up to a whopping 42 Mbps. Despite being packed with such a high-resolution display and all other power-hungry internals, the iPad 3 still manages to have the same impressive run-time of 10 hours. This was possible because the iPad 3's battery is 70 percent larger than its predecessor. Thus, the weight and thickness of the iPad 3 are actually a little more than of the iPad 2.

The iPad 3 was Apple's first Retina screen iPad. The quality of the screen is mesmerizing and still stands the test of time by looking great two years after launch. It's also well-designed and robust, with users happy with the way it looks.

One of the primary problems with the iPad 3 is its size and weight. Android tablets have been getting better and better and now compete with the iPad. Apple has rectified this with the iPad Air, which will match the iPad mini 2 in design.

Performance of the iPad 3 is solid and, happily the advent of iOS 7 hasn't caused the dreaded slowdown on the iPad 3, it still runs well.

If there's a couple of areas the iPad 3 suffers it's battery life and value for money. Battery life is reasonable solid but not outstanding. You'll get a full day's use out of it but if you're using 3g that will reduce significantly. It also takes a fair bit of time to recharge meaning you won't be able to blast it for half an hour before you leave the house.

A couple of other things to consider if you're looking to buy and iPad 3 second hand is that it uses the old style 21 pin Apple connector as opposed to the new Lightning one. That means that if you have an iPhone 5S, 5C or 5 you'll have to use different chargers.

I use an Apple iPad about 6 to 8 hours a day. My main reasons for updating were that I literally fill up my 32 GIG iPad every day or two with videos and photos that I shoot. Having this larger version at 128 GIG allows me to work longer and add more to my iPad. In addition this new version is much lighter and easier to use all day long. Even though the battery is smaller in capacity than my iPad the battery life is longer and it is very noticeable. This is because the faster A7 CPU and the motion chip actually use less power.

I immediately noticed the increase in speed. The unit connects to the WIFI faster, synchs with iTunes faster, downloads emails faster and speeds up your web browsing. The differences are very noticeable and enjoyable as a user. The dual speakers are a nice change but I also use a lot of Bluetooth speakers to enhance the sound of the iPad.

In my video I do a size and weight comparison to an iPad 2, an iPad 3 and the iPad Air. I also show how the basic set up takes place and for advanced users you can just speed through that portion of the video.
