Mughals have built some really elaborate structures, sadly some of them happen to be tombs. This is one such brilliant structure around 10 km from Agra, a 15 min taxi ride is good enough to get you to this place. This does not feature much on visitor's list of must visit places, maybe because of the distance from the city center, notwithstanding the lack of interest this happens to be one of the best standing structures of the era, (older than the Taj)
The fort is the tomb of emperor Akbar, it is said that he started building it when he was alive but couldn't complete it before he died. Keeping with his secular credentials, he wanted to create a more eclectic architectural style combining persian, rajasthani and various other Indian styles and it does reflect some mixture of styles. There is also a char bagh style garden at this place with a very relaxing atmosphere.
The entry fees is just Rs 10, and you can visit this place any time during the day. The best time to visit is in the sunset hours if you love photography. Children are allowed free.
There are wild monkeys around this place, please do not feed them, they'll keep troubling you till you leave the place. I was sad to many'love you' scribbles on some of the walls in garden. Apart from that, this looks to be quite a safe place for tourists.
A visit to this place is worth it, include this in your itinerary, if you planning a 2-3 day visit to Agra. My rating 4/5
