REVIEW ON THE WAR OF THE WORLDS MOVIE
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was a very good fan of the veteran director Steven Spielberg and so went to see the film, first day first show, today at 12. I was having so many expectations of the film, and with Tom Cruise in the lead role; I believed we would be in for a treat.
I have to say the film was way beyond the word disappointing. It was actually panic, in and out of the screen. From the director of ET, and Jurassic park, such a blunder of a movie as this was well beyond what I could digest. I have to say that this film I actually the Jurassic park, ET, Independence Day etc put together and I will explain why.
The cast
Starring: Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman, Dakota fanning, Miranda Otto, Justin Chatwin
Director: Steven Speilberg
The story:
Tom Cruise is a dad with two children: a girl and a boy. He is asked to take care of them and then all goes wrong and its panic time. There comes this huge storm (Watch independence day) and the lightning strikes only one place. Then the place starts shaking and the aliens come out in these huge machines. (They say that the aliens came in the lightning). They are heard as if the dinosaurs are coming in the Jurassic park
Now they start wrecking the whole place up and our hero starts running. Everyone else gets destroyed and the aliens suck the blood out of them and then Cruise finally saves the day by exploding a bomb in the inside of the alien machine. This destroys the force shield (Watch independence day). Now these guys attack one machine and saves the day. Everybody is happy and goes home. Tada?.
Hello, Mr. Spielberg? But there were thousands of those machines out there.
It is shown that there are many machines and they come and fight in groups and all. Theses people are running from a group of machines and are unable to destroy it cause of their force shield? Suddenly Tom Cruise breaks the force shield of one of the machines and they attack and destroy it. Just one. It is not shown as to what happens to all the other machines.
The climax appears to have been copied from the Independence Day where they destroy the mother ship breaking the force shield of all the other ships. This is good, cause they know how to destroy the rest. Here, it is not the case. They just destroyed on by chance and mention nothing of all the others.
There is utter panic everywhere, and the scenes are like that of the day after tomorrow where the people migrate in large numbers. O.k.! Just a co-incidence.
The scenes appear to have be dragged long.
There are some good parts in the film. But the majority part of the film appears to have been dragged a bit too much. We got the feeling that it was for most part an art or an award film.
The acting
Tom Cruise does a good job. But then the girl who plays the role of the kid has been given a role she can?t do anything with. All she has to do is scream, from the very beginning of the film, and it gets to epic proportions towards the end.
The Good side:
There are some positive sides also for the film. It has a decent camera job and good special effects. The aliens are also good, but the face looks a bit too familiar from the 10-part show directed by Speilberg that was aired on star movies last year.
Not my opinion only
This is not entirely my opinion only. Many went for the film with us. We were a group of eight people, four boys and four girls; and none of us liked the film. If are still not sure, just checkout the ratings assigned at the yahoo movies. The film has got only a B rating and the reviews tell the tale very clearly.
My opinion
Please dont go for the film expecting good entertainment form the veteran director. Do go if only you have nothing to do otherwise o in some situation like that.
Before rating the review
I saw the film today. If you think I that I went a little overboard in criticizing th film, then go and see for yourself and you will understand what I mean.
