Though I try my best to make her think otherwise, my mom never seems to
comprehend how in the whole wide world a 20 plus years old can stoop down to
watching cartoons. Not quite sure how many of u think the same but I beg to differ.
It’s an altogether different world, one of fantasy and enchantment where the possibilities are boundless. There are absolutely no horizons. For me it’s like a refreshing cool breeze on a hot summer day of monotonous reality.
I do agree-most of them cater to the <10 age group but animated stuff do exist for the all ages category. Well I’d like to make a point here. People may disagree on just about anything from the copulating rituals of the Komodo dragon to whether the Americans really did land on the moon. Could u please lead me to someone who dislikes Tom and Jerry? What say?
All right then, lets get down to business. X MEN EVOLUTION is one such all ages flick. (Yes the movies were based on the cartoons of marvel Inc.)
Its about a group of super humans with mutated X genes giving them unique extraordinary strengths. The core of the story line goes like this- the good ones prof.xaviers institute for the ‘talented’ try save the earth from crooks, megalomaniacs and the like (so whats new.eh? believe me, it is) and also from their own rivals who under the leadership of the incredibly powerful magneto and mystique want all normal humans eliminated from the face of the earth. Completing the triad are the fbi/cia/secret service/nsg (whatever) agents who see the mutant race as a threat to mankind.
Starting with the intro and evolution of a character each episode, the series is a fabulous treat to the senses. The shock, surprise, trauma, agony, self control, will, the feeling of being a freak and what all this means to a high school teen who one fine day discovers the talent is depicted with such finesse. No detail whatsoever has been overlooked.
Then begin the adventures and the classy twists and turns, delving into the roots of the xmen and their startling relation to each other.
The animation is the best I’ve ever seen. Drawn with exquisite precision, every character stands out on its own.
Wolverine’s untamed rawness, Storm’s larger than life figure, Jean’s sultry, captivating looks, Cyclops’ rock star frame, Shadow cats' sweet young kitten demeanor, Night crawler’s devilish mischievousness, Spyke’s stinging high school charm, Rouge’s tomboyish recklessness, and the man himself-Xavier’s wise guy world leader aura are captured with such breathtaking perfection. The villains don’t lag behind either. Magneto, Juggernaut, Mystique, Quicksilver, Toad and the others add to the brilliant screenplay, carving their own niches.
The music is sharp, upto the mark and the dubbing, picture perfect.
The episodes centering around the one in which the institute blows up are the best of the lot. Riveting edge of the seat stuff. A surefire don’t miss.
X men evolution appears on all 7 days at 4(4.30?)pm ,8pm ,and 11pm ist on cartoon network. How can u beat that?!
Believe it or not ,this crazy fan(that’s me) has missed x men for almost 3 weeks now and maybe much longer, thanks to the conditional access system being imposed on chennai’s peaceful unsuspecting cable lovers. As the metropolis is being held ransom to unscrupulous bureaucrats and cable wallas , and the past generation satisfied with grindingly yeeaachy tamil soaps, ppl like me are the worst hit. A pity . maybe there still is life beyond the cable noose! Ha ! Ha! (Man, i'm not that bad)
So u guys out there, if any of u can find cds/dvds on x men evolution- the animated series, please mail me. U would’ve saved a dying man. Thanks.
