Worst antivirus ever !!
Mar 31, 2018 04:34 PM 695 Views (via Android App)

I've bought McAfee VirusScan in July 2017 with one year subscription. McAfee VirusScan comes with a real-time scanning, schedule scan, vulnerability scanned, shredder, Defragmenter, etc.

Firstly, I've been using it Windows 10 and I found so many problems like deleting some some .exe files which are much necessary, Steam files and some DirectX files.

Secondly, when I installed Windows 7 Ultimate and gone for McAfee VirusScan, I found that it's not installed correctly leading to termination when double-clicked to open it. And due to it, my pc gets slow.

I'm still having subscription but I'll not use it because it's a malware for my pc. I'll not recommended that. Thank you.

Best in the market
Oct 13, 2017 10:31 AM 1358 Views (via Android App)

Hi friends, I am using this software from past 6-7 months, earlier I was using Windows defender but still my laptop got infected with malware attack. My review is under :

I purchased this antivirus at 470 rupee, which may be slightly on higher side as compared to other antivirus in market but its features are worth this price.

Its very easy to install, by doing simple installation process from CD.It is easy to use & its interface user friendly. It keeps on running in background and automatically detects viruses & malware.In these 6-7 months, I have not received any virus / malware / trojan effect on PC though I transfer a lot of data via pen drive or hard drives.

Another best feature is two way firewall for extended protection.Battery performance which usually gets effected by other antivirus, is not at all effected by this product.

Complimentary mobile proctection is provided along with this laptop verison.Overall I do recommend this software for daily purpose.

Reasons for not buying McAfee
Apr 11, 2016 06:13 PM 2944 Views

Recently I installed McAfee in my desktop computer just to see how it works. Unfortunately, I did not like its performance at all. First of all, I discovered that it uses up plenty of system memory almost unnecessarily. As a result of this unnecessary activity, your computer will fail to perform at its optimum level. Most importantly, I noticed that it’s not effective when it comes to the task of identifying and removing deadly computer viruses. The worst thing is that McAfee sometimes misses simple things and remains idle as a mute spectator. Believe me or not, I quickly realized that my free Avast antivirus used to be a lot effective for my computer in comparison to this much advertised McAfee antivirus.

I felt that the interface of McAfee is also a bit complicated. Moreover, the installation process is pretty problematic, and hence, will consume a lot of your precious time. Finally, once installed in your computer, you will have to deal with plenty of unnecessary notifications from McAfee. Therefore, for all these reasons, I opted again for the antivirus which was previously installed in my computer without any hesitation.

One of the worst Antivirous
Jan 24, 2016 11:50 AM 3349 Views

I have this antivirus from my Dell Inspiron Laptop as free one for 15 months, But after 2-3 months of use I felt that this Antivirus is weak to scan Powerful virus which come off from Pendrive/External Storage. Also I felt that some of the apps which are create Trojan most often the third party application is not been deleted.

So I decided to remove the antivirus, even though when you download the Adobe Flash Player you have to download suspiciously this glimsy thing to have.

Please don't refer this Antivirus to anyone this is not a good one.

Complete insurance to your PC
Jan 22, 2016 02:53 PM 3328 Views

Mcafee ensures complete insurance to your PC

McAfee utilizes a few strategies to recognize infections, even in compacted document chronicles. VirusScan cautions you quickly of risk and gives a few alternatives to cleaning your PC and illuminating others.

VirusScan gives on-interest outputs of all circles and records. You can likewise arrange this part to filter for boot records, boot segments and framework documents infections at every framework reboot and shutdown.VShield additionally examines floppy circles, email connections, downloaded documents and Web pages with Java or ActiveX.

VirusScan incorporates an adaptation of McAfee.com's Safe and Sound, Safe and Sound is valuable when you confront an infection that VirusScan can recognize yet can't clean. In such a case, you can restore the latest form which is not tainted. Another vital component of Mcafee is Quarantine. At the point when a few documents are contaminated with infection and these records can't be erased then Mcafee detaches them from whatever is left of the records to prevent the infection from spreading

The most recent adaptation highlights support for Windows 2000 and Windows Me. Mcafee gives exceptional insurance against all infections and trojan stallions

All computer users now have to deal with the threat of computer viruses, worms and malware sent in hidden files from various sources.  To address these viruses there are a number of anti-virus programs available to computer users.My Internet Service Provider(ISP) provides its subscribers a free of charge subscription to McAfee.  This is the main anti-virus program I use.  It has a good reputation but I still have some concerns with it.

I have scheduled a weekly, full scan of my computer using the McAfee software.  The full scan of all my programs and files takes up to eight hours to run and during the time it is running all my programs and computer processes slow down quite dramatically.  This can be annoying so I avoid using my computer during the full scan.  There is also a period every morning when I first access my computer that McAfee searches online for updates and during this period my computer processes aso slow down.

Another concern I have with McAfee is it sometimes misses malware programs.  I only find they are on my system by going to the Control Panel and checking to make sure that there are no suspect programs downloaded onto my computer.  When they appear, I have to manually uninstall them to protect my files.

Unusual worst antivirus....
Dec 14, 2015 05:52 PM 3299 Views

I don't know why This software is already installed in new laptops. I think this antivirus is worst and no use in any laptop. When I bought my new laptop, I found that this McAfee antivirus was pre installed, and it was creating many problems like opens automatically, and show unusual notifications of my running tasks, that's why I uninstalled it next day and Install other one.

Seriously, I saw my friends also not using this antivirus. Even one day one of my bought new laptop and the first task he did was unistalling this software.So, guys finally I will suggest you all that don't ever use this antivirus as it is waste to use . No improvement in laptop .just go for another one.

Bought it as it was cheap, found it ineffective
Jul 15, 2015 08:48 AM 4227 Views

I had taken McAfee Virus Scan for my daughter's table-top PC as it was availabe for Rs 99 for 1 year: she is in primary school, and her PC has no sensitive data anyway.

So I decided to buy McAfee as it was cheap

Big mistake

McAfee is not only cheap, but ineffective as well. Not by accident, but by design.

On google Chrome my kids started getting a warning "your flash player is out of date, please upgrade". This was suspicious, as flash player is integrated with Google chrome and no downloads are needed.

Raised Service Request # 1778514697

After wasting over an hour in chat and sessions with McAfee "chat support", a McAfee susp application to detect suspect files was run. And I was told to contact the virus removal centre at 1800 425 2353 or online, for further action. The chat support was closed.{ Chat session ID 4845701778514697 dated 14/07/2015}

Turned out that the Virus Removal Centre will charge me over 300% the money of the original purchase, to "clean" my PC.

I uninstalled McAfee, having burnt time and money on 2 months "protection" that was worthless. I installed the earlier antivirus, with a 3 year renewal, and the problem disappeared.

McAfee is cheap and a trap, in my view. Once you are in the trap, your viruses will not be blocked: enough are allowed to penetrate so that you can have the pleasure of paying more money  for the Virus removal service.

Excellent antivirus product
Jun 26, 2015 10:36 PM 4091 Views

McAfee VirusScan. Excellent product in the market to save your laptop / mobile from all kind of attacks. Best feature is it has it's own protection mechanism to save it's own file system. i.e.

Even though any virus wants, it can not change or delete the files and registry entries. Once the product is installed, it can be installed only by the user who have the proper credentials to uninstall it.

This antivirus do not consume much of memory at run time. so the virus processing do not impact other programs running in the machine.

I have been using mcafee antivirus for past 4-5 years, and till date have a very satisfactory result. It stops the virus attack on the spot while doing internet surfing and attaching any external memory device to the machine. worth spending money on it.

I had downloaded mcafree virus scan online. As I dont like to pay offline and buy such softwares.I would say it is one of the best antivirus among all the antivirus in the market.

MCafree anti virus scans all the viruses, cleans all the software.I am using this software in my lapti=op as well as my pc. Thought it slows down the pc or lappy but it does not allow any virus or torjan to be there .Even when  we attack a pendrive it first scans the pendrive for any malicious stuff in it.It protects well from the outside world of laptop.

McaFRee Anitvirus has made my mind free as well as lappy free from such a malicious stuffs.

Review on McAfee VirusScan
Apr 26, 2015 09:59 PM 4780 Views

My Organization uses this Antivirus since many years in all of their systems, like, Desktops, Laptops, Servers etc. Even I have been using this product since last 2 years in my personal laptop. It has various features like Access Protection, On-Delivery Email Scanner, Unwanted Programs Policy and On-Access Scanner which keeps scanning and monitoring for incoming thread and on virus attack and trojans.

It also has an auto update feature which download the latest DAT File - Updated Protection file from McAfee Server and keeps our system upto date.

Being in IT for many years and using all licensed and approved product always, I always been questioned and requested on cleaning virus on my friends desktops / laptops sometime even pen drives. I'm so confident about this product as one my any infected pen drive connects to my system, the pen drive can be considered as clean for sure and I straight away connect any infected pen drive or HDD to my system without any fear as I am having the Antivirus which handles anything and evrything.

I am using McAfee Anti virus since about two years. It blocks unknown e-mail worms. It also scans inbound e-mail, outbound e-mail, and IM attachments. It has detailed virus database and world map. My PC is very much cleaned just because of McAfee Virus Scan. Version 9.0 of McAfee VirusScan enhances the program's efficiency and level of protection. Cons: Specific areas of improvement include better handling of large e-mail attachments and blocking.

Beware, Mcafee has secret auto renewal function
May 27, 2008 01:52 PM 11031 Views

Beware, all u out there, mcafee has this auto renewal thingie for its internet security suite. So if u r not careful, after one year you will get the same bill charged on your credit card account. And customer care says that it was all written in the terms & conditions. Now tell me guys who realy reads the terms & conditions for software products??? I tell you these mcafee is a big fraud, their software doesnt even detect the simplest of virusus. All in all mcafee has turned out to be a great pain for me, so I just want to pass on this information to anyone who might be interested.

The worst part is that mcafee asks you to pay for virus removal service even when you already might be having a licensed veriuson of its anti-virus or internet security. So if your computer gets infected, which it probably will, considering you r using mcafee, u will have no other option but to format all your hard drives. this is something u will never want, so please guys think twice before using mcafee products , they are of no use whatsoever.

Like its archrival Norton AntiVirus (NAV) 2003, McAfee VirusScan 7.0 automatically downloads up-to-date virus definitions from the Internet; provides a cogent, lucid interface that's quick to navigate; squashes malicious scripts, worms, viruses, and other digital miscreants; and is reasonably priced at about $50. Unlike NAV 2003, VirusScan 7.0 has superior technical support and faster scanning times, and it comes with a firewall--essential for anyone with an always-on DSL or cable-modem Net connection. Although it's a tad less slick-looking than NAV 2003, VirusScan 7.0 is a fine first-time antivirus choice for any Windows user. Current VirusScan users who use Outlook Express or Eudora will want the new features for those apps and should take advantage of the $29.99 upgrade, while current Outlook users should pass for now. Choosing between NAV 2003 and VirusScan 7.0? No need to switch if you already run NAV, but if you're picking for the first time, go with VirusScan.

Norton Vs. McAfee
Apr 04, 2002 11:02 PM 26545 Views

Before we get down to deciding which anti-virus is better, a little bit of history.....

1981 - The First Virus In The Wild

The first virus in the wild was spread on Apple II floppy disks (which contained the operating system) and reputed to have spread from Texas A&M University. The virus was named Elk Cloner and displayed a little rhyme on the screen:

It will get on all your disks

It will infiltrate your chips

Yes it's Cloner!

It will stick to you like glue

It will modify ram too

Send in the Cloner!

The common story on the origin of virus is that two brothers from Pakistan (Now why am I not surprised!) analysed the boot sector of a floppy disk and developed a method of infecting it with a virus dubbed ''Brain'' (the origin is generally accepted but not absolutely). Because it spread widely on the popular MS-DOS PC system this is typically called the first computer virus; even though it was predated by the Apple II virus.

Coming back to choosing which of the two: Norton or McAfee is better?

Norton :

(I like to play with fonts! don't you just love those cute stars above and below Norton!!)

Norton Antivirus (NAV) can seek out and stomp worms harder than the cruellest kid (ok..bad analogy)

The latest version has a simple interface and provides some additional protection against e-mail and script-based nasties. If you're new to the antivirus game, purchase NAV 2002 ASAP. But if you already have Norton AntiVirus 2001, pass on this upgrade, unless you're migrating to XP (Which sucks big time and I will take it apart in another review), and pay $20 for another year's worth of virus definitions.

(Note: All prices are in Australian Dollars)

In previous versions, the main program window contained eight lines of text that described every detail of the program's functions--whether the autoprotect feature was on and when your last virus update took place, for example. Norton AntiVirus 2002 trades in all this text for a panel of self-explanatory indicators that clue you in to what's going on with your system (think car dashboard...good analogy!). For example, a green indicator displays the time of your last scan.

You don't have to configure NAV 2002 much at all--a fact that beginners will appreciate. NAV still automatically scans e-mail attachments, but you can no longer select which e-mail accounts it scans; it scans all of them or none. Also, NAV 2002 has made it tougher to schedule a virus scan for a later time and date: the scheduling feature has lost its prominent position on the first screen of NAV and sits at the bottom of the scanning page instead, the poor thing!

And NAV 2002 has some new tricks up its sleeve: it still sniffs out viruses in incoming e-mail attachments (as NAV 2001 did), and now it checks outgoing attachments, too, so you can rest assured that you're not infecting others. Since some of the most noxious worms, such as SirCam, replicate via e-mail without the sender's knowledge, this improvement is particularly appreciated.

The new Script Blocking feature promises to block script-based viruses, such as the I Love You bug, before they do damage, even if Symantec hasn't identified them yet. Want to scan a specific file on your PC? No problem: 2002 integrates with Windows Explorer so that when you right-click any file, one of the options in the pop-up menu lets you scan for viruses.

Despite these improvements, NAV still doesn't keep you informed as it scans. You get a nice summary after NAV has worked its magic, but during the process, NAV doesn't tell you how many files it's scanning or how much time it will take, unlike its major competitor, McAfee VirusScan.

NAV 2002 automatically repairs an infected file (or, if it can't, quarantines the file), and alerts you only after it's both found and fixed the problem. This may sound like a minor point, but for beginners, it's reassuring to know that the software has already taken care of the job.

Version 2002 still lacks one significant feature: unlike McAfee VirusScan, NAV 2002 doesn't sniff out viruses packed in ZIP files downloaded from the Internet.

Like its ancestors, NAV 2002 relies on the excellent LiveUpdate, which checks the Symantec site for updated virus definitions every four hours (assuming you're online), so, unless you catch a virus seconds after it hits the Web, NAV is probably already up-to-date and ready to repel the most recent viruses. Norton AntiVirus automatically downloads available virus definition updates and installs them in the background.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
McAfee Virus Scan
(Yep, been playing with the stars again!)
VirusScan's antivirus software now comes bundled with a basic personal firewall to make your machine invisible to hackers. That way, if the worst does occur, it'll block a Trojan horse's signals and keep it from taking control of the PC. No other standalone antivirus package includes this additional protection. McAfee's firewall is good but doesn't offer anything you can't get free from ZoneAlarm (https://zonealarm.com/) or Tiny Personal Firewall (https://tinysoftware.com/pwall.php)
VirusScan guards against all kinds of intruders, including viruses, worms, Trojan horses, and--on the Web-- ActiveX Controls or Java applets, which can execute malicious commands without your knowledge. When it detects an anomaly, VirusScan pops up an alert and gives you a chance to either delete or fix the infected file or quarantine it in a lockbox where it can't make mischief. Unfortunately, you have to drop what you're doing to handle the intrusion.
The HAWK feature (for Hostile Activity Watch Kernel) monitors Outlook (the Typhoid Mary of computer virus carriers : I?m getting better at analogies!!) for suspicious behaviour, then warns you when, for instance, an e-mail message is about to be sent to more than 40 recipients. It's a clever way to detect and stop mass-mailing worms such as I Love You and SirCam. VirusScan also protects your PC against nasties that might sneak onto your desktop from your Palm or Windows CE handheld during synchronization. Still, VirusScan lags behind Norton AntiVirus in some key areas, such as monitoring active scripts for Visual Basic or JavaScript for possible mischief.
At $75, McAfee's VirusScan is a bargain for a complete antivirus package. However, its performance is so-so with real-world viruses. But if you really want a firewall alongside your antivirus program, spend $90 for Norton and install a free firewall such as ZoneAlarm.
So, I would personally use Norton, but would also prefer to use the cheaper pirated versions!!!
Comments and Brickbats awaited!
