Browse through my Dashboard and you will notice that I have already reviewed "A wednesday", hence this review of mine may make many wonder "Why does he bother writing a review for a Remake movie" especially when
He has already reviewed the original
he has been absent from MS for such a long time
when he really thrashed Dasavatharam( a kamal hassan movie)
Yeah, you guys will keep wondering, and wonder struck you will be once you watch the Tamil Version of the amazing movie that Neeraj Pandey gave us. So obviously there are reasons why the Tamil installment of the movie clicks and the reasons are simply
It is a Kamal Hassan movie, a proper one this time( I continue to be of the opinion that Dasavatharam was crap=) ). How can an actor act so beautifully, the emotions, the facial expressions, the body language, the dialogue delivery. Iam proud to have been born in the same country where, arguably the BEST actor in the world was born( others may have their Opinion please). Kamal once again takes the theater goer away from his/her seat into the screen and into the movie itself. As expected( I saw the hindi version first) the final dialogue spar between Kamal and Mohanlal(brilliant as usual, a space is dedicated for him too) towards the end of the movie turned out to be a stunner, where Kamal actually makes you imagine what he wishes to convey through his dialogue rather than you just seeing Kamal speak the dialogues. I couldnt take my eyes of the screen
Dialogues- Neeraj pandey has to be credited to a great extent for the stinkers that his dialogues were that made the common indian man feel empowered(dont really know if that actually happened or will happen). Kamal Hassan and ER Murugan enrich these stinkers and add some curry to the dialogues. There is one dialogue where kamal talks about him being ambidextrous like Mahatma gandhi he also says " Ambidexterity is only when it comes to writing, I dont use it for other things:) " Such dialogues help simmer, the otherwise highly intensive, dialogues. Pity is, such dialogues can be listened to only if we are really involved and concentrate on the movie.
Cinematography- Has been aptly modified to represent Namma Singara Chennai.
Story, screenplay et all- Much has been described at length and depth about the marvelous plot and script that Neeraj Pandy had sculpted. Please read my review on "A Wednesday"( not advertising here=)
There were few more things that are worth mentioning
Mohanlal is actually shown as a commissioner with origins in kerala. His charecter is not made to speak clean tamil. Things are bit more natural that way
The real Tamil Nadu CM's voice is used(at least a resembling voice)
A four wheeler replaces the bench towards the end of the movie. Terrorists made to sit in a vechicle seem more natural and logical than being seated on a bench in an airstrip
Coimbatore Bomb blast is used as the reference point by the terrorists as against the mumbai bom blast
Mohanlal as the second most important(and prominent) character of the movie is as good as Kamal in the acting department. He truly shows that acting is beyond languages and type of characters. I salute this amazing actor from our neighboring state.
I do admit that a separate review for the Tamil version may not be really required, but the movie made me write the review rather than my brain(or what you call heart).
Watch this edition of A wednesday to know( and re-assure) the amazing actor that Kamal Hassan is.
Cheers
