Okay, so the third instalment of the series is out. And as it happens all the time for some strange reason the final (no more X-men after this it seems) outing is not able to live up to the hype and expectations created by the previous two in the series. It happened with Matrix also with The Terminator but the saving grace here is that atleast this is not as bad, infact not at all bad but a bit inferior (or should I say different) to previous ones. Storyline is a bit shaky, humor punching one liners are missing and most of the new characters seem too comical. Unlike the other two emotions have not been granted much space in the script and instead of the narrative story building and a small introduction to a new character we get direct to action entry for most of them, no history, kindly excuse us. Well that was on the cards, wasn't it, director is not the same, Mr. Ratner has replaced Mr. Singer for this one. But I tell you its a perfect summer action punch, watch it enjoy it and stay thrilled for a few days kind of stuff. Trust me you won't regret your money for the ticket n popcorn if you are action thirsty. May be later u may want to add it to your cd/dvd library for the collection purpose.
Lets move on with the story a bit, I am taking the liberty and assuming that you have actually followed the previous ones. Now there is a cure(homo sapiens termed mutation as a disease !) for mutants and government is offering vaccination for those who are willing to, voluntarily of course. So where is the problem, well Magneto thinks that disease is not Mutation but Human Race itself is a disease, so what they wanna do, eliminate them ! And as always Prof. Xavier n company are against him. So there is a clash for supremacy between the two teams, good vs evil. By the way, unlike the first two parts, humans are well armoured against mutants this time and are no more mere mute spectators. They have dart guns with the vaccine, and my my you shoot it and within seconds mutant will change to a normal human being, cured, PHEW ! And yup, they say time is the greatest teacher of all, so we have plastic guns, Magneto can't disarm us ! The whole story is been weaved around this baseline and as you are aware stories in action thrillers are just to provide basement to fill action sequences one after the other.
Opening sequence is a direct copy from Die Another Day, may be Matrix as well where we have computer generated virtual training session, the difference is, its mutant style here, was okay. Also inclusion of a lot of new mutants appeared to be work overdone. All those who were disappointed after part-2, good news, Jean is back and with a bang, the most powerful mutant ever filmed in the series. Check it out whose side is she. A few more new entries couple of them are quite interesting, but Beast actually disappointed, was useless and unnecessary. And there were great action sequences, one when Magneto rescued Mystique, Magneto again when he puts up the bridge, then the new entrant Multiple Man(can actually replicate himself any number of times) against the army, ShadowCat against Juggernaut, Wolverine in Jungle and Magneto, Pyro and Iceman in the climax. And yes, Angel(mutant with wings to fly) has also earned a 3 second cheers and loud claps during the climax. Paisa wasool !
Dialoguewise, the best one liner (there are not many, disappointment) should be when Magneto says to Wolverine: 'You'll never learn', and Wolverine replied: 'I've learned', don't want to spoil the fun by disclosing the situation, check it out, i'm sure you'll enjoy it.
Movie is extremely fast paced except a few jerks in between and it will make you run after it once starts. Sound effects are too good, its nowadays a global standard probably with thrillers. Overall, photography is also very good with beautiful locations and detailed backgrounds, just a little evidently animated a couple of times.
On the shortcomings side, many other mutants were introduced, used once or twice here and there and been eliminated in the climax, which was not justified on their part, they could had been used in some real sense as they were actually interesting. Also there are not many details provided which will leave you with many unanswered questions in the end. But please don't bother about the storyline to enjoy it to the fullest, just make sure you give your hundred percent to the action sequences, they are the real visual treat !
Two thumbs up from me for no nonsense action. May be i'm a little biased but I love this whole concept of mutation so much. Also even if there is another sequel coming, this is your last chance to catch Prof. Xavier, Jean and Mystique.
