Very rarely do you come across an album that features so many good krithis. Magnasound came up with this great concept of bringing together 2 generations of musicians for a set of albums called ''Together Series''.
This is part of that collection. Featuring Dr. N Ramani and R Thyagarajan, this album has 10 items. Opening with a Hamsadwani based ''Vinayaka'', the album also has :
Janani (Reethigowla) : One of my favourite ragas for its pleading quality
Shri Shankara (Nagaswaravali) : A rare raga
Akhilandeshwari (Dwijayanthi)
This is followed by the perennial favourites ''Krishna Nee Begane'' (Yaman Kalyani) and ''Nagumomu'' (Abheri). These are played with a finesse that would send any rasika into raptures. Manavyla (Nalanikanthi), Chuttum Vizhi (Ragamalika), Vigneshwara (Sindhu Bhairavi) and a Thillana conclude the album.
The other musicians providing adequate support on this album are Mysore Nagaraj on the violin, K Bhaktavatsalam on the mrudangam and Subramaniam E M on the ghatam.
Dr. N Ramani, a disciple of the famous Mali ( T R Mahalingam), is a top - notch flautist and known for the purity of Sruti. Having played in Public from the age of 8, he has trained his son Thyagarajan to continue to embellish the family name.
A good one to add to your Carnatic collection at Rs. 200.
