Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai is the only serial I watch regularly, it airs on Star Plus Mon-Fri 9:30 PM. Its been running for almost a year now, its highly popular and I would say the best serial currently on air.
The story revolves around Akshara, a girl from a traditional family in Udaipur, how her marriage is arranged with Naitik, and what happens after her marriage. This serial has convincingly shown every little thing that goes on in a marriage. From searching a guy for marriage to the actual marriage itself, everything is shown in detail.
If you have missed the show, don't worry, the story till now is, Akshara gets married to Naitik :) there is nothing more to the story actually, but there are a few things which make this serial stand out..
Firstly, there are no typical 100% bad characters or the 100% good devi mas, every character is like how normal people are with normal emotions, whether be it the innocent Akshara or her overly anxious mom, her wise dadi, or Naitik's highly protective and possessive mom, my favorite is Naitik's strict dada ji (Almost every house has a dada ji I feel :P ), even though the characters are cliched they are real to some extent!
Secondly, there is some logic to the whole serial, unlike all the other serials out there, nothing is just thrown in to get TRPs, the makers have maintained a certain charm from day 1. Some of the things shown in the serial are stupid in this day and age, but considering that they have shown the two families to be extremely orthodox, it is still OKAY!!
Thirdly, I like the fact that the makers have incorporated all the festivals into the serial, 3/4 th of the serial 's time is spent by celebrating all the small and big festivals!! The two families prepare for a festival and then celebrate! Some gyaan about the festival is given by the wise dadi or the adorable bhabi maa, and before you know it a week has gone by!!
My problem with the serial is its extremely slow pace and its very predictable story, I kind of liked watching this serial in spite of all these things, but now it has become boring!!
One character I dislike is Naitik's, he is incredibly stupid, from day 1 all he is been doing is getting mad at Akshara and later asking sorry, lol, dude when will you grow up? From the time they have been married this is what has been happening, they both fight and he asks sorry and she forgives him, its been going on and on and on, but I have been told that, this is what happens in a real marriage!! :P
I am seriously fed up, I am losing interest by the day, these days I cant watch the whole serial, I just catch the last five minutes, I don't know when I will stop doing that also, either they have to end the serial or make it more interesting some how!!
