Happy Independence Day!

Months after I requested for this channel to be included, my prayers have come true and I finally get to write on my favourite channel: The discovery travel and living.

For all those who might be wondering what the big deal is all about, the channel is a part of the discovery network, and is for all those who love non-fiction, scientific and travel programs, but are not interested to get in the world of animals. You wouldn’t believe the quality of programs on this channel. It’s a channel for the whole family.

Now the channel is for the average Joe… who sits at his home… hasn’t done much traveling (O.k.! what if you have… there are other places to see)… and spends a good amount of his leisure in front of the television… sounds like me alright.

Now, all the macho guys out there would be saying... Oh! It’s for the sissies... Wrong buddy… There are macho programs for you too. Take for example “American Choppers” and “The great biker build off”…

American Choppers is a bike show… oops… it’s not a bike… and it’s an American cruiser… the chopper. The show is all about the Orange county choppers, and there race against time in building cruisers like no other. The good thing is that the cruisers are build right of from the frame and so even the average Joe can understand how to build a bike on his own. The bad side of things is that… well!... there is no bad side… but to mention one.. it kind of gets repetitive… you know… all the bikes are build the same way…except for its looks.

The Great biker build off takes chopper building to an altogether different level. You have two guys… two teams… racing against the clock and against each other to build a bike of their own… to be presented at any one of the bike shows held. The bikes are presented to the public and they vote the winner of the build off… Hey! Why cant us viewers be given a chance also?

A Para in memory of my favourite builder Indian Larry who died of injuries during a build off.

O.k.! if bikes are not your style… lets get on with cars … and good ones…

The ultimate super car thrasher is at your service with Jeremy Clarkson’s Motorworld . He travels around the globe looking for the people and the cars they drive. You get a drive (not a drive, I should have said, see a drive) in a Ferrari or a Lamborghini or any of the sorts. Its really cool.

Even cars can get you excited. What are you? Human? O.k.! Don’t think the channel is not for you. Lets bring on the amazing houses shows.

Now these are reality shows. To top the lot there is the “ Monster house show” . Imagine a team of builders barging into your house, making you live in a van, and then modifying your house, your very own house, into anything they like. FOR FREE. That’s Monster house. But wait, there is this small problem, a time limit, they have to build within the weekend or go unpaid. Guys at discovery channel, I want my house modified too. For free.

Then, if that’s not enough for you, bring on the Amazing Vacation homes . These focus on the vacation homes of the rich, the super rich, the Richie rich. Boy! I wish I were in one of the luxury houses.

O.k.! Now its time to mention the programs for the rest of the family. What better than traveling programs?

The best of the lot is the Travelers . 4 people travel round the globe, with their video cameras. I used to follow this show from years back, when it was shown on the Discovery channel. It’s the same as it was years before. Like Altrasonic put in his review… “Hello world, I’ve been waiting for a chance to see it all”

And then you have The globe trekker . With the adventures of Ian Wright. I have to say this guy has got some balls. Traveling up the mountains on a bicycle, and experiencing traveling the real ay, enjoying the rural areas as well as the urban, he makes me wanna be a traveler to.

Ladies! There are a host of cooking programs for you too. But I cant say much on that cause I am not much of an enthusiastic viewer of such programs. But I Know the names like Madhur Jaffrey’s Tastes of India, Cooking for love and … well… I told you na.

Now! I am sure you must be getting bored. I could just go on talking of my favourite channel. But I am not ruining your independence day.

So what are you waiting for? Watch!

Jai Hind!
