History: There have been many instances in the past which show two sides of a coin. There are many examples when a few women were given the highest level of respect due to their works of bravery or of social importance such as Mother Teresa for her hospitality, Rani Lakshmi Bai for her bravery, and a lot many. But there have been numerous incidents even in the past when women in our country had to suffer. This includes ill practices of polygamy, female foeticide, women working as sex slaves, domestic violence, etc. Even the religious book with highest importance in Hindu religion Bhagvad Gita, depicts brutality of men against women through Draupadi's Chir-haran.

So, this shows that disrespecting women is in our past and we follow our past with a lot of influence on our present and so a few men consider disrespecting women their birth right.

Women's Safety:

1- For women to be safe, the men need to be taught the importance and place of women in their lives.

2- So, there is a need of Self-realisation among men to respect the dignity of women.

3- One of the problems with our country's mentality is a woman's character is judged on the basis of the clothes she wears and man's character is judged on the number of women she has used for his pleasure.

4- Hence, this calls for the foremost need to change people's mindset and hence their mentality in order to protect women.

5- Now, on woman's behalf, they can be careful in a number of ways:

a. As a part of women security, our government has released toll free emergency numbers, which every woman should keep in her phone on speed-dial list.

b. With rising technology, there are many apps which provide women with live gps tracking of their location which can be accessed by their family members.

c. As seen in a few instances in Delhi, girls are trapped by taxi drivers, which can be prevented by a small precaution, before taking the taxi, a girl must click the taxi driver's photo with the photo of his taxi's number plate and send it to her family members. This can help in tracing the taxi in case of any emergency. d. There is also a need for women to learn self defence techniques which can help them react in the situations of emergency.

Conclusion:

India is a country with one of the highest sexual abuse rates. This is due to men's sexual desires which are most of the times unguided and lack of knowledge of consequences. It is many a times disturbing to see that even girls are sexually abused even in the age of 5 or sometimes even less which is really brutal and need to be punished for this intolerable offense. Strict laws need to be implemented to create a sense of fear among men with even a thought of such deeds. The women who had gone through all this must be supported by their close ones as they desperately need it. They need not to be blamed as women sometimes find themselves in helpless situations.
