It's nice product it's gots of halp good product I will to buy the product ??Despite these things, Eclipse really is a great IDE. Its refactoring tooling works tremendously well. . All of features we've come to expect of an IDE are their(code completion, templates, integration with various SCMSs, integration with build systems). Its code formatting and cleanup tools are very powerful.

Best IDE for a beginner java developer.
Dec 22, 2021 12:01 PM910 Views

As a core java developer when I started coding I found it very easy to understand the IDE because of it simple User Interface. Its a well known and respected Integrated Development Environment(IDE) developed by the eclipse foundation. Biggest benefit of using it aids in development process by providing the following key features:

1)An easy to use graphical interface that navigates through your code hierarchy.

2)Syntax Highlighting that displays source code in color code format to improve readability.

3)Code completion that makes recommendations on mehods and parameters as you type.

4)Recommendations on how to fix errors and automatic error correction.

5)A graphical debugger that allows line by line code inspection

6)Single key compilation and execution of a program.

7)Automatic code generation for commonly used pattern.

8)Integration for Source code version controlled Repository.

These are several benefits to the experienced and beginner programmers .but still I also recommend the beginners to not use IDE in early stages when you just start coding like for at least first month so as to get used to basic programming structure. Once you understand the basic structure the Eclipse IDE will be a very powerful tool to speed up your application development.

Sharing my personal Experiences I have used many tools that Eclipse IDE offers like ease of using tomcat servers just by giving its dependency on the POM.XML files or just by adding it as an external JAR file in the build path of the IDE properties. And features like using Spring framework just by doing few clicks. And the most impressive feature is that it supports vast API like APARCHE and JAVAX mail ITEXTPDF which are very powerful while developing applications that are mostly use in developing a very basic INVOICE generation/certificate generation application. It also gives us the advantages of using Jersey Rest and RestEasy just by adding some dependency in POM.XML file and easy make a web-app which can perform POST and GET operations and by using service we can Share a java application with rest of the world just by using an HTTP:/ link .I'm really enjoying writing beautiful piece of codes in Eclipse .

PROS:

1)It's a free of cost.

2)Easy to use

3)Large number of API support

4)Supports tons of plugin(example-Helix plugin P4Eclipse)

5)It provides Modelling Support

6)Great tool to handle larger Projects

7)Lots of Debugging features.

CONS:

1)It sometimes tends to run slower than other ide's like Netbeans.

2)Documentation feature is so difficult that it is often not used many times.

3)Sometimes it feels live its very clunky and is taking a lot of processing power.

3)Starting up time is is little bit large .

4)Very limited Themes Support.

5)Not so prepared to support other languages than JAVA.

Superb IDE and Simple user Interface
Jul 24, 2017 09:50 PM1649 Views

Currently I am completing my Advance Java through Eclipse Java IDE. I like its user interface most. It is easy to use and run java applications. Shortcut Keys in eclipse are unbelievable. You can write System.out.print in easy way by pressing Ctrl+ Space after "syso" and many more.

There is various types of libraries available. I never bored using this IDE. It is available in different type like eclipse Java ee developer, Eclipse for PHP developer, Eclipse for Tester etc. You can download this IDE from this link https://eclipse.org

Try this IDE. It is best for all purposes.

Built Your Own Application Using JAVA
Jun 12, 2017 11:43 PM2226 Views

As we know the Java is the most secure language . Almost banking and business website its running on JVM(Java Virtual Machine) . The Eclipse is the front end of Java Language here you can built your own desktop software or your website.

Its have a lot of versions when you go to the download like Helios, Marses, Juno etc. But the my suggestion use the Eclipse IDE version Marses 2.0+ . This software support the not only Core Java, Servlet, JSP but more than this you can use in this IDE like Hibernate, Spring, Struts these technology . Some time other version not support this 3 technology so my suggestion you use the Eclipse Marses .

This is professionally use for built application if you want to get custom Layout for desktop application just click on help option and go to the market one popup window displayed there you see lot of extension just download the AWT component . Just click on install and after a few minutes software is restart and you can get your all extension here so you can design your desktop application easily.

This same procedure you need to do if you want to use new technology in your Eclipse IDE and after download check right side one small square icon you see name platform there you get your new technology after selection you see there little changes and your technology now ready to use.

Features is very good you can easy download new Technology as well as you can update it.

Before you install this software you need to install JDK that you get in any random java site just download and install . You can easily install just followed that next steps simple. If you have IDE download then no problem.

These things you need to follow and its really important else chances you lost your project.

Note:

1.Keep your software and technology is updated.

2.When your coding is finish you right click on your project and close it.

3.When you create your server using TomCat don't delete it because when you delete and trying to create new server so this IDE never give you chance to create same name Server .(solution change your work space).

4.When you exit form your IDE save your all data .

Don't take it seriously just you need to do visit javatopint website and you get basic details and start your working on Eclipse IDE enjoy coding .

Eclipse equals Java
May 25, 2016 02:34 PM3416 Views

Eclipse is a must have IDE for any aspiring Java Developer. It is a very mandatory tool for even the most experienced of Java Developers .  It is very user friendly. Any layman can become a Java Developer if he knows a basic idea of programming languages .

Eclipse IDE   is very helpful in debugging errors. It is mostly automated. We can create web services very easily without the need for developing a client service manually. Also it has a inbuilt browser for testing web services.

There are many version of eclipse like Galileo, Helios, Indigo, Juno, Kepler, Luna, Mars and more. It is a free software, you can easily use it on your computer without paying any cost. It helps me while developing my academic projects during my academic study. Its saves your time while writing and running a java programs and it better to run program on eclipse than command prompt. Overall it is a best software for programmer and I like it.

Really Good For Programmers
Jun 29, 2015 05:36 PM5611 Views

Eclipse IDE is the best Integrated Development Environment. I am using Eclipse Juno. It is very useful for me for developing projects.

This can developer Mobile Application, Web Application, Enterprise Application, Desktop Application etc. I am using this for developing Web Application. I just have to create a Dynamic Web project and it loads all the required jars create folders for me and also create a sample web.xml file for me.

This is helpful for developing the web application from scratch to the deployment. It also deploy the project so that I just have to loads it to my web server and my site will be up and running. It supports all the framework and servers. I am using Struts and Hibernate Framework and Tomcat Server 7.

Eclispse IDE - Plugins
May 01, 2015 10:10 AM5582 Views

I am software developer and find this IDE very helpful . I am using this IDE from last 8 years or when I started my professional career. You can easily configure your new plugins as it is open source and anyone can create  plugins or add plugins with ease. As there are lots of plugins available.

It saves the times and gives a developer a flexibility to configure server and database. I find this very usefull while developing anything and I am using and fond of eclipse. It is also mentioned by IBM which is always believed to be developer friendly.

Help provided by eclipse ide is in great and minute details. It does not need to be installed just have a zip and unzip it and add plugins.

I have been using Eclipse IDE for last 2 years for Java programming and I can ensure you that you can't find a better IDE than this. It's simple, free and is loaded with many powerfull features. Help section is great too and you can solve many of your problems from there.

I have been using it my office for selenium test case development and this tool has made my life a lot too easier. I would recommend to everyone who wants to do programming in Java.

Eclipse - could be great if it wasn't so broken
Jul 07, 2013 05:47 AM2889 Views

I have been using Eclipse for over 5 years - both for pure Java and for Android development, both on Windows and Mac OS X.

The reason for using it for so long was not because it's the best - it's because it's been the only supported option I had. Only now, Google starts supporting Intelli Idea for Android as the new Android Studio, so a reasonable alternative starts to emerge.

The Eclipse IDE is heavy with features. You could theoretically extend it with any feature you ever want, via highly-scalable plugin system. The internet is loaded with plugins, and extend Eclipse into a multi-language, multi-platform monster.

The code assisting, refactoring and template features are very helpful - when they work.

The part when Eclipse really sucks comes to actual product values.

This is a BROKEN product, and it has been like for years and years.

No matter how many versions this IDE iterates through, the core product philosophy never seems to change - a broken, buggy, unstable IDE is released to the public and creates a lot of hard work for developers who try to use it.

I've experienced every possible bug in this IDE, sometimes in very ridiculous ways, that made me wonder whether someone actually tested this software in an organized way. It doesn't feel like that - considering my experience with very stable IDEs, like Visual Studio.

Constant crashes, freezes, display bugs, even EDITING BUGS that screw up your code in front of your eyes - stuff like that can make you go nuts at times.

Eclipse has a "Restart" button in its main menu, which is a weird feature for a software that is supposed to run and keep running. Why is that? Maybe because it's so damn unstable and unpredictable, that you're supposed to restart it every hour?

Getting technical support for solving Eclipse issues is a chore. People don't seem to know what the hell is going on, so a lot of times, the accepted Stack Overflow solution is "I restarted Eclipse and then it worked".

Sometimes, the Eclipse forums give you a complicated solution, like "edit XYZ files, restart, then change this URL in the setting" - stuff like that which is not something I'm even supposed to know as an end-user of a product.

I do not recommend Eclipse, unless this is you only supported option for a particular platform.

Once google finalizes Android Studio and it becomes a wide-spread product, I'll gladly switch to it.

Java Developers Guide
Sep 14, 2009 10:56 AM6231 Views

Eclipse has received much fanfare and accolades because of its powerful Java development environment(JDE). That — coupled with the team environment and other base capabilities — makes Eclipse a compelling integrated development environment(IDE), which is great news for Java developers. Moreover, Eclipse is an open source project. But what makes Eclipse truly exciting is the extension possibilities it offers.

A number of commercially available Eclipse-based products show the practical implications of this way of delivering integrated products. IBM® WebSphere® Application Developer and Rational® XDE, for example, demonstrate the impact that Eclipse has already had. These products and others based on Eclipse diminish the user's learning curve because of their similar UI. Sure, this is valuable to large software houses, but what's in it for the little guy?

That's where the extensibility story of Eclipse gets interesting. Not just integration for those who have large development organizations but also for anyone willing to invest some time in learning a few Eclipse frameworks. "Oh no, " you may be thinking. "Not more frameworks. I don't have the time to learn more frameworks." Don't worry — it will be quick and fairly easy. And before that little voice in your head has time to say it, no, this article will not be a trivial Hello World extension of Eclipse. Rest assured, you'll see practical value and a clear demonstration of how you can enhance your productive use of Eclipse's JDE. You may even be a little surprised to see that it takes only a few dozen lines of code to do some fairly amazing things.

WSAD --eclipse with websphere server
Oct 22, 2005 04:16 PM6714 Views

I have been working on java technologies.I have been using eclipse for development totally.I tried some other tools but felt that eclipse is far better than them.I want to tell you about WSAD from IBM which has websphere as inbuilt server in eclipse. We can create servers then do deployment of our code in to the server and check it.It also supports Struts and other basic frameworks. We have different persepectives to switch over.

The main advantage I felt while using it are

  1. debug mode-I can create break points and find the place where error is occurring easily using breakpoints. As we have Websphere server in it ,it becomes easy to find the problems which occur in the server after deployment.

2.The output which is shown by running WSAD is same as the output which comes after deployment in Websphere server(used for production). So all the deployment issues can be known in advance in the time of development.

3.Creation of EAR file far easy from the current project and it can be deployed into the server.

4.We can create multiple servers and then run them simultaneously .

5.We can also have weblogic and other server configured instead of websphere.

Eclipse eclipses the world by storm
Sep 21, 2005 12:27 PM6290 Views

Eclipse the programmer IDE that is taking the world by storm as most leading majors in the IT industry are switching to eclipse technology. Eclipse is more than an IDE, its a platform on its own, many applications have been developed using the Eclipse platform. For eg, Azureus, the robust and the best BitTorrent client that I have used is programmed using the eclipse platform. As far as the IDE is concerned it offers more functionality than its similar commercial counterparts could offer. The user friendly UI is the most appreciable thing of Eclipse. The most interesting thing about Eclipse is that it has been completely written in Java without using even a single line of AWT code ( AWT is the API that is used to bring the GUI using Java). The rendering of the GUI is done rather natively that by the JRE which make eclipse faster than its Java based counterparts like Netbeans, JEdit etc. Also eclipse with its plugin-based architecture allows a great deal of flexibility to add new components for different purposes. With this eclipse can also be used for C++ development using the CDT plugin and so on. It also provides many useful features like content-assist, refactoring, quick fix of common errors etc. I would very well recommend to any developer about eclipse. Eclipse being FREE does not mean that there any compromise in the quality of the product. It can be rated as the best IDE ever developed, with a horde of functionality with it.

PROLOG

Let me make a confession. I am a sucker for excellent tools. I Love to do coding. I love to use technology. As a habit,I enjoy fiddling with the latest tools and technologies.

One fine day, I ended up downloading Eclipse IDE for it was an open source. After a breezy installation and few programs later, there was no turning back. Eclipse has eclipsed many tools I would have used. I yearn for intelligent tools doing rapid application development to reduce development time, for the projects I work. Eclipse is certainly one of those tools.

Eclipse has won me personal praises as well as it reduced my development time (Especially the Unit Testing) dramatically with its sleek interface. Without further adieu, let me take you to Eclipse.

Introduction (01010101)

Eclipse (https://eclipse.org) is an Open Source Development environment, pioneered originally by IBM’s Object Technology Inc (OTI).

It is often rumored in IBM that OTI acquisition is the best ever M&A IBM has done so far (Some of you may want to compare the acquisition of Rational Inc also). OTI is “the authority” in Object Oriented Programming and wrote the Visual Age for Java in Smalltalk. Eclipse started off on a small note and ended up being the best of the lot. Thanks to innovativeness of OTI, Eclipse, which was written in Java is tremendously fast and its UI is somewhat of an unbelievable one, for an application written in Java.

After the acquisition, IBM has donated the project to https://eclipse.org. Since then, eclipse is an open source project managed by a committee. Eclipse.org has many subprojects to make Eclipse a better product. Albeit being a Java based development platform, QNX has released a C/C++ IDE for eclipse as well. Eclipse.org has a sub project for COBOL as well.

One great thing about Eclipse is the ease of adding plug-ins and the features you get for your development environment.

Eclipse IDE comes up with the following tools to be plugged in

  1. Visual Editor – Can be used for visual GUI development

  2. EMF - Eclipse Modeling Framework. This is a Java/XML based development framework.

  3. UML2 –EMF based UML development

  4. Hyades – A testing framework

  5. C/C++ & COBOL IDEs

  6. Technology plug-ins such as CME, ECESIS, WSVT, AspectJ, Equinox, Koi, XSD etc

Apart from these, a whole lot of plug-ins can be had from https://eclipse-plugins.2y.net/eclipse/index.jsp

SMALLTALK on BASIC SCHEME of Eclipse

Eclipse for me has been a great friend. I guess I can call that. Sometime back, I was in a high speed, complex development effort. The idea was to use a .NET environment or a J2EE environment. FINALLY, J2EE won over .NET. We lost a great development tool Visual Studio. We decided to use Eclipse for our development efforts.

After we started off, we found that there are innumerous tools available for Eclipse to assist every possible way. Eclipse is a darling amongst open source community and development picked up momentum from the moment Go. There was no turning back and it was a breeze all along. We did encounter some issues but they were quite OK compared to the benefits. Here is my analysis

UI – 4 Stars

The UI is great when you consider it was written in Java. You can extend it using the SWT (Standard Widget Toolkit), it is based on. It comes with a tabbed pane philosophy and is easily navigable. You have innumerous ways to use the UI. I had no issues except for a couple of lost in the jungle situations. Eclipse IDE was developed using SWT and Jface.

Debugging – 5 Stars

The debugging was as smooth as it can get. This is where we reduced a lot of effort. It is one of the most inventive debugger I have used.

Ask any J2EE developer and you will hear about issues surrounding EJBs. For us it was a smooth flow as we used Glider for Eclipse platform and we were debugging EJBs in our own machine without a deployment. :- )

Navigability – 3.5 stars

It is easily navigable and is a star when it comes to ease of use. You can navigate by class, hierarchy, package and projects

Plug-in Support – 5 stars

This is the best feature none of the IDEs support. Eclipse plug-in addition is a breeze and you can write a plug-in or two yourselves. The architecture of Eclipse lets you do all additions in few steps.

Language Support - 4 Stars

Eclipse is primarily a Java based IDE and it’s version for other languages are being created. (It is not like EMACS, yet!)

Development Features – 5 stars

Eclipse lets you add additional development tools such as ANT, JET, JUnit etc. You can add XML Formatting tools et al, to make it an excellent one stop development tool.

Eclipse offers incremental compilation, Search facilities, Remote debugging on any platform compliant VM, Comprehensive view of stacks and threads, runtime value modification (I Love this feature!), Local history replacements.

You also have a simple To-do list that reminds you about all tasks you need to perform. I liked it a bunch.

Refactoring – 5 Stars

Refactoring is a great feature in Eclipse. It lets you do all refactoring, without writing a single line of code. This is great and you can do all the changes done at the click of a button and do the incremental compilation at the same time. Same applies to Formatting. You create your template and let Eclipse take care of all formatting. Just do format source.

Portability - 4 Stars

Eclipse IDE is available in many platforms (Mac OS also). I have used three flavors (Win2K, Sun and HP-UX). I felt it was alike in all three environments. We ended up loading a copy in our Win2K machines for development environment, connecting to a CVS running in a Source forge like Corporate CVS repository.

CONS

  1. Slower loading time, compared to Visual Studio (Faster than other Java IDEs)

  2. Some great plug-ins are not free

  3. Lesser accepted in corporations having no Open Source tools policy

  4. Memory Usage can be a little clumsier sometimes (Very rare)

  5. Refactoring is sometimes slower, if the project is huge. (You cannot do package level refactoring)

  6. You tend to forget about functionalities and APIs (It kind of makes you dumb as everything is available, if you include it). Duh!

C onclusion

My love affair with Eclipse is somewhat eternal. I use it so much that I ended up writing my reviews in Eclipse IDE once upon a time (My United Airlines one). Eclipse has halved our development effort. Eclipse is going to be the future, along with Java. There will be two major players in the computing world. MS and its tools and Java/Eclipse and its tools.

Use Eclipse. May the Source be with You

I Hope you liked this review. Do RRC if time permits
