WHAT IS THE SECRET OF THE TIE'S SURVIVAL AS THE SMARTEST OF MEN'S CLOTHING ACCESSORIES?
-if there is something that I find very attractive in a man(besides his gr8 sense of humour, height n shoes)it would have to b his tie.
-it adds a dash of color to a man's clothing.
- ever since colorfull clothing was banned for men by a decree attributed to Robespierre during the French Revoulution,
'From now on it is coat, pants n shirt-nothing too flashy, though we will give u a little leeway with ur neckwear'
-the tie is continously reinventing itself to keep up with times.the width of the tie, like the lenght of women's skirts keeps varying with the stock market index!
-all ties don't go with every personality;or for that matter with every shirt.some time n care is needed to choose a tie that goes with ur personality n with the shirt u plan to wear.striped ties r not worn with striped shirts.the latest is to wear a tie of the same color as the shirt.
-heres a glossory of neckties that every well-dressed man should kno:
1) FOURLARD:
named after its fabric, a traditional silk twill bearing a wood block print, the fourlard is at once formally elegant n comfortably versatile.its an essential element of a well dressed man's wardrobe.
2) REGIMENTAL STRIPES:
this is, of corse, the defintive statement of british style .authentic regimental stripings on a silk background r quit correct in virtually any formal/casual context.
3) CLUB:
the club tie is another british favourite offering an almost limitless variety of figures presented in hansomely squared settings.its versatility is unexcelled, a fact which accounts for its enduring popularity.
4) CHALLIS:
the rich texture of select british wool gives the finely ribbed necktie a character all its own.soft n distinctively patterned, challis performs admirably.
5) SHANTUNG:
the eastern chinese province of shantung has given a silk fabric of exceptional character-light weight n pleasantly nubby.the shantung nectie is especially suitable for warm weather dressing.
6).ANCIENT MADDER:
an exquisitely textured fabric, madder supports its tasteful coloration with unflaggin autority.the ancient madder necktie is perfectly compatible with the reatrained tones of winter dress.
7)MACCLESFIELD:
the weavers of macclesfield, a small town, make a woolen fabric of unsurpassed versatility.this is a crisply classic woven design necktie, thoroughly accomodating, wearable year-round.
-though there r believed to b dozens of knots, the most populat r the Four-in hand, the Windsor n the Half-windsor.
1)OUR-IN-HAND:
is the oldest n simplest if unsymmetrical knots.
The other two knots named after the Duke of Windsor, r symmetric knots.
2) WINDSOR:
is a thick knot that should b used only with thin silk or polyester ties.when the knot is completed, there should b a dimple, a hollow in the tie, just below the knot.this creates a fullness that ensures that the tie will hang correctly.the knot should b snug on the top the collar button.a tie that is tootight will creep up the collar not to mention reddenin ur face n causing breathing difficulties.
one that is too loose is a sign of carelessness.the tie should just reach up to the waist band of the trouser.the narrow end of the tie should never show below the broad end.
if u dont know how to knot a tie n feel embarresed to ask someone who does, dont worry.just type, neck tie knots on the web browser n u'll b astonished by the no. of internet sites that will teach u step by step. (got the info on the net)
CARE:
ties r the most perishable item in a man's wardrobe, n as such they should b cared for appropriately.
the proper care of ur neck tie actually begins when u take them off ur neck.
>untie the knot first, usually reversing the steps u used when dressed in the mornin-to alleviate light creases
>for severe creases, put the two ends of the tie together n roll the tie around ur finger like a belt.slip it off ur fingers n leave it rolled up overnight.
>woven silk tie:hang it in ur closet.knitted or crocheted ties should be laid flat or rolled up.
one ought not send a necktie out to b drycleaned -as this compresses the linin n dulls the luster of the silk.>never trap ur tieunder car seat belt
>hang ur silk tie in a warm, moist environment to allow creases to drop out.
with proper care, ur neckties can last almost forever .n if, uve chosen them with a proper eye toward proportion, theres no reason u cant ear them at least as long as that.
I SAY THAT:
some collect coins, some collect books.my dad collects ties.
-ive never come across a man who knows his ties as much as my dad does
-he washes them, dries them n also categorises his priced possesions as per color n material.
