Whirlpool Autosparkle – 5 kg Fully Automatic machine is a competitor of Kenstar Tumble Top. Both are top loading machines with same loading capacity of 5 kg. All of the features are same except some like rat mesh, castors which one has the other doesn’t and vice versa.
Like every other washing machine Whirlpool has a superior wash quality with superior washing technology, which is close enough to be a replica of hand washing. I really appreciate the marketing, advertisement done by these companies to project how their product has all features, which others don’t have and how better it is compared to others. But if we have a little background knowledge of the product we are buying then we will come to know there isn’t much difference except few minor specifications.
Wash Quality
Type of wash system used is called Agitator which is gives the unique scrubbing action of hand wash. Kenstar has a Tumble top technology to give a good wash. In Whirlpool the rotation of the drum is around the axis Perpendicular to the horizontal while in Kenstar it’s tumbling with the axis of rotation parallel to horizontal. That’s one difference in Whirlpool. There are 4 wash programs compared to 3 of Kenstar TT including for Heavy Cotton (Denim, Curtains), Normal Cotton (Shirt, Trousers), Polyester type soft soiled fabric, Woolen (Also baby clothes) and a Speedy wash. Four programs are designed to match your requirement of different wash for different clothes. Time required for each program accordingly differs from heavily soiled cotton to delicate fabric like woolen. Heavy cotton takes maximum time and water. One disadvantage of the machine is that there is no heater included. Heavily soiled materials are seldom washed because of various reasons. A hot water gives a better cleaning result; also it gives a bacterium free wash. More electricity is consumed but you get fantastic clean wash.
Rat Mesh
Rat mesh keeps the machine from rodent hazard. This feature you won’t find in many machines. Whirlpool has one. Rats, mice could be found easily anywhere on earth where there is source of food and garbage. Even if you take all measures in the world to keep away rodents you can’t be so sure of not getting one in your house. They are always one step ahead of you. Favorite hide out places for the creature are one with lot of junk, garbage and trash. They also like congested, lowly lit areas. No wonder if they choose a washing machine to be their next house. In fact a Whirlpool washing machine would be a mansion for them. Thus a rat mesh is important to prevent these unwanted guests from intruding your dependable machine.
Water Consumption
Water consumption can be from 60 liters for normal daily wash to above hundred for heavy clothes wash. Washing machines always take more water compared to hand wash. In critical situations of fewer water supplies it would be inappropriate to use washing machine. So have a separate water tank fixed in for extra storage of water. The automatic washing machine also requires full force of water for the inlet. Slow intake could increase the wash time and the quality. Machine-washes all clothes in one go. So put in all clothes, adjust the program knob to the suitable program, have the water tab fully opened and just sit back and relax.
Other
Weight of the machine is mere 38 kgs compared to 68 kgs of Tumble Top. The size of the machine is greater than Tumble Top but the wait is amazingly less. No casters are provided for the machine. This is very inconvenient in view of space management. May be they didn’t have one because of the less weight. Anyway it is very useful to have wheels. In case of power failure you can always remove clothes and reset the program or wait till the power comes and leave it to the machine to complete the program by itself.
Noise and vibrations are average with this machine. Certainly not like Front-loading machine and Kenstar Tumble Top. Cabinet is made of steel. A bleach inlet is provided for bleaching. Wash/Spin bucket is made up of hard plastic. In Kenstar it is a porous steel drum (may be that explains drastic difference in the weight). I would say at 14000 Rs. Whirlpool is a great buy and value for your money.
