Hello All !
This is going to be about my recent trip to Trichy (Tamil Nadu). Lot of places like Chennai (for its beaches), Ooty (for flower shows etc.), Kodaikannal (natural beauty), Tanjore (for the largest Brahadeeswar temple & its great paintings) etc. are some of the most popular tourist attractions in Tamil Nadu. But after my recent visit, I feel that Trichy is also a must-see for the travelers !
INTRO:-
Let me not go deeply into the histories of Tiruchirappalli (popularly known as “Trichy”) being situated on the banks of river Cauvery & that it was ruled by the Pallavas etc. But to state at this juncture that Trichy is the 4th largest city in Tamil Nadu would be worth a mention !
A FEW INTERESTING PLACES:-
“Rock Fort”
The very word ‘Trichy’ brings into our minds its most popular landmark the ‘Rock Fort’. You can find a beautiful temple of Lord Vinayaka situated on the top of fantastic rocky tombstone. After you climb half the rock-strewn stairs, you could catch sight of a wonderful scenic beauty of houses / buildings amidst moving clouds with mountains at the back. Up the flight of steps, you also get a wonderful view of the famous Sree Ranganathar Temple, which is yet another landmark of the city.
“Sree Ranganathar Temple”
The Sree Ranganathar Temple is basically a temple for Sree Ranganathar (Lord Balaji) & the Lord is in Ananthasayanam (sleeping posture). The Goddess here is ‘Ranga Naayaki’. This temple is most prevalently known as “Bhoologa Vaikundam”. There is yet another interesting feature of this temple, which is the Vimaanam (Gopuram) known as the ‘Raja Gopuram’. When we visited the temple, we were informed that it took more than 7 ½ years to construct this huge Gopuram (this is the biggest Gopuram in Asia)! If I rightly remember, the height of this Gopuram is nothing less than 235 Feet. This temple has around 21 such Gopurams & the most cultural & traditional way it has been constructed is really amazing !! Please don’t miss it.
“Jambukeshwara Temple”
This is situated about 8 Kms away from the city of Trichy. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and has 7 Gopurams. The specialty of this temple is that the main God Shiva is partially submerged in water. This is one of the ancient & traditional temples of Tamil Nadu and even in these modern days, still Non-Hindus are not being allowed inside the temple premises !
OTHER SPECIALS:-
Apart from the aforesaid famous temples, Trichy contains many beautiful Churches and a lot of Scenic spots. Also, the city has big shopping spots that encompass clay toys, wooden / clay bangles, handloom clothing, copper / white gold jewellery made of stunning artificial diamonds and a lot more !
HOTELS:-
Trichy has some of the best places to dine which include pure vegetarian South-Indian restaurants as well as North-Indian & Chettinadu Specials.
STAY:-
Although details of decent / category-wise places of stay at Trichy could be taken from websites, some of the economical standard hotels are Hotel Ajanta, Hotel Abirami, Hotel Anand etc.
