A movie directed by Shoojit Sircar, produced by John Abraham, that compels you to think and dwell on this innovative method of overcoming the problems due to infertility. The boldness of the idea, as brought out even at the level of script, without resorting to vulgarity, was well enacted by all the actors who did full justice to their respective roles. The contrast between the loudness of Punjabis, subsumed by sophisticated subtlety of Bengalis is brought out with such subtlety in all the richness of the Punjabi language tempered with dialogues in Bangla. The mature performances by Ayushman Khurrana (Vicky), Ms.Dolly Ahluwalia, Ms. Kamlesh Gill, Annu Kapoor, Yami Gautam, Jayanta Das were superb. The idiom of the youthful Punjabi lad from Delhi, bubbling with energy and enterprise found it's expression in this innovative concept of introducing the idea of sperm donation to overcome the inability of infertile males to bear children with their fertile partners. The honesty of the main male protagonist, Vicky showed strength of character in admitting the truth about sperm donation.
The trap of appearing a sperm donation advocacy film was well avoided with Vicky resisting Chaddaji's several proposals to donate sperm with all the monetary enticements and rewards. Vicky's initiation into this remunerative activity is, as expected, hard to accept among his girlfriends, as would be obvious in a society that is conditioned with social mores. The writer eschews judgement, and allows the story to play itself out in the most natural circumstances, that are entirely plausible. The character of a middle aged, yet enthusiastic Chadda ji reigning in Vicky and taking him through a roller coaster experience of his life, until it almost breaks the latter's relationship with his spouse. As an honourable, clear headed person, Chadda ji brings back Vicky''s faltering relationship with his spouse and in a show of innate virtues of the indefatigable human spirit, with Vicky's father-in-law facing upto his son-in-law's reality stoically, shedding the bigotry he had initially.
Thus the film plot, it's treatment and execution was very good, leaving the audience entertained and emotionally stirred.
