Dear friends,
I read all the reviews about the university of kerala. all deals the story of it some thirty years ago. I studied my pre university and BSc degree in Thiruvananthapuram under this university. I have many friends there in the university as research students and staff. The university is the first of its kind in kerala started by travancore king in Thiruvananthapuram city and it has now two campuses within the city and about 45 affiliated colleges.
The administration department of the university is better than all other universities in kerala. They are efficient and the examination department's work is excellent. The university has a very good tradition and history. These are only one side of the coin.
But the other side of the coin is not shining as in the above case. Although there are good affiliated colleges showing academic excellence, the University Departments for almost all subjects are academically stagnant. The UGC support to these departments is less and there is hardly any research activities going on. It is the worst university in kerala when Post Graduate research matters.
The PG courses under these university departments in credit and semester system, lacks subject content and these students repeatedly fails to qualify for the UGC LS and JRF examinations, while other university students in kerala like Cochin University and Mahathma Gandhi University proves they are the right candidates.
Politics and caste plays a major role in these academic demolition. The quality of the teaching faculty of the university departments at Palayam and Kaaryavattom are very poor. The syllabus of the MSc courses are outdated and the future of the students are really in jeopardy.
Kindly don't opt to join in this university's courses at its campuses.
Thanks.
