Its bijoya dashami today.I wish everyone shubho bijoya.Being done with the greetings lets get to business.Victor Banerjee is a very special actor. One hears that he owns an art gallery and spends the better part of the year in contemplation in the Garhwal mountains.Despite this, he is highly respected for his almost western manners, his good looks and his ability to speak many languages.Consider this.He started his acting career in Satyajit Ray's only hindi/urdu film 'Shatranj Ke Khiladi' where he spoke perfect urdu. For a man who has lived in Calcutta all his life this is a little difficult.
This film bought Banerjee international recognition and he went on to play Dr Aziz in David Lean's film based on E.M.Forster's 'A passage to India'.Now how many indian actors have participated in international projects?Mr Banerjee was also part of Shyam Benegal's take on the Mahabharat titled 'Kalyug'.You see him off and on in prestigious projects in Bollywood.Other than that he has done a lot of commercial bengali potboilers. But the polished Victor Banerjee who speaks bengali with an anglicized accent looked rather out of place in those crude films.Indeed, whenever he does a tastefully made movie Mr Banerjee is simply the best.I cannot understand why his directors cannot make more films with him.
