It is 1/2 miles from Kanchipuram Railway Station. The Vaikuntha Perumal Temple is the oldest of the temples in Kanchipuram .

It's a temple of Lord Vishnu. It is also known as Thiru Parameswara Vinnn agaram. Created by Nandivarman Vaikunta Perumal temple in 8th century, i.e. 1200 hundred years ago. The top floor has Lord Vishnu in a standing position and is usually inaccessible to devotees.

As we enter into the temple complex, we find the dhwajasthamba in front, which shines like gold. There is a a columned mantapa which leads to the inner sections. There are several inscriptions on the wall of the temple related to the wars between the Pallavas and chalukyas.
