“Eyes are windows to your heart, tears are proof that you have one.”           -unknown

Mr. Philosopher Speaks: - People often say that laughter is the best medicine, I agree. But, my point of view is that the way to your heart goes through your eyes. With tears all the sorrows, all the agony, every bit of pain, flows out. So, when in tension, depression or any sort of painfulness…crying is one of the best alternatives. Another option is, to share and open up your heart to a dearest one, BUT what to do if nobody is there who understands you? with whom you can share up things? According to me, then you can have the company of SONGS… Well, you might not believe the strength of music. So, just try this method once…and then you’ll definitely bow to the eternal power of melody…!

So, here is the list:

GUZRA ZAMANAA!

1. Kahin Door Jab Din Dhal Jaaye(Anand)

This soulful song was sung by the legendry Mukesh. His voice has filled tonnes and tonnes of pain in the song. Whenever I listen to this song, my heart feels a sort of hush! or something which cannot be expressed in words.

2. Pardesiyon Se Na Akhiyan Milana(Jab Jab Phool Khile)

Mohammad Rafi, it was the power of his majestic voice besides the divine compostion and great lyrics that made this song an UNFORGETTABLE one. Picturised on Shashi Kapoor, in the scenic and majestic Kashmir. So, Just forget everything else, & enjoy this lovely song.

3. Hothon Se Chhoo lo tum(Prem Geet)

One of the best songs of Jagjit Singh. This very touchy song was filmed on Raj-Babbar, where he sings for his wife. This song speaks of the divine relationship between two loving souls. It renders its message in a way that you can relate to it very easily(Let me warn you that my words sound simple, but TRY YOURSELF!) i.e. you feel as if it is your life, your story depicted in the song.

4. Neela Aasman So Gaya(Silsila)

Sung by Amitabh Bachchan, created by Shiv-Hari. Well, when I heard this song for the first time, I didn’t like it at all; but gradually this song entered the list of my precious song-gems . Its another version is sung by Lata Mangeshkar. Picturised on Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha, this song is dam’n romantic.

5. Dekh Lo Aaj Humko Ji Bhar Ke(Bazaar)

This masterpiece has been sung by Jagjit Singh and Asha Bhonsle(ummm….am I right?). Picturised on Supriya Pathak and Farukh Shekh, this song portrays the heart of two lovers who are departing each other. So, just enjoy this jewel and feel that feeling of nothingness!

6. Zindagi Ke Safar Mein(Aap Ki Kasam)

I am not exactly sure about the movie from which this song has been taken…but does that really matter at all, if you are enjoying this ‘magnum opus’. Sung by the legend Kishor Kumar, and picturised on Rajesh Khanna, this magical number is a marvel. Kishor Da was at his best while singing such tragic numbers.

7. Rahen Na Rahen Hum(Mamta)

Composed by Roshan and sung by Lata Mangeshkar, this song is sweet’n simple, melody at its best. You can often find only this song in my playlist, I can listen to this song endlessly upto ‘I don’t know’, how many times.

8. Sagar Kinare Dil Yeh Pukare(Sagar)

Lovely sea-shore, the sun, the waves, the breeze, the rocks; and surrounded by them all, Dimple Kapadia and Kamaal Hassan, singing(lip-syncing) this lovely duet, which has been actually sung by Kishor Da and Lata Mangeshkar.

9. Dil Ke Armaan Aasoon Mein Beh Gaye(Nikaah)

Sung by Salma Aagah, this song is really a ‘different’ one. Salma has a very painful voice, she has played the role of a betrayed wife in this movie. A very moving & touchy number, personally, no matter in how much jolly mood I am in, but this song saddens me.

10. Badi Sooni Sooni Hai(Milli)

Painful Voice of Kishor da, sensitive performance by Amitabh Bachchan; this song has fought with many brilliant sings(especially those of Rafi saab and Kishor Da) to bag this place . This extremely delicate number can move anybody to tears or atleast can enter very easily to anybody’s heart(or even soul).

APNA ZAMANAA!

1. Chitthi Na Koi Sandesh(Dushman)

This all time classic by Jagjit Singh is capable of softening up any tough heart. Picturised on Kajol, this song portrays the pain, the grief of a sister who has lost her twin-sister. This song melts me, every time I listen to it.

2. Tanhaai(Dil Chahta Hai)

This song depicts the agony of a person, who is alone(tanha), without love and friendship. This beautiful and soulful song makes you forget everything around you(Ha! If you don’t believe me, try listening to this song with your eyes closed…)

3. Paani Paani Re(Maachis)

A cut-above-the-rest, brilliantly picturized on Tabu, this song is as charismatic as the morning breeze. Keep everything aside and just take a dip in this song, and feel the magic!

4. Jaane Wafa Hoke Bekarar(Kuch Kuch Hota Hai)

This song was the sad version of the title track Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. It comes in the movie at a situation, where it can make any heart cry.

5. Ek Saathi Aur Bhi Tha(LOC)

Though the movie could not do well at the box-office, but this song is really a soul-stirrer. Its very soothing melodious music especially in the ‘antras’ and that too loaded with Sonu Nigam’s miraculous voice creates an unmatched impact.

6. Tum Bin Jiya Jaye Kaise(Tum Bin)

With very innovative lyrics, melodious music and soulful singing by Chitra, this song has become ‘one-of-its-own-kind’. It was picturised on Sandali Sinha. Another great song from the same movie is, Koi Fariyad by none other than Jagjit Singh.

7. Zindagi Is Tarah Se Lagne Lagi(Murder)

This song is a real breath-taker, depicting the pain, the woe of a betrayed husband and a repenting wife. It is in 2 versions, the other one is sung by Anuradha Paudwal. I like very few songs of Anu Malik and this one comes in that category.

8. Tere Naam(Tere Naam)

This melodious miracle ruled the charts in 2003, but it is still ruling the hearts of many. This song portraits the tragedy of a lover(as in most of the tragic songs!), it narrates the sacrifice which you have to bestow in love.

9. Pal(Pal – KK)

Very soft, very touchy…this song is my personal all-time favourite. Though, it is from a pop album; but when you listen to this song, you just dissolve in its divine theme and melody.

10. Tadap Tadap Ke(Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam)

Well, here comes another charming melody, which can even make you shed loads of tears, if you can just feel its strength. This song too portrays the woe of a lover(Salman Khan in this case!),  who has to leave his beloved(Aishwarya Rai, here!), because his music teacher(Aishwarya’s dad), orders(the Guru-dakshina) him to do so.

That's it, friends!
