So I am here with my latest review on Whirlpool Washing Machine WhiteMagic 1-2-3 650h.
Decision
When I decided to purchase washing machine, there were three decisions I start with:
I decided to go for two companies- IFB and Whirlpool. IFB- because it is among the best in the category; Whirlpool- because I have reliability over this brand.
The capacity- 6.5kgs.
Type of washing machine: Top loading fully automatic. The only reason I didn’t chose front loading is because of its high pricing.
I zeroed up on Whirlpool. There were four models in 6.5kgs- 650p, 650d, 650s and 650h. Finally I purchased 650h for Rs.16500/-.
After purchase
The machine was delivered to my home; the shop owner assured me that a Whirlpool person will come to my house for installation. Since I am technical person, I decided to start the machine. I read the manuals given in the machine and switch on the machine as per the instructions given in the manual. But I noticed that agitator is not moving. There is no option to stop the wash program in fully automatic washing machine once it is started. So the whole process completed without agitator moving. I tried two three times with the same result and thought that there may be some problem in machine. I read the manual again and again without any useful help.
Whirlpool technician came after two days for installation and demonstration. He revealed a new fact that there is a mechanical locking system in the agitator motor of the machine. That lock has to be removed before starting the machine for the first time. that lock has to be removed. He removed that lock and told that if I would have tried more number of times, the motor might got damaged. And this mechanical lock provided only in Whirlpool washing machines.
I was not expecting this from a big house like Whirlpool. If there is a lock, then it should be mentioned in the manual or dealer might have told me.
Features
The capacity of the washing machine is 6.5kgs.
It is fully automatic with only three steps to start washing. Step#1- Power On, Step#2- Select Program & Step#3- Start.
This model has inbuilt heater so it is easy to wash clothes with hot or warm water.
There is option of delay wash, auto restart (in case of power failure) like all other fully automatic machines.
There are 9 inbuilt wash programs as per the type and dirtiness of clothes.
There is option of choosing your own wash program.
Stainless steel wash tub.
There is ‘tub clean’ option for removing the muck.
There is ‘Aqua Save/ Water Reuse’ option so as to reuse the water for second round of wash load.
The machine comes with 2 years warranty.
Negatives
There is only one color available in this model- maroon.
The inlet and outlet pipe is very small. Either you need to place your machine near water tap or you need to attach an extension.
The connector provided for attaching the inlet pipe to the water tap works only on a particular size of taps. Two three types of connector should be provided.
The inlet water flow is very slow. If a wash process takes 30minutes, it will take another 45minutes just for filling water.
It looks like a vertical box with no beauty attached to it.
After sales service
Recently I am facing some problem with my machine. When I am dropping even a single cloth in the tub, the water level is judged as very high. I registered my complaint online. There is option of registering complaint over phone or online. They replied me back after 2 days that my complaint has been forwarded to concerned engineer in my area. The engineer came after three days. In nutshell, the complaint was attended after five days of registration (that may also be because of my remote location).
The engineer attended the problem and concluded that PCB needs to be replaced and he will inform it to the higher ups. But he begged me to sign on the complaint form, signifying that the complaint has been closed. I didn’t understand the logic that when my complaint was pending why he asked me to close it.
Advice
There are few advices I would like to give for those who are planning to purchase washing machine, as I don’t want others to repeat the mistakes I had done.
There is no need to choose high capacity machines. Even a machine of 5kgs would be sufficient for a family of four. In all case, you have the option dividing your wash load. There is no need to waste money by investing in capacity, instead invest in more and useful features.
It is better to prefer front loading washing machine. The major reason is the care and longevity of your clothes. Top loading washing machines wash clothes using agitators, where as front-loading machines use agitation and gravitational action (less resulting action on clothes).
I have done market research and concluded that IFB is among the best washing machine in India. This is solely my personal view.
There is no need to go for machines with inbuilt heater, if you have water heater in your home. It will cause 2 problems. Firstly, you have to provide 15A socket (unlike 6A used normally) for powering the machine; secondly, additional time will be taken for water heating by inbuilt heater.
Conclusion
I am using this machine for last six months without any problem (except one that I mentioned above). The operation is very easy and can even be operated by small children. The machine automatically judges the water level and detergent level (in units of “cup” provided with the machine).
If the capacity is your main concern and top loading is ok with you, this machine is for you.
