....and it takes 6 such games to win a set...and 2 such sets to win a women's singles tennis match. You don't need any rallies, any drop shot, any gentle lob to win a tennis match if you are Venus Williams..all you need is power and unfortunately if you that much power, you can do without a lot of talent either.
In my opinion Venus Williams is bad for the game of tennis as a whole and for women's tennis in particular. Men's tennis has long ago moved towards a power game and the French open has become a test of endurance and stamina more than anything else..but thats a different story altogether. Now women's tennis has also become power oriented.
I feel that Venus Williams is a player who relies more on strength than tennis talent to win matches. I believe she is talented but I think that her strength and her physique is so overwhelming that a player with more talent but less skill would lose to her. A few years ago when Venus was not at her peak, the women's game was so exciting with the presence of fabulous players like Graf,Hingis,Davenport etc. Now its really a family affair with most grand slam finals being fought out between Venus and her sister,Serena. Serena also has a power-oriented play but she is more talented than Venus which just about ensures that I feel she belongs there and is good for the game.
All in all, Venus Williams is a good tennis player but not good for the game. Any hopes of an early retirement and a return to the good old days of women's tennis ?
