Battle between the sexes probably started after Beelzebub intruded Garden of Eden and added spice to otherwise bland life of Adam and Eve. Adam started blaming Eve for everything going wrong in the world, and Eve started cribbing about Adam being too detached and callous. With every passing day, the list of allegations grew leaps and bounds.
In “Why men don’t listen and women can’t read maps”, Allan and Barbara Peasehave tried to present a rationale of how men and women are different coz that’s the way God wanted them to be.
I bought this book on an impulse in a Book fair. I had a row with a friend of mine that day and I was sulking because of that. I was perplexed at his behavior, so I thought of giving this book a shot and see how men think.
Yes!!! The feeling is mutual. We women also find men very complex.
The book opens with an introductory incident highlighting the difference of opinions that a couple has. And then onwards starts a string of analysis, judgments, surveys on the most complicated species of the Mother Nature’s Creations.
I simply loved the statement, “Men and women are different. Not better or worse, just different.” The authors have tried to assert this thought with supporting evidences. Men and women are different coz their brains are wired that way. Their chemical balance is like that. The cleverly written chapters of this book slowly weave their way into the reader's mind and drive home this point.
Some great mysteries of humankind are unraveled and answered in this infotainer piece of writing.

This is a very gripping book, mainly because it is very well written and a balance of opinions is maintained throughout. Not even once do the authors deviate from the basic purpose and idea of the whole book.
“Why men don’t listen…” does not present any biased picture of either men or women. Everything is written based on some scientific facts and thorough research and surveys conducted by the authors. And best part is that it has humorous touch to it which makes otherwise so controversial topic a lighter one without offending either of the sexes.
Generally, I don’t read behavioral books, coz I have strong views regarding them. According to me, human behavior is just too complex to be judged by a single person or may be a group of people. Many factors attribute in shaping the human nature – external factors like circumstances, people around and internal/personal factors like anatomical, physiological and chemical. It’s very difficult to actually put in words how a person should be in an ideal condition, coz according to me, ideal conditions never exist. But after reading this book I realized that not everything has to be put be viewed and analyzed under a microscope. If authors/researchers have a way of presenting their thoughts, it can make a good and positive impact on people. This book had it on me… I have become more forgiving for erratic behavior of my men friends, coz now I know to some extent the way they might be thinking.
