Vagator Beach is a picturesque beach located in North Goa.This beach is famous for its tranquility and natural scenery. Vagator beach may be reached by bus from Mapusa Bus Stand. The fare is 6 Rs. The bus does not drop you on the beach but on the road leading to Vagator beach. From there its about 1.5 km walk to the beach. Hence if you are traveling with a senior citizen or someone with a walking disability I would advise you to take a taxi from Mapusa rather than travel by bus.
The 1.5 km walk to the beach is enjoyable as there is lot of greenery alongside the road. As I trode on the path, a mongoose crossed the road ahead of me. Finally when you reach the beach area you shall find stalls selling T shirts , cold drinks etc. The beach is divided into two parts by a small hill and to reach the beach you have to climb down from the hill.
If you get down from the right side of the hill you shall reach a small beach called the Ozran beach. This beach is mainly frequented by the Indian tourists. Chapora fort overlooks the Ozran beach. The scene of Dil Chahta Hai where three friends sit together and talk was shot here. There is a series of concrete steps leading down the hill if you want to reach the Ozran beach.
If you face the sea while standing on the hill on your left side shall lie the little Vagator. You may reach the Little Vagator by using the concrete steps or even by using a small path that goes downhill. I used the path that goes downhill because it is much more exciting to climb down using this path. As you climb down the hill a narrow path leads to the main beach.
The natural beauty of Vagator is stunning. The atmosphere of Vagator is that of a lost world. The beach surrounded all around by hills gives it a look different from any other Goan beach. There are beach shacks at Vagator Beach. There are a few rocks dividing little Vagator and big Vagator. By crossing the rocks you can reach the Big Vagator.
Do not attempt to swim at this beach if you havent swam before. The beach is rocky and large rocks jut out into the sea. If you decide to get adventurous and jump into the ocean chances are that you might have to spend the rest of your vacation in hospital bed.
Due to the natural beauty of this beach many films have been shot here. Even when I visited this beach , some South Indian film was being shot here. There are some anti social elements who play teen patti,a card game on this beach. Please do not show the slightest interest in the game even out of curiosity else you might lose all your money.
Accommodation facilities are available at Vagator Beach. However there are not many standard eating houses or restaurants in this area. Live in Vagator area if you want to enjoy rustic charm of village life far from the tourist humdrum.
The distance between Anjuna beach and Vagator beach is around 2 kms. Visit Vagator beach first and from there take a motorcycle taxi to Anjuna. You can visit both within the same day.The motorcycle taxi shall charge you Rs 20 to 25.
Do not forget to carry your camera to Vagator Beach else you shall regret it. I recommend you to visit the Vagator beach just to enjoy the charm of the place.
Highly Recommended.
